The likeness of actor Harrison Ford is used in the Bethesda video game “Indiana Jones and The Great Circle”, set between the films “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “The Last Crusade”, available April 17, 2025 for PS5:

Lucasfilm was seemingly looking to expand the world of Indiana Jonesonto Disney+, similar to Star Wars, but Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny might have complicated that. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was the fifth and final chapter in the long-running film franchise, and it was highly publicized for being Harrison Ford's final time playing the title role. With Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy seemingly saying only Harrison Ford would play Indiana Jones, there doesn't seem like much growth for the franchise expansion. However, at one point in time, Lucasfilm apparently had a few ideas to expand the series, one that could have fleshed out the supporting characters in Indiana Jones's life.
During the latest episode of the popular movie podcast Blank Check with Griffin & David, co-host Griffin Newman reveals he previously auditioned for an Untitled Lucasfilm animated series that seemingly was an Indiana Jones-style show.

2024 was an incredible year for Xbox users, but it also marked a huge step forward for the brand as it relinquished its platform exclusivity. Microsoft decided to port some of Xbox’s first-party games to rival consoles such as PS5 and Nintendo Switch to secure the long-term health of the brand.

At this point in his career, there isn't any project Harrison Ford could star in that would detract from his legacy. He is Harrison Ford, the bounty hunter in space and charming adventurer with a whip. That being said, Ford can significantly weaken the legacy of some of his most beloved characters, like Indiana Jones. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destinyhasn't ruined the original trilogy any more than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull did, but it does mean that the final few years of Ford's career won't be as flawless as they could have been.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is a toothless effort from director James Mangold and makes it harder to appreciate the Indiana Jones series as a whole, a trend that is all too common in classic blockbuster franchises like Star Wars, Alien, and Terminator. Ford is right not to run away from the movie and tarnish it,...

Character actors are an interesting bunch. They are often key speaking roles in plotlines which aren't usually at the forefront of the story, yet their presence is unforgettable. Whether they fade out of the plot or are killed off as soon as their role in the story has expired, the characters they portray can often be so signature that it grants these performers a wealth of future roles of similar weight. In the case of Julian Glover, it's been a lifetime of being "That Guy" in many franchises.

It’s mid-July and I’m sitting in my living room, wondering what Ben Burtt, a man responsible for some of the most beloved cultural artifacts of the 20th century, will think of the decor. He appears on my screen calling from Locarno, where he’s just received a lifetime achievement award. I start by thanking him genuinely for his contributions to cinema, and something in that choice of words makes him blush.
Burtt was born in Jamestown, New York, in 1948. Like many of his contemporaries, he got his start in the industry working at Roger Corman’s New World Pictures, making sound effects on the trailer for Death Race 2000. From there his credits more or less read like a greatest-hits of American popular culture. In his roll as sound designer, Burtt is credited with creating Chewbacca’s roar, the lightsaber’s hum, and the crack of Indiana Jones’ whip.

The original Indiana Jones trilogy that ran from 1981 to 1989 is without a doubt one of the most entertaining, well-written and greatly-executed works of cinema ever. With its incredible set pieces, direction, iconic sequences and brilliant Harrison Ford performance, the original trilogy effectively told a story like no other. In 2008, a fourth Indiana Jones movie was finally made called Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull with Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas all involved once again. There was a lot of excitement around Indy's return even if the film itself didn't live up to expectations.
What some fans may not realize is that there were plans to continue the Indiana Jones series in the 1990s after Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989. The planned sequels would have looked to continue Indy's story after the events of The Last Crusade and possibly explore other periods of...

Not many actors have shown the ability to perfectly capture the essence of James Bond in the longstanding film franchise. Before Daniel Craig conquered the role, it was Sean Connery, who perfectly brought Bond to life in seven movies.

Yet, his first encounter with Bond’s creator, Ian Fleming, was far from a positive one. Fleming, a sophisticated former intelligence officer, had a very particular vision for his suave British spy. However, when he met the rugged and unrefined Connery, he was less than impressed.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has no shortage of fantastic set pieces, but surprisingly enough, it never bothers to use its most obvious one. Ever since Raiders of the Lost Ark first hit the box office, memorable action scenes and the Indiana Jones name have gone hand in hand. Even in the video game space, franchises like Tomb Raider and Uncharted have obviously been inspired by the ingenuity associated with Indiana Jones, and some of the most memorable action moments in those games owe some DNA to the series.
For the most part, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is eager to make the most of every setting, whether that's the rooftops of the Vatican or a frozen ship found in the unlikeliest of places. If any detail in The Great Circle seems like a potential Chekhov's gun, it's typically a safe bet that it will end up firing.

Mad Max is a very different franchise now than when it started in 1979; George Miller’s post-apocalyptic saga has evolved a lot over the years. The first Mad Max movie was a microbudget production pulled off on a wing and a prayer, while the most recent entry was a mega-budget blockbuster with the backing of a major studio. Mad Max is perhaps the most unlikely hit franchise in Hollywood history — it’s shamelessly weird and unrelentingly dark.
Over the course of its 45-year history, Mad Max has undergone plenty of changes. The scale has gotten bigger, the colors have gotten more vibrant, and the title character has been recast — and Mad Max is still going strong, at least creatively. These are the biggest evolutions in the Mad Max franchise.
Max Rockatansky Has Been Recast
In the original Mad Max trilogy, the titular role of Max Rockatansky was played by Mel Gibson.

The following contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew."
"Skeleton Crew" is a delight. While it's as far removed from "Andor" as "Star Wars" shows get, it still manages to deliver fun, whimsy, and frequently scary adventures in the galaxy far, far away, week after week. "Skeleton Crew" also combines the world-building and iconography of "Star Wars" with the swashbuckling fun and dangers of titles like "Treasure Island," "Indiana Jones," "Peter Pan," and "The Goonies."
Though it may be an all-ages show starring kids, there are plenty of terrifying moments to be found in "Skeleton Crew." After all, the show's kids are up against bloodthirsty pirates more than willing to skin their enemies alive and boil their guts for the fun of it.
"Skeleton Crew" doesn't need lightsabers and Jedi either, even if one of the main characters can use the Force. Still, Jude Law's...

In 1989, a film with a bonkers premise was released in theaters and became one of the highest-grossing films of the year. Look Who's Talking, by writer/director Amy Heckerling, helped launch John Travolta back to Hollywood stardom, but it was a project that almost didn't happen. Look Who's Talking is a romantic comedy with a basic plot: Mollie Jensen gets pregnant after she has an affair with one of her clients. On the day of Mikey's birth, Mollie jumps into a taxicab, and the driver, James, is mistaken for the baby's father. After a while, he becomes Mikey's father figure, babysitter, and Mollie's lover.
Sounds like a regular comedy, right? Well, it isn't. From the conception of the fetus, viewers listen to the precocious thoughts of the baby. No one else can hear the baby but the audience, who are treated to none other than Bruce Willis' voice as the baby.

The most controversial element of Indiana Jones and The Great Circle is actually one of its greatest strengths, even if players do not realize it at first. The decision to make the game first-person was met with skepticism on release, as many felt third-person is clearly better suited for the adventure genre. MachineGames is more experience in first-person development, but The Great Circle's gameplay isn't just a product of habit. Players may realize this controversy was not a problem after all, with the perspective fitting right into what The Great Circle desires to be.

The Indiana Jones franchise returned for one last huzzah in 2023, something that a decade ago would have seemed like the most unlikely movie sequel to ever be made. However, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny brought Harrison Ford back as the adventuring archaeologist for a final mission to track down an impossible artifact and discover powers beyond comprehension. Despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the movie failed to spark at the box office, and disappointed with many of its reviews.
For director James Mangold, the reaction to the movie was unfair, and he still believes that audiences just failed to appreciate the story being told, and had different expectations for the franchise. He told Deadline recently:

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s combat stands out for its visceral, hand-to-hand style. Each punch feels powerful, reminiscent of classic brawlers, while the whip adds a distinct element, allowing players to disarm opponents and clear space. This tactile approach recalls the melee mechanics of The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, where physicality is essential.
Improvised weaponry, which can range from musical instruments to tools, enhances gameplay by encouraging creativity and humor. This not only reflects Indy’s inventiveness but also adds a comedic element to combat, making encounters memorable and thematically appropriate.
The first-person perspective enhances exploration by immersing players in intricate locales such as Vatican City and ancient catacombs. This design creates a sense of immediacy, encouraging players to engage meaningfully with their surroundings.
Hitman-inspired stealth mechanics emphasize deliberate navigation over simple visibility cues. Players must time their movements carefully to avoid detection, encouraging a deliberate approach to exploration.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a classic Indiana Jones adventure, and that means that the story is a big part of the game. Taking place between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, The Great Circle puts Indy to the test against the rising Axis powers in another globe-trotting journey. It only stands to reason that everything ultimately comes down to a climactic final confrontation, and attempting to match the memorable showdowns of the films gives the game a lot to live up to.

If any blockbuster franchise should be easy to adapt into a good video game, it's Indiana Jones, but spinning the source material into a truly great game is a less enviable task. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle ends a long hiatus for the archaeologist's interactive adventures, re-appearing in a world where the Uncharted series has already redefined the genre. With the newest outing, developer MachineGames attempts to avoid retracing Nathan Drake's steps while wrangling a game into something that genuinely resembles the movies, an ambitious venture with an appropriate touch of daredevilry.
The game opens with a bit of fan service that more or less stakes out this claim, diligently recreating the set piece from the start of Raiders of the Lost Ark before pivoting into its own story. Situated between Raiders and The Last Crusade, The Great Circle is interested in the same subjects as the franchise's most memorable films.

Highlander 2: The Quickening is the only non-James Bond sequel of Sean Connery's career - and turned into the biggest critical and commercial mess of his career. Connery played Bond in seven movies, though his final appearance was in the "unofficial" outing Never Say Never Again. After hitting something of a fallow period during the early 1980s, Connery made a major comeback with The Untouchables and went on to front major hits like The Hunt for Red October and The Rock. Perhaps having felt confined by the 007 series, Connery largely avoided sequels for much of his career.
Highlander 2 proved the sole exception to this, with this 1991 sequel reuniting Connery's Ramírez with Christopher Lambert's MacLeod. His return was something of a surprise to fans of the original Highlander movie from 1986 - considering his head had been cut off by the movie's villain, The Kurgan (Clancy Brown). Since Connery...

In a recent interview, design director Jens Andersson—who, in a twist worthy of an Indy adventure itself, was originally hired to work on a different Indiana Jones game back in 2009 that never saw the light of day—revealed a refreshing philosophy about exploration and player freedom that might just change how we think about open-world game design.
And let’s just say, it’s not your typical “climb the tower to reveal the map” approach.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle premiered its launch trailer today, December 2, ahead of its release next week. The trailer is a three-minute deep dive into the story, characters, and locations. It features brief glimpses at the landmarks that'll feature prominently in the game: the Vatican, various ancient temples, and a murky swamp.
It's also the first time any trailer for The Great Circle has featured such an extensive look at gameplay. In the three-minute preview, Indy can be seen solving puzzles, swinging across chasms, and knocking over enemies with his signature whip. A small amount of the game's combat is also visible, with Indy engaging in battles both on foot and using a mounted gun on a moving boat. He can also briefly be seen fighting enemies in what appears to be hand-to-hand combat.

Each month, Xbox Game Pass subscribers look forward to discovering which new games will be added and which ones will be leaving the service. It can be disappointing when a favorite game is removed, but it’s usually an exciting time to discover new and enjoyable games to play. With the holiday season approaching, December is bringing a few new games to Xbox Game Pass, which is excellent for those who subscribe to the service.
Xbox Game Pass gives subscribers access to various games across different genres, including some cozy games. It frequently adds and takes away games from its lineup to keep things fresh. In the past year, it has started to include more new games on the same day they are released. While this doesn't always happen, when it does, it makes Game Pass an excellent choice for players who want to try the latest games alongside their friends.

While directors often get the brunt of credit, first assistant directors are arguably just as crucial in turning a vision into a reality. Many filmmakers and producers begin as assistant directors, while others are especially suited for that role, which combines the creativity of directing with the management of production. Adam Somner, who passed away this week on Nov. 27, 2024, was known as one of the best. He worked with Steven Spielberg, Paul Thomas Anderson, Martin Scorsese, Ridley Scott, Wes Anderson, and Alejandro G. Iñárritu, among others, and had an incredible filmography as a director and producer. He died of anaplastic thyroid cancer at the age of 59.
Spielberg referred to Somner as his "left arm," while Paul Thomas Anderson said in a tribute, "I would rank him in the Kobe Bryant, Mick Jagger, Winston Churchill category of Legends. And that would be under-selling it.” It's a testament to Somner's extensive career,...

All three editions of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and their bonuses have been revealed ahead of the game's launch. Scheduled for release on December 9, 2024, this will be the first major game in the Indiana Jones franchise since the social game Indiana Jones Adventure World in 2011. Already praised for its incredible immersion, this original Indiana Jones story is shaping up to be 2024's last major release - and the goodies bundled in with its special editions reflect its triple-a status.

Todd Howard always wanted to create an Indiana Jones game. In 2009, the prolific director of titles like Fallout 3 came close, pitching an Indiana Jones game to LucasArts, the video game subsidiary arm of Lucasfilm. However, the collaboration didn’t end up happening. At the time, Howard and the developers at Bethesda Game Studios were riding high on the critical and commercial successes of 2002’s The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and 2006’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, but even so, Indy remained out of reach for the team.

It begins with Jaws. Of course it begins with Jaws. Has any composer in history utilised two simple notes — an alternating pattern between E and F — so effectively? So iconically? It feels obvious to begin a documentary entitled Music By John Williams with perhaps his most famous work, but it also feels like there would be no other way to begin.
This film comes from Laurent Bouzereau, a prolific author and documentarian who has made making-of films for Steven Spielberg for decades, and has written at least three books on the filmmaker, including last year’s Spielberg: The First Ten Years. Bouzereau has even made a documentary on Williams before — 2017’s TV film Steven Spielberg & John Williams: The Adventure Continues. So, there is certainly a sense of well-trodden ground here, and it’s a fairly cosy portrait between regular collaborators, rather than a probing journalistic inquiry.
Does an excellent job of capturing his importance.

At the premiere of Disney+ doc Music by John Williams on opening night of AFI Fest on Wednesday, Steven Spielberg took some time to reflect on his longtime collaboration with the legendary composer.
The duo have worked on nearly 30 films together, including Jaws, E.T., Schindler’s List and the Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones franchises. Spielberg serves as producer on the new Williams documentary and inside the Los Angeles screening, recalled how for several years the two would host fundraiser concerts for orchestras around the country. The filmmaker would play a scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade with no music first, joking the four-minute scene would feel like 14 minutes. And then the scene would replay with Williams leading an orchestra, making the four minutes feel like 90 seconds.

Life imitates art as the location used for the Temple of the Holy Grail in the 1989 Steven Spielberg film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, starring Harrison Ford, has an amazing secret that’s been recently uncovered. The location of the fictional temple is a stunning building that is carved into a sandstone cliff called The Treasury, which is located in Petra, Jordan. Archeologists have long attempted to find a conclusive answer of what the building was used for. However, a popular theory is that it was a mausoleum that was built for the final resting place of an important ruler during its era.
According to The Washington Post, a group of researchers had recently discovered “a chamber buried underneath the Treasury, also known as al-Khazneh, that contains the remains of 12 people and other items they say could finally reveal the structure’s secrets and shed some light on the origins of Petra.

They say a friend in need is a friend indeed, and this couldn’t be truer for Sandra Bullock and Samantha Mathis. Have you ever wondered how deep the roots of friendship can grow in the world of Hollywood, where authenticity is a rare gem?

Being cast as James Bond is a pretty great booster to anyones career, but Sean Connery managed to earn just as many iconic roles after he chose to leave the 007 franchise. Connery was able to make the transition between being the definitive leading man of a generation to a highly respected supporting actor. While it was his work in the classic Brian De Palma gangster film The Untouchables that finally earned him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor that he had long since deserved, Connerys decision to play Henry Jones Sr. in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade ended up earning him an entirely new audience of younger fans. While he may be the only cast member of the franchise that is as beloved as Harrison Ford, Connery refused Steven Spielbergs offer to reprise his role in the fourth chapter of the Indiana Jones saga.

Steven Spielberg only had this James Bond actor in mind to play the father of Indiana Jones, Henry Jones, in the third Indy film, The Last Crusade. George Lucas imagined Laurence Olivier for the role, which was initially written to be a more serious one. However, Spielberg wanted to cast Sean Connery in the role and try to outdo his James Bond role.
