A funny, if slightly outdated, comedy with a good portrayal of Polish reality in the early 1970s

I found "Dzieciol" (Woodpecker) quite funny. The plot is about forty-year-old Stefan Waldek (Wieslaw Golas), an employee of a supermarket, who is completely dominated by his wife (Alina Janowska)-a sportswoman. During the absence of his wife Miska, who practices shooting and often travels to competitions, the man spends hours indulging in his hobby-listening to records with recorded bird calls. His colleagues at work consider him a weirdo who has never cheated on his wife. This opinion of his colleagues worries Stefan. When Miska once again leaves him at home, he decides to take advantage of her absence by spending time in the company of other women. This leads to many complications. When "Woodpecker" hit the cinema screens in 1971, it won over audiences hungry for entertainment. Critics, despite the box office success, were more reserved in their delight, complaining about the lack of stylistic consistency and not very sophisticated humor, but they admitted that the whole thing made a good impression thanks to its strong roots in Polish realities, only slightly caricatured, great acting, and a fast pace. I personally agree with the critics of the 1970s and not the enthusiastic audience. But I found some scenes terribly funny, and the participation of so many popular actors made it good entertainment for me.
