Trivia

L'ange Levine

Edit
Edward G. Robinson was originally slated to play the part of Mishkin, but had to pull out due to illness.
The script is based on a short story by Bernard Malamud, "Angel Levine," which was first published in the December 1955 issue of Commentary. In the original story, Mishkin's name was Manischewitz, and his wife's first name was Leah. The story also had a much more upbeat ending.
Final film of actress Ida Kaminska.
First feature film appearance for Harry Belafonte in over ten years - since Le coup de l'escalier (1959). He had been focusing on his recording career.
In the end credits, the producers acknowledge the aid of The Ford Foundation who "...helped initiate the first apprentice program for minorities in the American film industry."
