Action movie dreams are made of projects like Amazon MGM Studios’ The Wrecking Crew, which will see genre icons real-life man-mountains Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista joining forces for a Lethal Weapon-esque buddy-comedy. Dave Bautista is returning to the sci-fi genre. After starring in Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and Denis Villeneuve's two-part film adaptation of Dune, the actor has been tapped to headline the upcoming dystopian thriller, Dreadnought.

According to Deadline, Bautista will reunite with his Bushwick directors, Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott, for Dreadnought. The screenplay, written by Joseph Greenberg, follows "Max (Bautista), whose world was devastated when an alien species crash-landed on Earth, unleashing a deadly plague that claimed his wife and much of humanity. Morena Baccarin and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson have been cast in the upcoming live-action feature film “Masters of the Universe,” based on the iconic Mattel franchise, Amazon MGM and Mattel announced on Monday.

Baccarin is playing the Sorceress and Jóhannesson is playing Fisto. Both actors would star alongside Nicholas Galitzine in the role of He-Man, Camila Mendes, who is playing Teela, Alison Brie as “Evil-Lyn,” and Idris Elba (Duncan/Man-at-Arms), which TheWrap first exclusively reported.

It's official: Jason Momoa is finally going to play Lobo in a live-action DC project. It was recently revealed that he'd been cast in the role and is set to make his debut in the upcoming movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Action movie stars and real-life living man-mountains Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista will star together in a Lethal Weapon-esque buddy-comedy movie titled The Wrecking Crew, it has been confirmed. The project, which began life as a suggestion by Bautista back in 2021, is moving forward at Amazon MGM Studios, and the movie has now found the perfect villain in Dracula star Claes Bang.

As per a report by The Wrap, Claes Bang, who is best known for his role as Dracula in the BBC/Netflix series based on Bram Stokers novel, as well as Ruben stlund's 2017 black comedy The Square and Robert Eggers' historical epic The Northman, will be the one to go up against Momoa and Bautista. Which, for any ordinary mortal, would be a hugely intimidating prospect, but Bang has proven time and again to be rather adept at portraying the kind of terrifying villain necessary to make the rivalry in any way believable.

On a balmy Thursday night, at the corners of Broxton and Weyburn Avenues in Westwood Village, a smattering of movie lovers bathed in yellow and blue neon lights snapped photos of a marquee.

They came to pay last respects to the Fox Bruin Theater, whose 7:30 p.m. screening of Twisters would be its last, the first time the Streamline Moderne landmark would shutter since opening its doors in 1937.

Regency Theatres, which in 2010 swooped in to save the movie house from potential extinction, opted not to renew its lease on that 670-seat theater, nor the 1,400-seat Fox Village Theater across the street.

But the Village found a savior in director Jason Reitman, who earlier this year led a consortium of 35 fellow filmmakers who banded together to purchase the property, with plans to renovate it and eventually reopen. No timeline or details have yet been announced on the project.

Exclusive: Apple Original Films has won a spirited auction to land The Corsair Code, an original feature film set to star Chris Hemsworth. The film is based on a short story by Jonathan Tropper, which he brought to Hemsworth and his producing partner Ben Grayson.

Hemsworth and Grayson will produce through their Wild State shingle, and Apple Studios will serve as the studio. Tropper will write the screenplay and produce through his shingle Tropper Ink.

The Corsair Code is described as a high-octane, sci-fi mystery adventure, but they are keeping plot specifics under wraps.

Tropper already is in business with an overall TV deal at Apple TV+, where he created and is the showrunner of Your Friends and Neighbors, which is in production, with Mad Men’s Jon Hamm the EP and star of the series. Updated: Westwood Village’s Bruin Theatre and Fox Village Theatre will screen their last films — for now — on Thursday as Regency Theatres’ lease comes to an end at the two historic Los Angeles venues.

Opened in 1937, the streamline-moderne style Bruin is being represented by commercial real estate firm Newmark, which repped the sale of the Fox Village. Steven Salas, managing director of Newmark, said the property is not formally on the market yet, so it hasn’t been decided whether it would be for lease or for sale. Several parties have expressed interest in the theater for “multiple uses,” Salas said, including Jason Reitman’s consortium.

With 670 seats, the Bruin smaller than the Fox Village Theatre across the street, which currently has about 1400 seats. Both venues have a long history of hosting movie premieres, while the Bruin also played an important role in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

"Gilligan's Island" wasn't the most sophisticated television series ever to beam into our living rooms. For three seasons between 1964 and 1967 (and over decades of syndication thereafter), viewers turned in to watch seven castaways stranded on an uncharted island somewhere far off the coast of Hawaii attempt and inevitably fail to find their way back to civilization. In just about every case, their endeavors were bungled by Gilligan (Bob Denver), an energetic young shipmate with a heart of gold and a headful of rocks.

The show never deviated from this stupidly simple setup (despite the network's initial efforts), but it was so good-naturedly silly and energetically performed that you excused the rigid repetition. Kids loved the broadly visual gags, while parents could appreciate the ensemble chemistry generated between old pros like Jim Backus, Alan Hale, Jr. and Natalie Schafer.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, ngel Manuel Soto will direct the Just Cause movie. Exclusive: After successfully launching the Extraction film franchise at Netflix, director Sam Hargrave has his eyes set on another potential franchise with a piece of IP that is revving its engines to get out the gate. Sources tell Deadline that Skydance and Mattel Films have closed a deal with Hargrave to direct a live-action movie based on Matchbox, Mattel’s iconic real-world die-cast toy vehicle line. David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper are penning the script.

Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger will produce alongside Robbie Brenner for Mattel Films. The project will be shepherded by Aimee Rivera for Skydance and Elizabeth Bassin and Andrew Scannell for Mattel Films.

She will be responsible for sourcing material and shepherding series through development, packaging, production and beyond.

Director Denny Tedesco previously scored a hit among music fans with his 2008 film “The Wrecking Crew,” a documentary about the battalion of 1960s studio musicians whose names were little known even among the cognoscenti, until these unknown soldiers started to quietly get their due decades later. From A24, The Zone of Interest premiered at Cannes (Deadline review here), winning the Grand Prix, and the Fipresci Prize. The (actual) commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss (Christian Friedel) and his wife Hedwig strive to build a dream life for their growing family in a lovely villa and garden whose back wall abuts the concentration camp. The film opens with the family picnicking and frolicking on a lush riverbank, then trekking happily home.

In The Wrecking Crew, Denny Tedesco lovingly chronicled a legendary collective of musicians, his father among them, who appeared on countless studio recordings in the 1960s, revered within the business but unsung in the public sphere. "We really wanted to find a way to bring Ted Kord back. It'd not only be a part of the family drama that we've explored in the movie, but canonically, it's also something very special," he said.
