No, you did not blink and miss it. John Malkovich will no longer appear in Marvel Studios’ upcoming tentpole The Fantastic Four: First Steps, despite having filmed scenes as the villain Ivan Kragoff, also known as the Red Ghost.

Director Matt Shakman confirmed the decision to cut the Emmy-winning/Oscar-nominated actor's scenes in an interview with Variety, citing the film’s complex structure and need to keep focus.

“There was a lot of stuff to balance in this movie, and some things had to go,” Shakman said. “John is one of my favorite humans and one of my biggest inspirations. It was heartbreaking not to include him."

Malkovich’s scenes were part of the film’s early sequence, which explored the Fantastic Four’s first years as superheroes. A brief shot of Malkovich as the Red Ghost appeared in the first teaser trailer.

Fellow SFX legend Rick Baker shared a touching tribute on Instagram, honoring Cannom’s early career start working alongside him on films like The Incredible Melting Man and It Lives Again.

In Cannom’s impressive career, the legendary artist was nominated for 14 Academy Awards and won four Oscars for his work on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Mrs. Doubtfire, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Vice.

In 2005, Cannom and Wesley Wofford won a Technical Achievement Award for “the development of their special modified silicone material for makeup applications used in motion pictures,” a proprietary modified silicone makeup system that advanced makeup appliance techniques in film. The accolades didn’t stop there, either, as he was a 2019 recipient of the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild’s Lifetime Achievement Awards.

How’s that? The Pulitzer Prize-winning, 22 Grammy trophies, and Black Panther Oscar nominated Lamar is kicking off his global tour April 19, while Parker and Stone have their South Park commitments. The plot is under wraps, but it’s billed as an original live-action comedy.

Producers are Stone and Parker for Park County, and Lamar and Free for pgLang.

The release-date move leaves Universal’s monolith Jurassic World Rebirth on July 2 and an Angel Studios untitled movie on July 4, with Warner Bros/DC Studios’ Superman from James Gunn opening July 11.

No, Stevie Nicks has not seen Stereophonic, David Adjmi’s hit Broadway play about a fictional (but very Mac-like) ’70s band recording what will become its (very Rumours-like) masterpiece album.

In fact, the singer who shared vocals (and decades of triumphs and tribulations) with her Fleetwood Mac bandmates Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie has never even heard of the Broadway smash.

In a new Rolling Stone interview promoting her latest song “The Lighthouse” (which she performed on Saturday Night Live earlier this month – just four blocks from the home of Stereophonic), Nicks was asked whether she had seen the play, which, among other storylines, chronicles the crumbling of a relationship between a Stevie-like singer and a Lindsey-like guitarist.

High-concept movies, particularly those based on previous films or novels, often face an uphill battle to surpass their predecessors. The inevitable comparisons and ‘who did it better’ debates can overshadow the new iteration’s merits. However, every so often, a fresh take can breathe new life into a beloved character, defying expectations and captivating audiences anew.
