No, you did not blink and miss it. John Malkovich will no longer appear in Marvel Studios’ upcoming tentpole The Fantastic Four: First Steps, despite having filmed scenes as the villain Ivan Kragoff, also known as the Red Ghost.
Director Matt Shakman confirmed the decision to cut the Emmy-winning/Oscar-nominated actor's scenes in an interview with Variety, citing the film’s complex structure and need to keep focus.
“There was a lot of stuff to balance in this movie, and some things had to go,” Shakman said. “John is one of my favorite humans and one of my biggest inspirations. It was heartbreaking not to include him."
Malkovich’s scenes were part of the film’s early sequence, which explored the Fantastic Four’s first years as superheroes. A brief shot of Malkovich as the Red Ghost appeared in the first teaser trailer.

Tom Hanks' acclaimed historical drama series John Adams is becoming a hit all over again thanks to a streaming resurgence. Paul Giamatti played the title character — one of America's founding fathers and second president — in the 2008 HBO series.
Per FlixPatrol, John Adams has rocketed back into Max's top 10 streaming shows as of Sunday, July 6. While the sudden streaming surge may have been sparked by the July 4 holiday weekend, it's still an impressive feat considering John Adams is 17 years old.
Hanks executive produced John Adams along with his long-time Playtone partner Gary Goetzman. The pair enlisted screenwriter Kirk Ellis (Anne Frank: The Whole Story) to adapt author David McCullough's 2001 biography John Adams, which won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography.

"Jaws" was released in June of 1975, and the very fact that we're still passionately, eagerly discussing the movie decades later for its 50th anniversary says a lot about its impact, value, and staying power. In addition to just how damn good the film itself is, there's so much lore and debate that surrounds it to this day. One question that often comes up is a deceptively simple one: what's the scariest scene or moment in the movie? Some will say the opening sequence, others the various attacks by the Great White on crowded public beaches in the middle of a sunny summer day. For my money, however, no moment in "Jaws" is more richly disturbing than a setpiece we don't actually get to see: the sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis in 1945, in which the few survivors of the World War II skirmish found themselves wading in shark-infested waters with no hope of rescue.

What does the animated sci-fi comedy series "Rick and Morty" have in common with the riveting HBO drama "Succession"? If you guessed "absolutely nothing," you'd be correct; or rather, you would've been correct before "Rick and Morty" season 8.
In a recent interview, showrunner Scott Marder explained how the season 8 premiere, "Summer of All Fears," came about. The episode showed viewers what Summer and Morty are like as bitter adults, unpacking how their newfound maturity (and jadedness) would impact their relationships with their parental figures. "It was heavily influenced by 'Succession,'" Marder said. "I think that series really made us excited about getting to do something grounded with adult versions of Summer and Morty."
It's especially easy to see the parallels between Shiv Roy of "Succession" and adult Summer in the premiere. Adult Summer cuts her hair short like Shiv did in season 2, and she maintains a similarly cold demeanor.

Respected Lionsgate executive Jason Constantine has died at age 55 after a long battle with cancer, the studio announced Thursday.
The executive was a fixture on the festival circuit and a major player in the acquisitions space for years. He started his career more than 25 years ago at Trimark Pictures, the predecessor company of Lionsgate, where he served as director of acquisitions and rose through the ranks to become co-president of the Lionsgate motion picture group.
He was an early champion of Saw and pushed for the studio to acquire the project after viewing the short film from then-unknown director James Wan and writer-star Leigh Whannell. The franchise has grossed more than $1 billion at the box office, as has the John Wick series, which came under Constantine’s tenure.

How Did HBO’s Succession Break Cillian Murphy’s Heart?(Photo Credit –Facebook)
It’s been over a year since Succession signed off, but some wounds still sting, especially for Cillian Murphy. During the whirlwind press tour for Oppenheimer in early 2024, Murphy confessed he was just as crushed as the rest of us when HBO’s sharpest show ended.
At the time, Murphy had just become Hollywood’s golden boy, picking up accolades left and right for his role as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s biopic. But even as a newly minted Oscar frontrunner, Murphy had a fan moment of his own. In an interview with Variety, he admitted, “I met some of the guys from Succession. That’s my favorite show on the telly. I’m so heartbroken that it’s finished.”

We’re sad to report that Oscar-winning makeup artist Greg Cannom, whose career spans over four decades as a prosthetics and SFX master, has passed away.
Fellow SFX legend Rick Baker shared a touching tribute on Instagram, honoring Cannom’s early career start working alongside him on films like The Incredible Melting Man and It Lives Again.
In Cannom’s impressive career, the legendary artist was nominated for 14 Academy Awards and won four Oscars for his work on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Mrs. Doubtfire, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Vice.
In 2005, Cannom and Wesley Wofford won a Technical Achievement Award for “the development of their special modified silicone material for makeup applications used in motion pictures,” a proprietary modified silicone makeup system that advanced makeup appliance techniques in film. The accolades didn’t stop there, either, as he was a 2019 recipient of the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild’s Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Hulu's new comedy Mid-Century Modern is not a gay reboot of The Golden Girls. It's a nice compliment, if not daunting, but stars Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, and Nathan Lee Graham describe their R-rated laffer as more of a "spiritual sister" to the iconic sitcom that ran for seven seasons on NBC.
"It was a quick way of pitching the idea for the show and then once people latched on to that — are you Bea Arthur and are you Rue McClanahan — we're really not doing that kind of show," Lane tells Gold Derby (watch the video interview above). "It's its own entity. It is about a group of friends living together in my house with my mother, but once you establish that it goes off in its own direction. But look, if that gets people to tune in — wonderful!"

Somnium is the first feature from writer/director Racheal Cain after a trio of shorts, Everything Beautiful, The Clancy Family Funeral Home and Roaddog. It’s a film about dreams, both literal and figurative, following Gemma as, in the wake of a painful breakup, she decides to relocate to Los Angeles and pursue her dreams of Hollywood fame and fortune.
But, as we see in the montage that follows her arrival, that’s a dream that takes more than wishing on a star to make happen. Needing to pay the bills, she takes a job working nights at a sleep research company called Somnium as a sleep sitter, watching over the sleeping patients. Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated actor Woody Harrelson first hit our screens as the somewhat simple but always friendly bartender in Cheers. But since then he has gone on the become a favorite of the big screen, with appearances in Indecent Proposal, Natural Born Killers, and more recently Seven Ponds with Will Smith.
But in between starring in some of recent cinema’s most memorable movies, Harrelson has also become known as an environmental activist who is not scared to go out on a limb to save the planet.
He once scaled the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco with members of North Coast Earth First! group to unfurl a banner that read, “Aren’t ancient redwoods more precious than gold?” and traveled the American West Coast on a bike and domino caravan with a hemp oil-fueled biodiesel bus.

Over the years, Hollywood has churned out several sci-fi movies boasting A-list stars, spaceships, fictional planets, and spectacular cosmic vistas. And most of those movies have seemingly bent the laws of physics for commercial and artistic purposes. But when it came to the perfectionist Christopher Nolan, the director hired a theoretical physicist, Kip Thorne, to keep him grounded for Interstellar.

You won’t believe how well that served Christopher Nolan, especially since the filmmaker was almost set to deviate too far from the realms of what’s actually possible in physics. According to Kip Thorne, Nolan apparently wanted to add the “non-negotiable” concept of traveling faster than the speed of light. Thankfully, Thorne refused to give in.

Mckenna Grace's run on the "Big Bang Theory" franchise seemingly ended with "Young Sheldon," but she has ideas in mind for how her Paige Swanson character can live on. During a 2018 interview with her "Young Sheldon" co-star Iain Armitage for Entertainment Tonight, Grace revealed that she wants Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon to play an older version of Paige, as she sees some parallels between the most famous characters they've played.
"Reese Witherspoon, 'cause she's a lot like Paige in 'Legally Blonde,'" Swanson replied when asked who she wants to play an older version of Paige." Grace didn't elaborate on the similarities between her "Young Sheldon" character and Witherspoon's Elle Woods from that film, but it might have something to do with the fact both of them excel at their studies and boast the same hair color. Anna Sawai may have just found her next big role. After standing out as a fan favorite in the TV shows Shogun and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Sawai may next be playing the widow of music legend John Lennon.
Per film scooper Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, Sawai is currently being eyed to play Yoko Ono in the upcoming Beatles biopics from filmmaker Sam Mendes. Each member of The Beatles will be given his own biopic, though all four will be connected, essentially forming their own cinematic universe. No, Stevie Nicks has not seen Stereophonic, David Adjmi’s hit Broadway play about a fictional (but very Mac-like) ’70s band recording what will become its (very Rumours-like) masterpiece album.
In fact, the singer who shared vocals (and decades of triumphs and tribulations) with her Fleetwood Mac bandmates Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie has never even heard of the Broadway smash.
In a new Rolling Stone interview promoting her latest song “The Lighthouse” (which she performed on Saturday Night Live earlier this month – just four blocks from the home of Stereophonic), Nicks was asked whether she had seen the play, which, among other storylines, chronicles the crumbling of a relationship between a Stevie-like singer and a Lindsey-like guitarist.
Here’s the exchange:
Rolling Stone: Have you seen the Stereophonic play?

High-concept movies, particularly those based on previous films or novels, often face an uphill battle to surpass their predecessors. The inevitable comparisons and ‘who did it better’ debates can overshadow the new iteration’s merits. However, every so often, a fresh take can breathe new life into a beloved character, defying expectations and captivating audiences anew.
Jeff Bridges, in particular, had a profound vision for a beloved character from the MonsterVerse. The King Kong (1976) actor had a potential sequel, which unfortunately never came to fruition due to the movie’s modest box office performance. Bridges’ vision for the future of the giant ape was quite intriguing and might have become a hit for the genre.

You can't have "Jaws" without Quint, a modern Captain Ahab if he'd been hunting a great white shark rather than a white whale. It's difficult to picture anyone but Robert Shaw (in one of his last roles before his premature death in 1978) in the part, but the actor actually wasn't who director Steven Spielberg first had in mind.
In "Spielberg: The First Ten Years" by Laurent Bouzereau, Spielberg claimed his first choice for Quint was Lee Marvin. He wanted a big star and Marvin was famous for playing sinister tough guys. See: "The Big Heat," "Point Blank," "The Dirty Dozen," and "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" (directed by the man who taught Spielberg how to frame a horizon.) Marvin, though, said no. Spielberg recounted: "What I heard was that [Marvin] wanted to go fishing for real! He took his fishing very seriously and didn't want to do it from a 'movie' boat.
