Catherine Spaak was only 15 at the time of filming.
Director Alberto Lattuada was a friend of Catherine Spaak's father. He tried to cast young Catherine in his movie for years but was refused by her father saying she was too young. He finally gave in when she turned 15 on the condition he would return her in one piece.
The film got into trouble with Italian censorship. A total of 8 scenes and 301.5 meters of film were eliminated before it was allowed to be released to public.
Catherine Spaak's voice was dubbed as she did not speak Italian at the time.
Catherine Spaak's first leading role. She got her big break when her uncredited brief appearance in Le Trou (The Hole, 1960) caught the eye of a Paris TV reporter. Sophia Loren happened to see the reporter's interview with Catherine on TV. She immediately thought she looked perfect as Francesca in this film which was being cast by her producer-husband Carlo Ponti.
