- [He sobs]

- [Ousu spots Ototachibana praying in the stream]
- Prince Yamato Takeru: Oh, Princess Ototachibana!
- [Ototachibana gasps in fright and tries to flee. Ousu, meaning no harm, pursues her. She hides behind a bush but he finds her]
- Prince Yamato Takeru: It's me, Ousu.
- Princess Oto Tachibana: Don't come any closer!
- Prince Yamato Takeru: Why not?
- [He moves in further to explain]
- Prince Yamato Takeru: I couldn't sleep so I came to the river. Not even darkness makes me forget about you. It's a happy encounter. I'm glad I came. It's all right. I wanted to see you before I left! So please...
- [He turns to leave]
- Prince Yamato Takeru: Be happy for me and pray for me!
- [Ousu has wounded the Younger Kumaso and is about to finish him off]
- Younger Kumaso: Wait a moment!
- Prince Yamato Takeru: Are you afraid of death?
- Younger Kumaso: It's not that. Are you Prince Ousu of Yamato?
- Prince Yamato Takeru: That's right. What's it to you?

- Prince Yamato Takeru: I will go far away from here. To the ends of the Earth, to the Moon, or under the sea! Just anywhere!
- [He doubles over, sobbing]
- Princess Oto Tachibana: Prince, please don't say such things! Your pain is more painful to me than my death!
- [Yamato Takeru looks over at her]
- Prince Yamato Takeru: Ototachibana.
- Princess Oto Tachibana: Yes?
- Prince Yamato Takeru: Do your eyes tell me the truth?
- [Ototachibana shakes her head]
- Princess Oto Tachibana: I have disobeyed your aunt by coming after you.
- Prince Yamato Takeru: That doesn't matter! I'll never allow you to leave! Stay with me! You are mine!
- [He hugs her tightly]
