In 1995 the film was restored by and shown in United States upon the financial support from Francis Coppola.

During the filming, Vasiliy Livanov caught a cold in his throat and broke his voice (by Kalatozov's decision, he voiced the role on the street in a strong wind and frost at -40 ° C), as a result of which his voice forever acquired the famous hoarse timbre.
The shooting took place in the taiga on the banks of the Us and Enisey rivers.
