Crime & Punishment, USA (1959)

Trivia

Crime & Punishment, USA

Edit
The opening aerial shots are of Pacific Ocean Park in Santa Monica, CA, a popular amusement park in the 1960s that has since closed down.
The series Columbo (1971), which came out a decade later, is very similar to this movie: A slick, handsome, pompous killer being complimented into submission by a seemingly helpful, everyman cop, appearing as a good friend (and at times an inept investigator) while his unaware culprit "helps him" solve the case: unknowingly implicating him in the process. That's because Frank Silvera's character is based on the cop in Fyodor Dostoevsky's source novel, Crime and Punishment, who is the same character Peter Falk's Columbo is based on. Also note that, in the 1970's, George Hamilton gets busted by Columbo as well.
Film debut of George Hamilton, who receives an "introducing" credit.
Magda Harout's debut.
The $10,000 left Debbie in the will equates to about $107,000 in 2024.
