Cast of horror film Another includes Heather Langenkamp and Doug Jones
Andy Chen
Last year, filmmaker Andy Chen caught a lot of attention with his short film The Spider, which put a body horror spin on the concept of Spider-Man. Now, our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that Chen is making his feature directorial debut with a horror movie called Another – and there are a couple of genre icons in the cast! Heather Langenkamp of A Nightmare on Elm Street and Doug Jones of The Shape of Water star in Another alongside Bob Morley (The 100), India de Beaufort (Kimi), and Anna Akana (A Million Little Things).

Scripted by Chen and Alexander Hernandez-Maxwell, Another follows Joey (de Beaufort), a grief-stricken author haunted by the death of her husband, Ben (Morley), a brilliant physicist. When Ben inexplicably appears one morning, alive and well, making breakfast in their kitchen, Joey is thrust into a waking nightmare where grief, memory, and reality begin to unravel.

Daredevil: Born Again's Miles Morales tease might not be what it seems
Image
The Spider-Verse is set to grow even more, and while Sony’s Spider-Man Universe has seemingly gone down in flames with the box office bombing of Kraven the Hunter, the Marvel Cinematic Universe still has big plans for Web-Head. Aside from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' Destin Daniel Cretton heading up Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man standalone, there’s the delayed Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse alongside rumors that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire could return for Avengers: Secret Wars.

Given that the events of the Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man led directly into 2015’s Secret Wars, which then led to the Ultimate Universe being folded into ‘main’ Marvel continuity with Miles Morales in tow, there are questions about whether this will play out in the MCU. There’s already plenty of talk about a supposed ‘reset’ following Secret Wars, and even though it’s only a matter of...

Barbie Movie Cast and Character Guide
Image
Margot Robbie leads the critically acclaimed Barbiemovie, and it features plenty of notable faces in the supporting cast as well. For the most part, the characters are directly inspired by toys that have been released over the years or are original Barbie movie characters. Of course, this means that the long-beloved Mattel toys Barbie and Ken are not just two people.

Instead, the Truman Show-esque Barbieland is populated with plenty of Barbies and Kens. Still, each character has its place in the story, and they all help make this version of Barbieland vibrant and memorable. Most of these characters are portrayed by familiar faces for fans to look for.

Updated by Jordan Iacobucci on March 7, 2025: Following the smash success of the first live-action Barbie movie in 2023, all eyes are on Greta Gerwig as she works toward making a sequel. While news on this front is still scarce, fans know...

I'm Worried Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is Making a Mistake With This Spider-Verse Character in Season 2
Image
Quick LinksSpider-Gwen is One of the Most Popular Marvel Characters in Recent HistorySpider-Gwen Works Best When She Comes From an Alternate UniverseYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man's Version of Gwen Stacy Could Be Spectacular

The following contains minor spoilers for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, now streaming on Disney+.

Based on the marketing, I did not expect to enjoy Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and the early episodes did little to prove me wrong. The humor rarely landed for me, and unlike in the best Spider-Man stories, I found myself struggling to care about the events of Peter Parker's personal life. However, by the end of the first season, I was having a good time with the series. Though it certainly did not reach the heights of my favorite superhero cartoons, like The Spectacular Spider-Man, the plot surrounding Norman Osborn and Otto Octavius was entertaining, as was the series’ vicious depiction of Scorpion. If...

There are no less than ten animated series dedicated to the superhero Spider-Man, along with two animated films, and that doesn’t count the appearances that the hero has made in crossover shows and other characters’ shows. With the release of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, we wanted to look back on what we think are the best animated versions of the superhero.

This Recurring Marvel Actor Deserved Another Shot at Playing a Beloved X-Men Villain
Image
Quick Links Why Liev Schreiber Played a Better Sabretooth Than Tyler Mane Schreiber's Sabretooth Almost Returned For Logan Could Liev Schreiber Still Return For Another X-Men Related Project?

Deadpool and Wolverine recently brought back a plethora of Marvel characters that were previously licensed by 20th Century Fox. While those like Blade and X-23 played major supporting roles, others were only brought back for glorified cameos like Chris Evans’ Human Torch. Even Sabretooth was brought back, only it wasn’t quite the Sabretooth many were hoping to see. Tyler Mane, who played the character in the first X-Men film before Liev Schreiber took on the role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, was the one to have his glorious reprisal. It was Schreiber, however, who played the version that many seem to remember more fondly; as even though his film received heavy-hitting bouts of negative criticism, his performance was considered to be one of its few redeeming qualities.

The Spider-Verse Will Never Incorporate AI Art, Writer Promises
Image
Sony may be planning to embrace the use of artificial intelligence with future movies and TV shows, but that's not going to apply to every title released by the company. The anticipated sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is promised to use any AI at all.

After it was confirmed by Sony CEO Tony Vinciquerra that the company will be using AI for future projects, one fan took to the social media platform X to voice concerns over this happening with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. It was pleaded for Sony to keep AI away from movies, but especially Beyond the Spider-Verse, perhaps given the franchise's unique art style. Producer and co-writer Christopher Miller responded to this fan post to assure everyone that the film will not be using AI whatsoever, going on to share the negative opinion he has about the rise of this practice in the film industry.

Chandler Riggs (seen in "The Walking Dead" & "A Million Little Things") stars as Spider-Man, along with Caylee Cowan, Matthew Vorce, Kyra Gardner, Holgie Forrester, Carl Addicott, David Rice, Andrew Hernon, Kealani Kitaura, Ronan Arthur & Ben Thomas. With a score by Alexander Taylor. It is an entirely fan-made, non-profit film inspired by Spider-Man. Our pals over at Live for Film also point out that there is actually a "fully mutated Man-Spider" from the comics, and this short also seems similar to...

Here are the winners for the 22nd Annual Golden Schmoes!
Image
Well, everyone, the winners for the 22nd Annual Golden Schmoes for the year 2023 are in. As expected, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer walked away the big winner, earning nine Schmoes. It took home most of the big prizes, including Best Movie, Actor, Supporting Actor, Director, Screenplay, Poster, Trailer, Line of the Year and Best Sequence. While an excellent showing that beat the seven wins Everything Everywhere All At Once took home last year, it still falls short of our all-time winner here at the Schmoes, Nolan’s own The Dark Knight, which won an amazing 12 awards.

Otherwise, the winners were an eclectic mix. Godzilla Minus One, which is now widely considered the greatest Kaiju movie ever made, took home three awards, including Best VFX, which is impressive considering how small its budget was compared to the competition. Third place was an interesting tie, with John Wick: Chapter 4, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,...

‘Oppenheimer,’ ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ Among Advanced Imaging Society Award Winners
Image
Cillian Murphy saluted the “unsung heroes” — the artists, engineers and craftspeople — who make Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Friday at the Advanced Imaging Society’s 14th Lumiere Awards. Murphy, who stars in the titular role of the Universal film, accepted the Lumiere for best live-action feature for the movie, on behalf of Nolan, Emma Thomas and the “family.”

The Advanced Imaging Society recognizes the intersection of art and technology, and the celebration of all who work on movies was shared throughout the luncheon ceremony, which was held at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

“Filmmaking is a team game … the best part of this work is that we do it together,” Jeffrey Wright told attendees as he accepted the society’s inaugural Distinguished Artist Award for his performance in American Fiction, which was presented to him by his co-star, John Ortiz.

Every Spider-Man Movie That Has Won Or Been Nominated For An Oscar
Image
Spider-Man movies have a history of Oscar nominations and wins in the technical categories, showcasing impressive visual effects and sound design. The original Spider-Man trilogy, directed by Sam Raimi, garnered five nominations and one win, while the standalone MCU Spider-Man movies have received one nomination. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse won Best Animated Feature, and the sequel has a chance to follow suit as it's been nominated fo the same award this year.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been nominated for an Oscar at the 96th Academy Awards, joining four other Spider-Man movies that have received the same honor for Marvel. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 receiving a Visual Effects nomination, Marvel has a chance to beat DC’s long-running Oscar victory record. But with a Spider-Man movie also making the cut, it’s another occasion for the Academy to honor New York’s favorite web-slinger...

Art Directors Guild Awards: Look for Oscar winner for Best Production Design among nominees
Image
On January 9, the Art Directors Guild announced the nominees for its 28th annual awards, which will be handed out on February 10. These kudos have a stellar record at previewing the Academy Awards. Over the first 27 years of these prizes, the eventual Oscar winner for Best Production Design has always numbered among the Adg nominees in the various categories.

“Barbie” is the clear frontrunner to win the Oscar for Best Production Design. It reaped a bid in the fantasy film genre with the Adg as did its strongest Oscar rival, “Poor Things.” Two of the other three likeliest Oscar nominees — “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Oppenheimer” — contend in the period picture category. Our fifth pick, “The Color Purple,” was snubbed in that race, which is rounded out by “Asteroid City,” “Maestro” and “Napoleon.”

The other fantasy film nominees are: “The Creator,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and “Wonka.”

Miles’ Brutal Across The Spider-Verse Twist Given Hilarious Bonus Scene In Spider-Verse 3 Art
Image
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse introduces a new Miles Morales variant, the Prowler, and a fan-made video hilariously explores their interaction. The possibility of a team-up between the two Miles Morales versions in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse would be more interesting than them fighting each other. The description of the Prowler Miles as an "athletic vigilante" suggests a potential plot twist where he is not actually a villain, leading to a collaboration between the two characters.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’s major Miles Morales twist gets a funny bonus scene in a Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse fan video. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse featured even more Spider-Men than the first entry in the animated franchise. The movie even saw the debut of a Miles Morales variant, which was not another Spider-Man but rather a version of the Marvel villain known as the Prowler.

Image
Miles Morales will appear in a Spider-Verse short called The Spider Within, focusing on his struggles with anxiety and balancing his personal life with being Spider-Man. The short film will provide context to the final scene of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and explore Miles' panic attack and manifestations of anxiety in a more comprehensive way. The exploration of anxiety and mental health in The Spider Within will contribute to positive representation in the film industry, addressing a necessary topic in today's society.

Miles Morales is set to appear in a short spinoff from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse titled The Spider Within, which is set to feature a villain that Marvel Studios tried to integrate into the MCU in 2013's Iron Man 3. Sony's animated Spider-Verse projects have become hugely popular among audiences, focusing on Miles Morales' Spider-Man from Earth-1610 rather than Peter Parker, and the success of 2018's...

Why The Exorcist Deleted (Then Restored) Regan's Infamous Spider Walk
Image
The Exorcist spider walk scene, initially deleted from the film's release, was restored later, delighting fans who consider it a favorite sequence. Director William Friedkin felt the scene was a big special effect too early in the story, but later reinserted the scene using CGI to erase wires. The inclusion of the spider walk scene changes the entire movie, adding evidence of Regan's possession and ramping up tension in the film.

The Exorcist spider walk scene where Regan comes down the stairs toward her horrified mother and her house guests is infamous - but wasn't in the original version. Here's why The Exorcist spider walk scene was deleted from the theatrical cut, then later restored. Often cited as one of the greatest and scariest horror films ever made, The Exorcist still remains the benchmark for demonic possession movies nearly 50 years after its release. Based on the William Peter Blatty novel,...

Spider-Verse Theory Makes Miles' Sequel Suit Secretly Heartbreaking
Image
Miles Morales' new suit in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse may hold a secretly heartbreaking detail inspired by his deceased Uncle Aaron's suit. Hobie and Peter's jokes about Miles' suit looking like he's bleeding from his armpits become more brutal if the theory is correct, as it would mean Miles made changes to honor his late uncle. If the theory is true, the other Spider-Men unintentionally added to Miles' trauma by unknowingly making comments about his suit that tie back to his uncle's death.

A Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse theory makes Miles Morales' new suit secretly heartbreaking. Shameik Moore's Miles Morales came back for another multiversal adventure in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, with Miles noticeably older and more mature in the sequel. That was to be expected, as Miles had to quickly grow into the shoes of his universe's dead Peter Parker with the help of his friends to...
