How else do you start an album than with an Attack on Titan quote? With their opening track “The World is a Cruel Place… And It Is Also Very Beautiful” Europe’s Ankor proves that there is no better way. With brutal breakdowns, intricate storytelling, and catchy choruses, the band’s exciting rise has seen them take the metalcore world by storm, culminating with the release of their Shoganai mini-album in 2024. I got to chat with vocalist Jessie Williams and guitarist David Romeu about how anime permeates into their music, remixing some of their newer songs, creating their own story world, and of course their love of Attack on Titan . Can you tell me a little about your anime journey? How it started and where you are now? Are there genres you gravitate toward? What is your favorite anime series or movie of all time? Jessie : There was a...

Since its humble beginnings, anime has had a somewhat violent reputation. Although some series are comparatively tame, most anime are more violent than their Western counterparts. These savage anime series, like Solo Leveling, have become international icons. The isekai anime's second episode has more blood than some series do in their entirety.
Gore isn't necessary for an action scene to be more engaging. However, excessive carnage can leave a lasting impact on an audience. Certain scenes of Devilman Crybaby are so intense they are usually only viewed once. While not every action anime series needs to be grotesquely violent, certain anime aren't afraid of getting a little bloody.

The horror genre has not been universally held in high regard since its inception, often seen as sensational and problematic, sparking the ire of religious and political groups. This attitude toward the genre has softened to become more socially acceptable with time, but many big-name Hollywood actors have seemingly avoided participating in it throughout their careers. Or they, in the case of Brad Pitt (Cutting Class) and Tom Hanks (He Knows You're Alone), have made their major debut in the genre but quickly moved away from it. These early performances offer a fascinating glimpse at the actors in a genre they are not known for, and some are quite good. However, Kevin Costner managed to star in one embarrassingly bad horror film he would rather forget.

It’s not often Hollywood releases a classic romance in time for Valentine’s Day. This isn’t one of those moments — sorry, “Love Hurts,” I didn’t mean to get your hopes up — but it’s interesting to note how rarely the classic love stories actually get released in time for the busiest date night of the year. Imagine if most of the great Christmas movies premiered in April, and in December all we had was disposable pap like “Red One” and “Christmas With the Kranks.”
Of late, some of that pabulum has come in the form of films like “Argylle” and “Shotgun Wedding,” which combine the romantic-comedy and action genres in a desperate attempt to become a couple’s last-minute compromise. One of you wants to see a romance, one of you wants to see an action movie — let’s watch superficial people superficially flirt with each other...

The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame is an institution that dates back to 1997. With a physical location and museum in Fort Worth, Texas as well as a substantial online presence, the organization seeks to "honor those men and women who have shown excellence in the business and support of rodeo and the western lifestyle in Texas." If the 90s are coming back into style, then it’s time for a new era of Nickelodeon cartoons, and that’s exactly what the Paramount-owned network is providing. A western series called Kid Cowboy is described as the first original animated series Nickelodeon has ever developed for YouTube.
That description comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which noted that Kid Cowboy is available through a different show’s YouTube hub. The Nick Jr. hit Blaze and the Monster Machines has brought more than six million subscribers to a namesake YouTube channel, and Nick is harnessing that built-in audience to give Kid Cowboy a rip-roaring start.

Nickelodeon is moving beyond its classic TV roots by launching its first original animated series on YouTube. The show, Kid Cowboy, is made for preschoolers and introduces a futuristic world called Esperanza.
The story follows Kid Cowboy and his best friend, Luna, as they protect their community with the help of robot horses. Created by Grammy-nominated songwriter Freddy Wexler, the series also features music composed by Wexler and Grammy-winning producer Emilio Estefan.
Described as a fresh take on cowboy culture, Kid Cowboy is filled with diverse characters, flying robo-horses, and engaging music. Wexler called the show ‘a futuristic playground’ that reimagines what kids’ entertainment can be, especially in a world where streaming and short-form videos dominate.
The series made its debut on the Blaze and the Monster Machines YouTube channel, which has 6 million subscribers. Nickelodeon’s YouTube network, which the team built up in 2019, includes over 50 channels with 200 million combined subscribers.
The story follows Kid Cowboy and his best friend, Luna, as they protect their community with the help of robot horses. Created by Grammy-nominated songwriter Freddy Wexler, the series also features music composed by Wexler and Grammy-winning producer Emilio Estefan.

Netflix doesn’t know exactly when to stop with the live-action adaptations of anime. It’s almost like a curse for them or perhaps they intentionally ruin beloved series for our amusement. In 2021, they attempted to adapt Cowboy Bebop.
Cowboy Bebop had a particular niche to it. It blended several genres harmoniously, whether it was comedy or action. Being a neo-Western anime, it was already quite different from other anime. However, what captured our hearts were the complex themes and backstories.

It doesn’t come as a shocker that Netflix failed to do the live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop any justice, given that it’s already complicated to do a space-themed anything right.
Shinichiro Watanabe, the creator of Cowboy Bebop, didn’t anticipate just how bad it would be. He was a consultant for the series but was never involved directly. The creator couldn...

Charli Xcx and Beyoncé had two of the most impactful albums of 2024, making Brat and Cowboy Carter leaders in the race for the Album of The Year Grammy. Before her sixth studio album dropped this summer, Charli Xcx didn't get much recognition from the music industry. Her only number-one song is 2014's "Fancy," a collaboration with Iggy Azalea. While she still hasn't had a number one album - Brat was blocked by Taylor Swift's The Tortued Poets Department and Billie Eilish's Hit Me Hard and Soft - Brat became the album of the summer in 2024.
Cowboy Carter also saw massive success, debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 album charts. Unfortunately, despite having every one of her solo studio albums reach number one, Beyoncé has never won Album of The Year at the Grammys. It seemed likely she would win in 2023 when she was nominated for Renaissance, a defining album of 2022. However,...

Everyone knows Harrison Ford has a bit of a reputation in Hollywood, and no, we aren’t talking about his exceptional skills as an actor. Watching him in interviews, some might come to the conclusion that the veteran actor is shy and reserved when it comes to promoting his films and that he might have a bit of social anxiety. Harrison Ford would beg to differ, but more on that later. For now, let’s focus on how much of a badass the man is.

Though he's better known for creating prestige TV shows and movies, Taylor Sheridan has also played four characters in the projects he wrote. Before Taylor Sheridan wrote his shows and movies, Taylor Sheridan was an actor in his own right. He starred in a few notable projects, like Sons of Anarchy, where he played David Hale, and got quite a bit of experience in front of the camera. He's also used that experience in his own shows, as he's become one of many recurring actors in Sheridan's shows. Over the years, Sheridan has had small roles in four of his own movies and shows.
Most of Sheridan's shows include big casts filled with prominent actors, so his cameos can often fly under the radar. For example, the cast of Landman includes Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, and Demi Moore, and Sheridan is exceptionally skilled at securing big names to star in his projects.

One such character happens to be Cyborg Franky, who has been lighting up our days with his jokes and silly behavior, including his iconic ‘Suuuperrrr’ pose.

We discuss how Cowboy was ahead of its time, how The April Fools skates by on immense, charming chemistry, and how Tribute falters due to a stunted co-lead (sorry Robby Benson!).

Country voters in the Recording Academy have been friendly to outsiders. Artists like Pink, Kelly Clarkson and Bebe Rexha lassoed Grammy nominations in country categories in recent years and this year’s race for Best Country Album is led by genre newcomers. But will any of the country crashers score the trophy?
While the field features a stacked lineup, we can whittle down the list. Lainey Wilson just won this category with her smash “Bell Bottom Country,” so it’s unlikely voters go for her again so soon for “Whirlwind,” especially with the album’s late release giving it less time to build momentum. Chris Stapleton is a category favorite, so you might think he’d be the frontrunner for “Higher.” However, Stapleton was snubbed in a pretty important category: Best Country Song. That doesn’t mean he’s completely out of the running, it’s hard to envision him...

Stanley Kubrick helmed 13 full-length features throughout his career, six of which were war films. Full Metal Jacket is arguably his magnum opus with its jarring depiction of war from the frontline perspective.
Paramount+ is streaming Full Metal Jacket this December. This 1987 war drama was the last of Stanley Kubrick's films released during his lifetime. Kubrick also appeared in cameos sneaked into two scenes; the director played the voice of Sergeant Murphy during Cowboy Evans' (played by Arliss Howard) calls for reinforcements in the film's second half. Those scenes showed the characters' fortunes reversed, just like the tide of war's fickle swells. Among other themes, the movie explores human behavior's devolution to its most primal nature. Kubrick sidestepped questions about the meaning of the film, however, asserting the answer is nuanced and complex.

While the future of Horizon: An America Saga hangs in the balance, Kevin Costner is looking back at the frustrating journey of bringing his original western saga to the big screen, and he described it as one of the most painful experiences of his entire career. Costner wore many hats for Horizon (as well as his cowboy hat), as the Dances With Wolves star wrote, directed, produced, and starred in the movie, and its unreleased sequel, Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2.
In the foreword for the new book, "The Great Horizon: Photographing Kevin Costner's 'American Saga'" (via IndieWire), Costner reflected on the long and arduous journey of bringing his four-part western saga to life — a journey which is far from over. Costner described Horizon's story, of "the arduous journey of men and women from across America in pursuit of a dream," as one of the greatest narratives ever told.

Set in the rural landscapes of California and the storied grounds of Windsor Castle, The Cowboy and the Queen presents the heartwarming tale of two kindred spirits whose paths intersected due to a shared compassion for horses. Directed by Andrea Nevins, the 2023 documentary recounts the real-life friendship between Monty Roberts, a pioneer of humane horse training hailing from Salinas, and Queen Elizabeth II, the British monarch with a lifelong passion for the noble animals.

Coming a decade after Marah Strauch’s first feature “Sunshine Superman,” about Base jumping pioneer Carl Boenish (also an aerial cameraman), this new doc provides a thematically and stylistically overlapping companion piece.
Co-directed with Bryce Leavitt, it’s not quite so exhilarating or moving as its predecessor, perhaps because the central personality isn’t larger-than-life this time around. Still, one can hardly complain, as the pleasantly low-key Jennings earns his living doing activities that make the jaw drop — and they’re all onscreen here.
