Screen Film Summit: UK producers and financiers talk finance.
Producer Elizabeth Karlsen, speaking at the Screen Film Summit in London on Monday, revealed how experience, long-time industry relationships and “googling” were crucial in pulling together the finance for Todd Haynes’ New York-set lesbian love story Carol.
An adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 1952, New York-set novel The Price of Salt, the film stars Cate Blanchett as a wealthy woman in a loveless marriage who falls for a young shop girl, played by Rooney Mara.
“It’s a period, lesbian love story and that has a certain price tag in the marketplace, even though we eventually got an A-list cast of Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara on board, and that’s around $15m,” said Karlsen.
“To shoot a period film in New York, you’re going to be hard pressed to do it for less than $25m.”

He makes Venus look truly sinful. Cranach was Martin Luther's best man, and responsible for burning several supposed witches – so his infatuation with dangerous desire has a dark side. The movies persist in giving us an outdated view of women
Ed Helmore's welcome article further underlined the woeful position of women in the film industry ("The naked truth: Hollywood treats its women as second-class citizens", In Focus).
There are also still questions to be raised about the representation of women in films. In fact, women rarely appear as women – they appear as sex objects or as ersatz men – sometimes both at once.
I like a strong female lead as much as the next person, but so often that female acts and talks exactly like a man and is surrounded by men – though she is usually allowed to have sex with the male lead at the end of the movie. When can we acknowledge that women do interesting, thrilling, beautiful, unusual, brave and clever things without having to inhabit a "traditionally male" role? Worst of all, the man-woman has now become a cliche,...

The naked truth about Lil' Kim's mug these days is that it looks a little stretched. Turning up to perform at Hot 97's annual Summer Jam at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, Lil' Kim once again stoked speculation that she's had plastic surgery as she looks vastly different from the Hard Core hip-hopster who dominated the rap charts in the mid-'90s. The diminutive Mc, real name Kimberly Denise Jones, wore strappy high heels, red hot pants and a black brassiere and corset top with sheer sleeves along with gold chains during her brief surprise set. While Lil' Kim's stunning transformation has come under media scrutiny since she first stepped out with her new look in March,...

Monday's edition of NBC's Today explored "fat sex" and the misconceptions about fat people and their sexuality with Rebecca Jane Weinstein, the large-sized author of Fat Sex: The Naked Truth. Weinstein characterized the subject as a "provocative," explaining that it is important to counter the widely-held beliefs that "large-sized people are unattractive to everyone, that they're asexual, that they're not interested in sex." "The truth of the matter is," she explained, "there's no difference between large-sized people, small-sized people -- as far as sex goes. Everybody is interested in what they're interested in."...

However, it did grab 952k (5.2%) on +1 and become the most-watched multichannel programme of the night. Elsewhere for Channel 4, 8pm's Gok's Teens: The Naked Truth took 880k (3.7%) and Shameless earned 1.54m (more)...

Every answer leads to more questions on Pretty Little Liars. But eventually, we've been promised, we'll find out the identity of A. And that best be the truth for once!
"The Naked Truth" had an interesting premise: every major character is locked in the school overnight and forced to interact. While the whole plot seemed a little contrived, it did lead to a lot of drama and one big revelation. Unfortunately, that revelation had little to do with what we learned last week about Ali's alter-ego.
By the time the "lock-in" started, Emily had a grudge against her principal; Hanna was the most hated girl in school; Spencer was confused by Jason's return; and Aria thought Holden was using/dealing drugs (plus, she was blinding people with those hideously fluorescent shoes!). The atmosphere was ripe for dramatic confrontations and the show did not disappoint. Again, there was a lot going on,...

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 2, Episode 19 of "Pretty Little Liars," entitled, "The Naked Truth."
Pursed lips abound when Kate, Hanna and their moms sit, waiting to speak to the vice principal about the photo debacle that closed out last week's episode.
Meanwhile, Spencer, Emily and Aria are standing around a red trenchoat, which is what Ali's claim ticket was for. It's not something Ali would wear (because she is not Carmen San Diego), but maybe Vivian Blackwood would, they surmise.
"Can I touch it?" Aria asks. To which, Spencer replies: "Yeah. It's a raincoat, Aria. Not a mummy."
The girls talk about how Kate's mom is threatening to sue Hanna for the step-sister sexting situation and then Aria checks the coat pockets and what do you know -- there's a phone number written on a crumpled up piece of paper with no name and no other info.

Hanna will find herself in big trouble this Monday night on Pretty Little Liars.
That's a major shock, we know.
In this case, the tormented, gorgeous young student will end up in the principal's office as a result of the letter she sent to Kate, although we all know she didn't really send it, of course. But let's give credit to Ashley in one of the following sneak peeks, as she actually sits her daughter down finally and tries to learn more about this alleged frame job.
Elsewhere, Emily will attempt to voice an honest opinion... but get shot down. Harshly. Check out a trio of clips from "The Naked Truth" now.

How I Met Your Mother: Are Ewoks Good or Bad?
How I Met Your Mother continues its streak of solid episodes with “Field Trip,” but unfortunately also continues the less than funny plot of Robin and her psychiatrist. This has been a running problem for Robin for the last few seasons. The writers just can’t nail down a good match for Robin, and it’s starting to wear thin. I give this stint with Kal Penn’s therapist character a little bit of slack, because it is so clear Robin is only dating him to keep her mind off Barney and Nora’s blossoming relationship. It’s a defense mechanism, just a really boring one.
Speaking of Barney and Nora, that storyline yielded some great results. One of the big issues with pairing Barney with someone is the fear he’ll lose what makes him such an awesome character.

How I Met Your Mother: The Return of Victoria
If How I Met Your Mother’s goal this season is to return to the glory days of the series, circa 2006, then so far it’s succeeding, gloriously. “The Ducky Tie” used one of Himym’s most familiar story settings: the group goes somewhere, and someone has a story to tell. We essentially get two stories without the fivesome ever physically leaving the scene. In this particular instance, Barney makes a bet with Lily and Marshal, while Ted recounts his reunion with Victoria.
I want to save Ted’s story for last, so let’s jump into the bet. I admit I was ogling Lily’s breasts (shameful, I know) just seconds before they were brought up in the show. The bet made is one of Himym sillier plots, but it’s balanced out nicely by Ted’s more grounded and touching story.

On Monday night's new episode of How I Met Your Mother, the gang tries to come up with the ex-girlfriend that Ted reunited with on "The Naked Truth."
Was it the girl who gave him throw pillows? The girl he allegedly had a threesome with? The options are aplenty, and the gang runs through them all in the following sneak peek.
Then, Lily and Barney agree to a wager that makes the meaning of the installment itself clear: Ducky Tie. Watch both clips now:

I hope those terrified looks aren't an indication of the entire season
Last night, we were treated to not one, but Two new episodes of How I Met Your Mother – and, despite one major surprise (I'll get to that later), the show didn't break new ground. The one thing I have learned from the past six seasons of this show is that the writers are good at keeping us invested in this guessing game. Ultimately, the Himym has become the Lost of half-hour sitcoms, but instead of a mysterious island, the audience is trying to crack the code of the mysterious mother.
When we last left the Himym gang, Ted (Josh Radnor) just broke up with his girlfriend and was on his way to being a great architect, Lily and Marshall (Alyson Hannigan and Jason Segel) just found out they had a baby on the way, Barney (Neil Patrick Harris...

How I Met Your Mother Comes In Strong
If I were to describe my feelings leading up to the premiere How I Met Your Mother’s seventh season in one word, I would use “concerned.” Himym has reached the point in a series’ life where it becomes hard to maintain a standard of quality. No show is immune to this, and we began to see wear and tear all the way back in Season 5. Season 6 picked up a bit, but there were still plenty of low-grade episodes. Now going in to Season 7, I wondered if the show could find itself again, or continue down the slippery slope of fragmentation.
The premiere was two back-to-back episodes, and already I have high hopes for this season. You can tell Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are gearing up to finally end the series (the show was picked up for two more seasons last...

Will Robin and Barney Get back together this season 7 on "How I Met Your Mother?"
Ted, Marshall, Barney, Robin and Lily are back and after last season’s (spoiler) finale left us at Barney’s wedding it is time to find out just what that was all about. In typical How I Met Your Mother fashion it left us with a nice story within a story. In the first of the 1-hour premiere titled “The Best Man” we pick up at the wedding where Ted goes to visit Barney upon request. The bride remains mysterious but given how this episode ends it might lead to the biggest surprise ever on the show for a later date but more about that in a minute. When visiting they [Ted and Barney] reminisce about Punchy’s wedding and how Marshall ruined it hilariously announcing that he and Lily are having a baby.

Danielle Staub may not have to worry any longer about Kevin Maher's defamation suit now that they've settled. But the allegations contained in her autobiography, The Naked Truth, could still land her back in court.
