A nice overview of the great man's life and work.

This biographical film about Dr. Albert Schweitzer is unusual in that the great man helped to make the film and you see footage of him doing his work in Gabon in French Equitorial Africa. Apparently three different versions were made...in French, English and German languages. According to IMDB, the German version is quite different though I'm not sure how. I found it on YouTube.

The story is narrated by Burgess Meredith and the words of Schweitzer are spoken by Frederic March. The visuals in the story consists of photos, drawings, and film footage in both his native Alsace (now part of France) as well as in Africa. You also, a few times, hear Schweitzer himself speak in his native French (though he was also fluent in German).

This is a nice overview of the man and his life. And, since he was actively involved in making this film, it's more an autobiography than biography. Well worth seeing, although I must also admit it's a bit dry.
