Doc Holliday is one of the most interesting men in the history of the Western genre. A dentist-turned-gambler-turned-gunfighter, his real-life story has been fictionalized through countless portrayals in film and TV. Throughout the years, Doc has been portrayed in a wide variety of ways, ranging from the cold and calculating to the charming and unpredictable.
Among the many actors who have taken on the role, Val Kilmer and Adam West stand out for their takes on the character, even though they played him decades apart. Kilmer’s portrayal in Tombstone remains one of the most iconic, playing Doc as a brilliant and witty man battling tuberculosis. West, on the other hand, took on the role in the late 1950s and early 1960s in a series of TV Westerns, bringing a more classic version of the gunslinger. Despite these differences, both actors made their portrayals memorable, adding to the character's legendary status in the Western genre.

In 1950, Randolph Scott starred in the classic Western Colt .45, which followed gun salesman Steve Farrell as he gets into a heap of trouble after a gunfighter escapes from prison. While the film is notable largely due to Scott's performance (and the fact that they use the wrong caliber despite the title), Colt .45 found new life on television a few years later. Though the projects both share a name and familiar premise, they couldn't be more different. In the series, Wayde Preston starred as undercover agent Christopher Colt, who poses as a gun salesman to travel the Wild West in search of new villains to capture. And boy, this one was a good time.

Alec Baldwin is finally standing trial for involuntary manslaughter in New Mexico nearly three years after the customized Colt .45 he held on the set of the indie Western Rust shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in March. She was also charged with evidence tampering, but the split verdict she received lowered the three-year prison sentence she faced; she is now serving 18 months in a New Mexico state prison.
Baldwin first appeared at Santa Fe’s First Judicial District Courthouse for the trial on Monday for a pre-trial hearing, followed by jury selection Tuesday.

Nearly three years after the customized Colt .45 in Alec Baldwin’s hand fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the New Mexico set of the indie Western Rust, the actor’s involuntary manslaughter trial has begun.
With a jury seated July 9 in Santa Fe, Baldwin’s trial follows the successful prosecution earlier this year of Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the 27-year-old daughter of legendary movie gunman Thell Reed. A relatively inexperienced armorer also working in the props department on the low-budget film, she was found guilty in March of involuntary manslaughter but not guilty of tampering with evidence and sentenced to 18 months in a New Mexico state prison on April 15.
Having entered a not guilty plea shortly after he was recharged this past January, Baldwin will be in Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer’s courtroom every day of the trial beginning today with jury selection.

Who doesn't love Tombstone? It's one of the most beloved Westerns of the modern era. And if you're a fan, you can undoubtedly quote most, if not all, of the lines delivered with scene-stealing flair by Val Kilmer in what's become the definitive portrayal of gambling gunslinger Doc Holliday. You may know every scene in this movie like the back of your hand, but today we've collected 10 Things You Never Knew About Tombstone. And you may walk away pleasantly surprised and shocked.
Tombstone boasts one of the most formidable macho ensembles imaginable: Kurt Russell, Sam Elliott, Bill Paxton, Powers Boothe, Michael Biehn, as well as smaller roles for Michael Rooker, Thomas Haden Church, Stephen Lang, Billy Zane, Jason Priestly, Billy Bob Thornton, and Terry O'Quinn. So let's get into it, shall we?

It's with great sorrow that I report fan-favorite Batman star Adam West has passed away. He was 88 years old and he died after a short battle with leukemia. His family offered the following statement:
“Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He was and always will be our hero."
A spokesperson for the actor added:
“A true American icon and beloved father and husband, he will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and millions of fans around the world."
I grew up watching reruns of the original 1960's Batman series and I've always enjoyed seeing him pop up in other films and TV shows over the years. It's so sad to hear that he's passed on, but he's left behind a legacy of greatness.

Last week during CinemaCon, the banner for MGM's highly-anticipated The Magnificent Seven debuted, giving us our first look at the all-star cast. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait much longer for even more images, with USA Today revealing the first official photos, along with the news that the first trailer is set to debut Wednesday, April 20. The site also spoke with director Antoine Fuqua, who shed some light on how this incredible cast came together.
The original 1960 Western classic directed by John Sturges featured an ensemble cast including Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn and James Coburn, centering on a group of gunslingers hired by a Mexican village to stop a tyrannical bandit from terrorizing their town. The remake's cast is just as impressive, lead by Denzel Washington, who is collaborating with director Antoine Fuqua for the third time, following the critically-acclaimed Training Day and The Equalizer.

When Dustin informed me of Pajiba's films of the 1980s retrospective, I was a little ambivalent to write on one of the first films I remember seeing theaters, Tim Burton's Batman (1989; I think the honor for the first film I saw in a theater was Who Framed Roger Rabbit). First, Burton's iconic film has been a defining element of our culture, inspiring a glut of thoughtful, scholarly analysis (two of my favorite texts are the anthology The Many Lives of Batman and Will Brooker's Batman Unmasked); how can one approach the film with a fresh perspective? Secondly, I've been living and breathing comic books for years now, particularly Batman titles, so I was a little burned out when it came to thinking and writing about the film. Thanks a lot, Christopher Nolan! Yet, I realized that my runner-up title, the seldom seen but incredibly funny Ruthless People (1986), didn't quite do the retrospective justice.
