Euro Spy Classic with Ken CLARK

EuroSpy classic with Ken Clark as Agent 077

This Italian-Spanish-French co-production, also known as "Agente 077 dall'oriente con furore" and "From the orient with Fury", was directed by Sergio Grieco and was released in West German cinemas on October 22, 1965 . The film is part of the EuroSpy series, which was created across Europe in response to the phenomenal success of the James Bond films since "From Russia with Love" (1963).

The focus here is on FBI agent 077 named Dick Malloy (referred to as Jack Clifton only in German-speaking countries), who is experiencing his second of three film adventures. The jack-of-all-trades is played by the American actor Ken Clark (1927-2009), who, after appearing alongside Maciste actor Mark Forest in "Die Höllenhunde des Dschinghis Khan / The Hounds of Hell of Genghis Khan" (1963) and "Die Vernichtung des Dschinghis Khan / The Destruction of Genghis Khan" (1964), finally made it to the stage became the main actor. With good looks, strong muscles and a lush, hairy chest, Ken Clark could definitely compete with Sean Connery (1930-2020) when it comes to action and wearing women.

What's it about? Our super agent must track down the kidnapped inventor (Ennio Balbo) of a super weapon, the possession of which would ensure world domination for a super villain (Franco Ressel). To do this, good Malloy has to rush from location to location (Paris, Madrid, Istanbul), where he gets to know very attractive women (Evi Marandi, Fabienne Dali, Mikaela). But the winner is the charming British actress Margaret Lee (often cast together with Klaus Kinski, including in "Our Man in Marrakech" (1966)) as Evelyn Stone (pay attention to the carpet scene), who is behind a Marilyn Monroe really wouldn't have to hide.

In addition to the many affairs that a good-looking, radiant man like Ken Clark seems to be able to master with all his might, the well-kept fights are also not neglected. The muscular Ken Clark is allowed to do a good job repeatedly. One of the whipping boys is the indestructible Claudio Ruffini, who would later be severely beaten by Bud Spencer (e.g. As "Fettbacke / Fat Jaw" in "Charleston" (1977)). The most beautiful beating scene in this film takes place in a Madrid bar after the appearance of the Spanish singer Mikaela, as Fernando Sancho (also alongside Antonio Sabato in "Fünf Klumpen Gold" (1972) and alongside Brad Harris in "Zwei tolle Käfer räumen auf / Two Great Beetles Clean Up" (1978 ) to see) as a restaurant visitor is drawn into the turbulent and well worth seeing events.

This film is a successful example of the EuroSpy wave with an attractive leading actor, beautiful women, great locations and humorous action scenes. Highly recommended!

Thrilling and entertaining Euro-spy film co-produced by Spain/France/Italy , being ordinarily directed by Sergio Grieco

Mid-sixties Istambul comes across as very European locations and serve as an excellent backdrop for most of the action . The plot was a satisfying mix of set pieces and unexpected plot twists . An agreeable all action sixties Euro-nostalgia trip , being fast paced and rightly developed . The film concerns about an American agent called Dick Malloy (Ken Clark) assigned by CIA Chief Heston (Philippe Hersent) to save an abducted scientific named Kurtz (Ennio Balbo) who has invented a weapon capable of disintegrating solid matter . The scientist is kidnapped by a tyrant criminal band led Goldwyn (Franco Ressel) , which intends to sell the scientist to the highest bidder and his disintegrating artifact to best auction . In the course of the investigation , Dick meets beautiful women as Romy Kurtz (Evi Marandi) and Dolores (Mikaela) , who will help him find the professor . Along the way , Malloy travels various countries as France , Spain and Turkey to find out clues about the scientist taken by the mean kidnappers . Shortly after , Dick Malloy and the scientist's daughter , Romy , set out to track down the abducting and rescue the scientist located at a hot island . But Russian agents equally will go to an island to free the scientist .

¨From Orient with Fury¨ or ¨Agent 077 operation Istanbul¨ is a Spanish-Italian co-production about secret agents very usual by that time of the 60s . The origin results to be the ¨James Bond¨ series that caused an authentic flood of copies , imitations and rip offs , each time more awful . With the explosion of ¨007 agent¨ on to the movie world in the early 60's and particularly : ¨James Bond against Dr No¨ and ¨From Russia with Love¨ (Terence Young) , every producer attempted to duplicate that exciting genre . This multinational effort is relatively amusing as well as fast paced and doesn't take itself too seriously . Fun and moving snapshot in time and place in which a secret agent undertaking dangerous missions , at the same time falling in love with gorgeous girls . One of the main main attractions of this picture is the continuous and rapid action . It keeps stirring , covering a great number of locals , such as gambling clubs , casinos , hotel pools , boats, ferries public , auctions gallery , public baths , and involves a lot of brawls and fights . Moving film in which there are nail-biting action scenes , intrigue , blasts , suspenseful set pieces and mediocre European stars , if not much continuity . While obviously not having the budget of ¨007¨ movies it does its best to exploit the Madrid , Paris and Istanbul scenery . An action-filled European thriller flick in which the brave protagonist falls in love for attractive women and there are some thrilling chases along the way before the final takes a slight twist . So-so thriller that follows the exploits and moving adventures of a rogue secret agent , the Muscular American actor Ken Clark , a former model, he appeared in 'tough' western roles under contract to 20th Century Fox and then had a solid run as the second lead of several low-budget, cult science-fiction films in the 1950's ; he , subsequently , moved to Italy during the 60's to star in spaghetti westerns and sword and sandal epics . As he starred all kind of movies as "Hercules Against the Barbarians" , ¨Maciste against Mongols¨, ¨Charada international¨ , ¨Operation Lady Chaplin¨ , ¨Desert commando¨ , ¨The road to Fort Alamo¨ and ¨Ringo of Nebraska¨. Sympathetic acting by Ken Clark as a type of James Bond as well as a young and adventurous seducer stunningly accompanied by the really charming women as Margaret Lee , Evi Marandi and Mikaela . In the picture appears habitual actors of co-productions and being a Spanish production here shows up several notorious secondaries as Tomás Blanco , Lorenzo Robledo , Mikaela and the great Fernando Sancho , Spaghetti Western ordinary . And Italian actors , customary actors of this kind of genres , Spaghetti or Eurospy as Franco Ressel , Luciano Pigozzi , Pasquale Basile , among others . Evocative cinematography by Juan Julio Baena , including the exotic '60s atmosphere , though a perfect remastering is necessary , because the film copy is washed-out . Being shot in Paris , Madrid ,Istambul that are widely and marvelously shown . Lively and catching musical score by Piero Piccioni , though including dated songs from the 60s . The picture has action packed , suspense , tension, thriller but with lackluster and no much budget . The film is fast movement besides it is developed in various scenarios though specially on Istambul and the hot island . However the movie is a bit boring and there are situations and images that are ridiculous and embarrassing .

This fast paced and action filled European spy flick was regularly directed by Sergio Grieco , he often used the pseudonym Terence Hathaway who directed several films in diverse genres , as adventures and action , especially . Sergio was a craftsman who made all kinds of genres as Thriller and Eurospy movies : ¨The beast with a gun¨ , ¨Rififí in Ámsterdam¨ ¨Charada international¨ , ¨Operation Lady Chaplin¨, ¨Assault to England Crown¨ , ¨Operation Mogador¨ ; Adventure and historical : ¨Sargento Klems¨ , ¨Una Spada Per l'impero¨ , ¨Julio Caesar against pirates¨ ¨Salambo¨ , ¨Le Notti Di Lucrezia Borgia¨ , ¨La Regina Dei Tartari¨, ¨Il Capitano Di Ferro¨ , ¨Il Diavolo Nero¨ , ¨Lo Spadaccino Misterioso¨ and Nunsexploitation : ¨The sinful nuns of Saint Valentine¨. Rating: Average but entertaining .

THE BEST EURO-SPY FROM THE MID 1960s

I saw this movie, in Italian, several times in the late 1960s. Then several times on TV in English and now there is a fabulous DVD available to enjoy. This movie has lots of gadget, gals and action for any Spy fan. Ken Clark is believable as the indestructible secret agent, especially when he has a vast array of beautiful women to work through. Margaret Lee and Michaela are worthy partners for 6'4" Ken. When Ken Clark wasn't filming movies in Europe, he would "see the sights on his motorcycle, with fellow actor Dan Vadis". In this film he jumps on a cycle a few times, as part of the story line. The only thing I always hated about this movie was that Ken takes forever to kill off the bad henchmen. If you want to see great spy action, this is a must see film. Larry Anderson.

The Second Film in the Agent 077 Franchise

This film essentially begins with a scientist by the name of "Professor Franz Kurtz" (Ennio Balbo) inventing a new destructive weapon known as a disintegration ray which is capable of completely obliterating anything in its range. Needless to say, this draws the intense interest of a number of governments which will pay quite a sum of money to get their hands on it. So, when he is abducted in Istanbul by an unknown group, the United States sends its best secret agent named "Dick Malloy" (Ken Clark) to Europe to follow what few clues there might be in order to rescue him. Interestingly enough, Professor Kurtz's daughter "Romy Kurtz" (Evi Marandi) not only has little information to give to him, but she seems to prefer Russian interests over that of America. Fortunately, Agent Malloy has a way of attracting attention and the same group who kidnapped Professor Kurtz have no interest in allowing him to conduct his investigation without making their presence known. Now, rather than reveal any more, I will just say that this was an okay European clone of the highly popular James Bond films during this particular period of time. It does not, however, have quite the same sophistication or intensity of its more famous competitor and I have rated it accordingly. Average.
