Quentin Tarantino's New Beverly Cinema is showing a film festival dedicated to the movies of Man From U.N.C.L.E. stars Robert Vaughn and David McCallum. Tonight and tomorrow, there is a double feature of Vaughn's "The Venetian Affair" (in Ib Tech!)  and McCallum's "Sol Madrid". "The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 8 Movie Collection" is available on Amazon USA for only $29.49. The set consists of the the two-part episodes that originally aired on TV and which were later released as theatrical feature films. Of the eight films, only three were released in the United States. In some cases, additional footage with new characters were inserted into the episodes for theatrical distribution.

For those of you that were kids or teenagers during the 1990s and were into cult TV, you will know that The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was a staple of Friday nights.

Although it was made in the 1960s, during the 1990s, BBC2 would show the likes of Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and Stingray at 6pm on a Friday night, and each time they would be followed by an episode of The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

As such, the phrase “Open channel six”, the catchy theme and the agents’ yellow triangular badges signifying their rank in the organisation became very familiar...

Thanks for the identification of Claudia Cardinale in the masthead. I've always wondered about the guy on the left. Who is it? I sometimes think it looks like Sean Connery, but I can only think of one Western he was in. Any help appreciated!

Turner Classic Movies (North America) will present back-to-back showings of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. feature films To Trap a Spy and The Spy With My Face starring Robert Vaughn and David McCallum tomorrow (Thursday) morning beginning at 6:00 Am (Est). The two films were released in 1966 by MGM as a double feature that scored tremendous box-office success internationally. Following the U.N.C.L.E. films, TCM will show a Herman's Hermits double feature comprising of Hold On! and Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter. Doesn't get any better than this for retro movie lovers- and remember TCM is now being broadcast on a separate channel in Hi Def- so check your cable guides.
