The adorable fawn from Disney's canon is no more. Now he's transformed into a mutated and monstrous beast on a roaring rampage of revenge.
In the latest movie from the minds behind Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, Bambi has become a terrifyingly feral creature with no problem brutally killing people in part of his quest for vengeance after his mother is killed. Variety shared the first trailer for Bambi: The Reckoning on Wednesday. You can watch the video embedded above.
The story of Bambi didn't actually originate in the 1942 Disney film, instead coming from the Austrian novel Bambi, a Life in the Woods by Felix Salten, which is in the public domain. Bambi: The Reckoning is one of many recently released public domain horror titles. It is also part of the Twisted Childhood Universe (Tcu) created by Rhys Frake-Waterfield and Scott Chambers.

It's hard not to love a good fan theory, because sometimes they're absolutely bonkers while actually having some pretty salient points. Fan theories have been around since long before the internet, of course, with theories about the potential eighth passenger on The Minnow on "Gilligan's Island" dating back to at least the 1960s, but the world wide web has made it much easier for fans to develop and share their theories. Anyone with a wild take can head to social media and proliferate it, which means we are in an era of some truly fascinating fan theories. One of the most unique connects Stephen King's terrifying monstrous clown Pennywise from "It" to a beloved character from a Disney classic, and while it sounds ludicrous at first, it's really not all that far-fetched. At the very least, it's not any more far-fetched than the idea that Jesus Christ was an Engineer in the "Alien" movies,...

Dick Van Dyke is almost a centenarian, as the movie and TV star will reach his milestone 100th birthday in less than a year. Opening up about his age in a new interview, the beloved funnyman shared his secret to life longevity.
Van Dyke made the comments on Ted Danson's podcast, Where Everybody Knows Your Name (per THR). He said that staying so spry as he approaches age 100 comes down to maintaining a consistent exercise routine. This means working out three times per week, a habit that he has kept up with, even after turning 99 in December.

For a race that seemed as unpredictable as any in recent history, the 2025 Oscar nominations came and went without many huge surprises. All the expected acting contenders — including frontrunners like Demi Moore, Adrien Brody, Timothée Chalamet, Zoe Saldaña, and Kieran Culkin — were bestowed with nominations on Thursday, as were several films long predicted to score Best Picture recognition. But while the 97th Oscars were perhaps shorter than usual on snubs and surprises, the list of nominees did clarify which films Academy voters truly loved and what might ultimately win Best Picture in March. Ahead are the key takeaways from the 2025 Oscar nominations.
Emilia Pérez is the front-runner to beat
With 13 Oscar nominations on Thursday, including Best Picture, Best International Feature, Best Director, and acting nominations for Karla Sofia Gascón and Zoe Saldaña, Emilia Pérez is not just the year’s top Oscar contender but one of the most decorated nominees in history.

As we wrap an epic day of coverage of the Oscar nominations, here are some final observations:
—It’s ironic that there will be no Best Song performances at this year’s 97th Academy Awards, because music-driven movies have rarely, if ever, made such an impact. This is the first time that three music-oriented/musical films have been nominated for Best Picture in the same year: Emilia Pérez (with its chart-topping 13 nominations), Wicked (with its 10), and the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown (with eight). The last times that even two musicals faced off for Oscar’s biggest prize was in 1964 with My Fair Lady and Mary Poppins and in 1968 with winner Oliver! and Funny Girl.
—Emilia Pérez snared more noms than any foreign language film ever with 13, to lead all comers Thursday. It joins an impressive list of other 13-time Oscar nominees that includes The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,...

In case anyone needed a reminder that “Film Twitter” and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are not populated by the same people, Emilia Pérez, the polarizing French-directed, Spanish-language musical about a trans Mexican gangster, landed a field-leading 13 Oscar nominations on Thursday morning. That tally — encompassing noms for best picture, director, actress, supporting actress, adapted screenplay, international feature, cinematography, film editing, makeup/hairstyling, original score, sound and two for original song — smashed the record for a non-English-language film (previously held by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Roma, which had 10 each) and is just one shy of the all-time record for any film (All About Eve, Titanic and La La Land each landed 14).
Is Jacques Audiard’s Netflix film unbeatable? Of course not. Plenty of people have issues with the film, including many members of the Mexican and trans communities, who find it offensive, and critics and general audiences,...

Despite their efforts to stop her, the heroes were ultimately thwarted in Castlevania: Nocturne's season 1 ending.

Mad Max is a very different franchise now than when it started in 1979; George Miller’s post-apocalyptic saga has evolved a lot over the years. The first Mad Max movie was a microbudget production pulled off on a wing and a prayer, while the most recent entry was a mega-budget blockbuster with the backing of a major studio. Mad Max is perhaps the most unlikely hit franchise in Hollywood history — it’s shamelessly weird and unrelentingly dark.
Over the course of its 45-year history, Mad Max has undergone plenty of changes. The scale has gotten bigger, the colors have gotten more vibrant, and the title character has been recast — and Mad Max is still going strong, at least creatively. These are the biggest evolutions in the Mad Max franchise.
Max Rockatansky Has Been Recast
In the original Mad Max trilogy, the titular role of Max Rockatansky was played by Mel Gibson.

In a year where clear frontrunners have been slow to emerge, the Golden Globes offered crucial hints about which films and performances might emerge to lead awards season. Demi Moore appears to be the new best actress frontrunner after her win for “The Substance” in the best actress in a musical or comedy feature category.
The body horror thriller, written and directed by Coralie Fargeat, premiered at Cannes, where it was acquired by Mubi. It has maintained momentum as a critical darling. Moore’s victory on Sunday night over Mikey Madison (“Anora”), Karla Sofía Gascón (“Emilia Pérez”) and Cynthia Erivo (“Wicked”) is the type of moment that can shift the awards race just as Oscar ballots are set to go out later this week.

On December 13, 1925, one of the world’s greatest comic actors was born. Dick Van Dyke‘s Missouri family was of modest means, but the young man decided early to carve out a career on show business as a comedian. During his senior year, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force, where he met a colleague who worked at CBS, who recommended him to the network, which was so pleased with the young comic that they signed him to a seven-year contract.
But Van Dyke’s first love was performing on stage, and he got his big break as songwriter Albert Peterson in the new musical “Bye Bye Birdie,” for which he won the Tony Award as Best Featured Actor in a Musical. Shortly thereafter, CBS put into development with Carl Reiner what was to become “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” which premiered in 1961 and went on to become...

Dick Van Dyke is the star of Coldplay’s music video for the band’s latest single, “All My Love,” which sees the 98-year-old Hollywood legend dancing barefoot and duetting with frontman Chris Martin.
Directed by Spike Jonze and Mary Wigmore, the seven-minute video is more like a short film as Van Dyke — who turns 99 on Dec. 13 — reflects on his nearly eight-decade career. The Golden Globe, Tony and Emmy winner is best known for starring in the movie musicals “Bye Bye Birdie,” “Mary Poppins” and “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” — and he proves in the “All My Love” music video that he still has the moves that made him famous. At one point, he even breaks out his signature bowler hat.
Shot at Van Dyke’s Malibu home, the video interweaves footage of Van Dyke, his family and Martin in his backyard with archival photographs and interview clips. “I’m acutely...

Walt Disney was the producer and studio mogul who pioneered in the field of animation, proving it could be used for more than just creating amusing shorts for kids. Let’s take a look back at all 19 animated features produced during his lifetime or that he personally worked on, ranked worst to best.
After years producing amusing shorts, most of them staring a lovable mouse named Mickey (voiced by Walt himself), Disney broke new ground with the first feature length animated film: “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (1937). Both a radical experiment in filmmaking and a revolution in storytelling, it proved cartoons were a viable means of artistic expression. Russian director Sergei Eisenstein, in fact, called it the greatest movie ever made, no small praise for the man who made “Battleship Potemkin” (1925).
With each subsequent feature — “Pinocchio” (1940), “Fantasia” (1940), “Dumbo” (1941), and “Bambi” (1942) — Disney and his team of animators refined their visual and narrative techniques,...

As a genre, movie musicals have had some serious ups and downs throughout Hollywood history. Right now, they definitely seem to be on an upswing, especially now that the long-awaited "Wicked" movie blew everyone away at the box office — and it was only the first half of the musical to boot.
In recent years, movie musicals like "Wonka," "Mean Girls," "The Greatest Showman," "La La Land," and even the filmed stage version of "Hamilton" have become enormous hits, though critical reception has been decidedly mixed across these projects. So what are the best musicals ever according to the official Rotten Tomatoes ranking of movie musicals? Only three musicals earned 100% ratings on the review aggregate, which is — I have to say — a little surprising, largely because some all-time classics apparently missed the cut. For example, "The Sound of Music" and the original "West Side Story" only earned 83% and 92%, respectively, despite being two staples of the genre,...

One might think, looking at the above headline, that this will be an article about the legendary composer John Williams, but that is not the case. Williams, perhaps shockingly, has only won five Oscars in his decades-long career, specifically for "Fiddler on the Roof," "Jaws," "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope," "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," and "Schindler's List." The famed composer, however, has been nominated for more Oscars than anyone in history (save for one), having been recognized 54 times since 1968. Williams' most recent nomination was for "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny."
Others might also think of director John Ford or actor Katharine Hepburn as the most decorated talents in Oscars history, but they each only have four wins to their names. To be fair, winning four Oscars in one's field is still a huge achievement. Also, Ford holds the record as the most awarded director, and Hepburn the most awarded actor.

In an era where CGI animation dominates the market, it is refreshing to see something different, even if it’s not something particularly new. The fans loved what Dreamworks did with The Puss in Boots 2 and The Wild Robot, while the recently released Over the Garden Wall special reminded us how animated movies can be done without a lot of CGI.
In light of this, a group of animators is currently working on a project titled Light of the World, which is set to hit theaters next summer. The project is funded by The Salvation Poem Project, and it involves former Disney employees.
The movie is a 2D animated Biblical story of Jesus told through the eyes of his teenage disciple, John, who is the principal character of the movie. The Salvation Poem Project has recently released the first teaser for the upcoming movie, which shows what it will all look like next summer.

Paddington In Peru is the third movie in the hugely beloved Paddington series, and the sequel follows the titular bear as he travels home to Peru with his adoptive family, the Browns. Just like the films that came before it, Paddington in Peru is a hugely touching and heartwarming adventure about friendship and found family that takes all the stylish strengths of the original two films and reinstates them in a new location with fun, fresh characters. The story of Paddington in Peru is somewhat familiar, but its the family-friendly charm that makes it another smash hit.
Naturally, much of Paddington in Peru was actually filmed in Peru, and the country plays a huge role in the story. Its Paddingtons homeland, and this movie spends a lot of time exploring the characters backstory and bringing the English characters far away from the comfort of London. Its a nice change from...

Before it became an Oscar-winning movie, My Fair Lady was a Broadway stage musical starring a young Julie Andrews. However, if Andrews had played Eliza Doolittle on screen, she might not have had the opportunity to take on one of her most iconic roles: Mary Poppins. When the musical was adapted into a movie, Andrews was passed over for the lead in favor of movie star Audrey Hepburn, even though Hepburns singing voice was dubbed over.
In the same year as her My Fair Lady disappointment, Walt Disney offered Andrews the chance to lead the cast of Mary Poppins, his upcoming musical project. My Fair Lady and Mary Poppins were both huge hits in 1964, competing against each other in major Oscar categories, although not Best Actress. Over time, Mary Poppins garnered a more lasting impact on pop culture, remaining one of Julie Andrews' best movies from her incredible career that would go on for decades.

From the mid-1950s through the early 1970s, many lavish Broadway musicals were successfully adapted to film, from “The King and I” to “West Side Story” to “Cabaret.” One of the most successful and enduring of all time premiered on October 21, 1964, when “My Fair Lady” hit the theaters after much anticipation, drawing people to the box office in droves despite its lengthy near-three-hour run time. Read on for more about the “My Fair Lady” 60th anniversary.
The origin of “My Fair Lady” dates back farther than the 1956 Tony-winning play. Music collaborators Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe were inspired by George Bernard Shaw’s 1913 play “Pygmalion,” the tale of Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle who takes speech lessons from Professor Henry Higgins in order to pass as a “proper lady.” The two men thought it would be “loverly” to turn the story into a musical, and wrote the book for “My Fair Lady,...

He Probably Could Have Sued Us: The Simpsons Producer Reflects On Writing Mary Poppins Song Parodies
The Simpsons easily could have been sued for its depiction of Mary Poppins, but a friendly creative saved them. Mary Poppins first appeared on the show in the form of her parody character, Shari Bobbins, in season 8, episode 13, "Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(Annoyed Grunt)cious". Shari attempts to improve the family's relationship and work ethic by singing songs and teaching them cleaning strategies. The episode was a success, and, as The Simpsons awaits its season 37 renewal, its producers have been considering its long history.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant about season 36, producer and writer Al Jean opened up about his favorite songs from the show's run. In particular, he cited the "Feed the Birds" parody, "A Boozehound Named Barney". While he was proud of the song, he reflected that they easily could have been sued, if not for Richard Sherman's love for the episode and the song. Check out his...

Disney gained its reputation for excellence in animation with its first animated female-led feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, in 1937. Realizing the fairy tale lent itself to animation, Disney used this concept to begin churning out one animated hit after another. Even incorporating animation into its live-action films, like Mary Poppins (1964). What resulted would eventually become a collection of leading ladies that would become branded official Disney Princesses in 2000. What is your favorite Sherman Brothers song from the endearing 1964 Walt Disney musical fantasy “Mary Poppins”? Perhaps it’s Robert B. and Richard M’s peppy “Spoonful of Sugar.” Or the Oscar-winning “Chim Chim Cher-ee” and tongue-twisting “”Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” It’s no secret that Disney himself loved the haunting “Feed the Birds.” Disney would often summon Richard M. to his office to play the ballad. “It’s about a lot more than birdseed for birds,” Sherman told me in a 2018 L.A. Times interview. “The song is about the simple act of giving. He’d just say, ‘Play it for me.’ And I’d sing and play it for him, and he’d say ‘Yep, that’s what it’s all about.”’
And it seems that even decades after his death in 1966, it was still what it was all about for Disney. Back in 2015, the studio unveiled the restoration of Disney’s office on the Burbank lot.

Image Source: Walt Disney The cinematic masterpiece Mary Poppins, created by Walt Disney, debuted sixty years ago. It was the only Disney picture to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar in Disney’s lifetime, and it went on to become the highest-grossing picture of 1964. Broadway legend Julie Andrews made her spectacular film debut in the movie’s title role, an accomplishment that earned her a well-earned Oscar. For 54 years Mary Poppins ruled supreme in a Hollywood increasingly dominated by franchises and sequels. Despite the fact that Mary Poppins Returns debuted in theaters in 2018, a lot of fans were still hoping for a sequel starring Julie Andrews. Sadly, that dream was never to come true. We’ve had the honor of speaking with Andrews over the years, and in one open exchange, the iconic actress revealed to us that there had previously been plans for a sequel to her cherished movie,...

Blake Edwards could have comfortably rested in the pantheon of famed comedy directors based solely on his acclaimed Pink Panther movie series, which still charms us today with its incomparable slapstick routines and gut-busting laughs. Blake Edwards: A Love Story in 24 Frames, a new entry in the American Masters series, ensures that his other movies get their due, and the episode also rounds out his personal life as a father and husband, and delves into his other pursuits, like sculpture and painting. At the center of Edwards’ life (he died in 2010) was his wife of four decades, Oscar-winning actress and singer Julie Andrews. Andrews was already famous for movies like Mary Poppins (1964) and The Sound of Music (1965) when they married in 1969 and, as the doc shows, was a huge influence on the filmmaker’s continuing career. Edwards directed her — as “a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be...

The Country Bears have had a makeover. The long-running Country Bear Jamboree attraction at Walt Disney World in Florida is reopening this month after being dark for six months, with a familiar look but a new name, a new script and a new score made up mostly of classic Disney songs sung by Americana musicians including Mac McAnally, Allison Russell, Chris Thile and Emily Ann Roberts.
The newly renamed “Country Bear Musical Jamboree” now has McAnally, a country singer-songwriter who is most widely known for being a decades-long mainstay of Jimmy Buffett’s band, serving as the producer and arranger of all the musical material for the revamped attraction. He also sings country-fied versions of “Bare Necessities” (from “The Jungle Book”) and “Fixer-Upper” (from “Frozen”) as a member of the voice cast.

“MaXXXine,” the third film in writer/director Ti West and producer/actress Mia Goth’s “X” trilogy, is now in theaters. From the ’70s set “X” to the 1910s of “Pearl” and now the ’80s of “MaXXXine,” one of the defining characteristics of the trilogy is how they adopt the look and filmmaking style of the genre of the films they are emulating. Cinematographer Eliot Rockett, a long-time West collaborator who shot all three films, told IndieWire the roots of this approach pre-dated 2022’s “X.”
“This started back with ‘House of the Devil,’” said Rockett, referencing the 2009 horror film he shot for West. “We were trying to make a movie that felt not just like a period, but the whole thing felt more like an artifact from that time.”

Dick Van Dyke weighed in on whom he’ll be supporting in the upcoming election on a recent episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast.
“I’m going to support [Joe] Biden,” the 98-year-old actor, who publicly supported Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential bid four years ago, told THR‘s Scott Feinberg about the November election.
When asked if he felt if it was fair to criticize President Biden for his age, Van Dyke made it clear he wasn’t so concerned about that. “I’ve got all my marbles, and I’m old enough to be his father,” the iconic actor said. “I’m actually old enough in years to be his father. So I’m not worried about it.”
Van Dyke did, however, express some concern about Biden’s performance in the upcoming presidential debate, noting that he feels the president has “difficulty debating.”

Rod Serling's anthology series "The Twilight Zone" may not have had a perfect run all the way through (you can check out our ranking of the original classic seasons right here), but it sure kicked off with a bang. Its second episode, "One For The Angels," was tonally much different than the show's unconventional pilot, and fairly quickly, audiences learned that they were going to be seeing many familiar faces pop up across the show's delightfully twisted and thought-provoking episodes. One such face belonged to Ed Wynn, who audiences would have known at that time for his many stage, film, and TV roles, including leading the Peabody- and Emmy-winning variety series "The Ed Wynn Show." Wynn carried this "Twilight Zone" episode on his shoulders, playing a pitchman who is visited by the personification of Death and trying to outsmart him, only to eventually have to give the pitch of his...

“I feel like a spy from nighttime television,” Van Dyke joked. “I’m the oldest nominee in history. I can’t believe it. I was playing old men all my life. If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself!”

Throughout the 1950s, big-budget musicals were de rigueur for Hollywood, and there was a sudden glut of epics that sported gigantic budgets, recognizable stars, and no small amount of studio hype. Such films were exhibited as touring roadshow productions, which was a great way for films to make fistfuls of cash. Roadshow epics were also, it should be noted, a concerted ploy by studios to distract audiences from the rising threat of television. Studios felt the need to invest a lot of money into musicals and epics, hoping the massive productions could draw people into theaters and keep the industry afloat.
One might logically predict, however, that Hollywood tried to ride the trend of epics for a little longer than was healthy, and foolish overspending eventually became common. The age of the "roadshow epic" pretty much came to a close with the release of the notorious bomb "Cleopatra" in 1963.
