Robert De Niro at an event for A Single Man (2009)

Lionsgate, via Buzzfeed, has released the first trailer and poster for this outrageous comedy, starring Zac Efron as a young man who gets talked into a road trip pilgrimage with his grandfather, played by Robert De Niro. As you can see in the video below, and as you can likely surmise from the title alone, Robert De Niro's Dick Kelly is not your average grandfather.

Jason Kelly (Zac Efron) is one week away from marrying his boss' uber-controlling daughter (Julianne Hough), putting him on the fast track for a partnership at the law firm. However, when the straight-laced Jason is tricked into driving his foul-mouthed grandfather, Dick (Robert De Niro), to Daytona for spring break, his pending nuptials are suddenly in jeopardy. Between riotous frat parties,...

Kate Hudson, Jack Black, and Bryan Cranston in Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016)
Kate Hudson Joins 'Kung Fu Panda 3' Replacing Rebel Wilson
Kate Hudson, Jack Black, and Bryan Cranston in Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016)
DreamWorks Animation's Kung Fu Panda 3 is slated for release on January 29, 2016, but the animated sequel has made a late casting change. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Kate Hudson is replacing Rebel Wilson as Mei Mei, a ribbon dancer who becomes romantically obsessed with Po (Jack Black). It doesn't appear that this casting change will affect the release date at this time.

Sources claim that the Kung Fu Panda 3 production was recently extended, which created a conflict for Rebel Wilson, forcing her to drop out. The scenes involving Mei Mei will also be re-animated, to reflect Kate Hudson's new take on the character. We got our first look at Mei Mei in the new photos that surfaced in June, but it isn't known what this new version of the character will look like.

Kung Fu Panda 3 follows Jack Black's Po as he reunites with his...

Kate Hudson, Jack Black, and Bryan Cranston in Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016)
Kung Fu Panda 3 release date moved up by DreamWorks
Kate Hudson, Jack Black, and Bryan Cranston in Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016)
Kung Fu Panda 3's cinema release has been moved up by two months.

DreamWorks Animation had previously scheduled the animated sequel for March 18, 2016, but is shifting it to January 29, 2016.

The studio had initially intended on a Christmas 2015 release for Kung Fu Panda 3, but the project was quickly moved to next year to avoid Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

This third instalment of the Kung Fu Panda series sees the loveable Po (Jack Black) facing the threat of a dangerous spirit known as The Collector (Mads Mikkelsen).

Its voice cast also includes Hollywood superstars Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Bryan Cranston and Rebel Wilson.

Kung Fu Panda 3's new release date will see it facing off directly with Chloë Grace Moretz's science fiction film The 5th Wave and Disney's true-life sea epic The Finest Hours.

This deal isn't really surprising, considering how successful the partnership has been working so far. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is also set to hit IMAX later this year, so it only makes sense that Disney would want to keep the good times rolling for future films. The recently announced deal reveals that Captain America: Civil War, Star Wars: Rogue One, and Episode VIII (among many others) will be brought to the IMAX format. Check the press release for more details:

IMAX To Screen Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar And More Disney Films
Lucasfilm

Though some films are conspicuously absent from the press release, IMAX have announced a partnership with Disney that will see most of their big releases on the large format screens over the next few years.

Specifically named in the announcement are Marvel’s Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Thor: Ragnarok.

As far as Star Wars goes, we already knew about Episode VII but now Rogue One is also on the list.

Pixar’s Finding Dory and Toy Story 4 are named, though Toy Story 4 will only be a limited release, it says. This is maybe because its June 16th 2017 release date is sandwiched between The Fantastic Four 2 on June 9th and some as-yet untitled DC movie on June 23rd.

There’s no sign of Walt Disney Animation’s own films Zootopia or Moana, but th studio’s live action movies The Finest Hours,...

Chris Pine to Star in Disney's Coast Guard Drama 'The Finest Hours'
For the most part, over the past few years, Chris Pine has taken on big blockbusters like Star Trek, last year's sequel and this year's disappointing Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Now he's sticking with studio films, but looking to get a little more serious with his acting chops. THR has word that Pine is in talks to lead The Finest Hours, a coast guard drama set back in 1952 and based on the non-fiction book of the same name about how two oil tankers were caught in the middle of a nor'easter, a macro-scale storm along the upper East Coast of the Us and Atlantic Canada. What happened is unbelievable, and worthy of the big screen. During the storm, the two oil tankers were split in town, dumping all 84 of their crew members into the swirling sea, leaving the coast guard doing their best to save as many as they could.

'Red' Director To Have His 'Finest Hours' With Disney
We all have certain affections for certain cinematic tropes.  As for me, I just love movies about old phogies who have to dig their weapons out of the gutter and fight just one more time.  So, you can guess how bonkers I went over Red when it came out and how much I'm looking forward to Red 2, which comes out in July.  Now, the director of Red has the chance to flex his cinematic muscles, for a new Disney film called The Finest Hours.

Disney nab the rights to Coast Guard rescue book The Finest Hours
Disney have bought the rights to the film adaptation of the best selling book, and tale of human courage, The Finest Hours.

The book tells the true story of a Coast Guard rescue team’s attempt to save 84 men who were left stranded in the freezing waters of the Atlantic when a blizzard saw their two oil tankers torn in half, in a cold winter of 1952.

As a storm raged through the Atlantic the men clung to floating parts of their ship’s wreckage, whilst the wooden, motorized lifeboats battled against the waves.

The adaptation will be penned by Oscar nominees, and The Fighter scribes Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson, according to a Deadline report. The pair are set to work alongside producers Jim Whitaker and fellow The Fighter alumni Dorothy Aufiero.

Whitaker called the book “a riveting story of courage” that was “all the more compelling” because it was true.

Disney Sets Sail With Coast Guard Drama, 'The Finest Hours'
Disney may have failed to copyright Navy Seal Team Six, but that didn't dampen their enthusiasm for stories of military heroism and bravery.   According to Deadline, they've optioned Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias' "The Finest Hours," the harrowing true story of a daring (and successful!) Coast Guard rescue mission.   In 1956, Cape Cod was slammed by a vicious Nor'easter. Two old and outdated WW2 vessels were caught in it, and actually torn in half by the force of the waves.  (This is the same area where "The Perfect Storm" took place.) Miraculously, all four halves stayed afloat, while survivors desperately sent out distress signals and hoped for an unlikely rescue.      Four separate search-and-rescue missions were sent out, but the most famous and honored was the one conducted by a humble wooden lifeboat with the unromantic name of CG36500.  It was captained by Bernie Webber and a handful of men, who...

Disney Picks Up Rights to High Seas Drama ‘The Finest Hours’; Script to Be Penned By Dude Who Invented ‘Air Bud’ (Obviously)
Walt Disney Pictures has just dished out plenty of clams to pay for the rights to the bestselling book The Finest Hours (reports put the deal in the six to seven-figure ranges, which translates to a lot of lobster rolls). The fact-based book, written by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias, was published in 2009 and recounts the tale of a Coast Guard rescue attempted off the coast of Cape Cod in 1952. The rescue involved two oil tankers so damaged by waves during a blizzard that they were actually ripped in half. The Coast Guard launched no less than four different rescue attempts, including a sort of last ditch effort that included the use of wooden lifeboats. The story sounds like a combination of The Perfect Storm and that terrible Coast Guard film that inexplicably starred Ashton Kutcher and Kevin Costner (I am speaking of The Guardian, a nightmare on the high seas surely to be topped only...

Disney Adapts "Finest Hours" Rescue Tale
Disney has scored the film rights to Michael J. Tougias and Casey Sherman's 2009 novel "The Finest Hours" reports Deadline.

Based on a true story and set in New England in 1952, the story deals with a Coast Guard rescue undertaken after two oil tankers were torn in half by treacherous waves during a deadly nor'easter blizzard. There were four rescue efforts, including two undertaken by a handful of men on two old, wooden, motorized 36-foot lifeboats.

The men understood they had no business fighting frozen gale winds and seas but went anyway in an attempt to rescue the 84 men who were floating on halves of the cracked and sinking oil tankers.

Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson ("The Fighter") are attached to adapt the script. Dorothy Aufiero and Jim Whitaker will produce.

Walt Disney Pictures has grabbed the rights to the 2009 novel The Finest Hours, written by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias.

The story follows a daring Cape Cod rescue by the Coast Guard in 1952, which saw two oil tankers torn in half by treacherous waves during a blizzard. There were four rescue attempts in all, two of which saw a handful of men attempting to rescue the 84 trapped sailors via two old, wooden motorized lifeboats.

The Fighter scribes Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson have been hired to write the screenplay, which will be produced by that film's Jim Whitaker and Dorothy Aufiero.

Disney Sets The Fighter Scribes to Adapt Coast Guard Rescue Book The Finest Hours
Disney has acquired the rights to the bestselling book The Finest Hours. Written by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias, the book recounts the 1952 Coast Guard rescue mission to recover 84 men trapped in a deadly nor'easter blizzard. Two WWII oil tankers were ripped in half, leaving four halves of ship floating aimlessly through the storm carrying the disaster's only survivors. The brave Coast Guard men set out on a suicide rescue mission, some on old wooden motorized lifeboats, in order to recover the lost seamen. Deadline reports that The Fighter scribes Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson have been set to write the screenplay, with Jim Whitaker (Rebirth) and Dorothy Aufiero (The Fighter) producing. It’s definitely a great story, and as long as it’s not treated like a Movie of the Week, The Finest Hours could make for a very good film. Hit the jump to read a synopsis of the book.

Disney Picks up Coast Guard Rescue Drama The Finest Hours
Walt Disney Pictures has acquired the movie rights to the bestselling book, The Finest Hours, an inspirational true rescue story by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias. The novel will get a screenplay adaptation by Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson who recently worked on the Mark Whalberg boxing film, The Fighter.

The Finest Hour tells the story of a daring Coast Guard rescue off Cape Cod in 1952. “Two oil tankers were torn in half by treacherous waves during a deadly nor'easter blizzard. There were four rescue efforts, including two undertaken by a handful of men on two old, wooden, motorized 36-foot lifeboats. The men understood they had no business fighting frozen gale winds and seas but went anyway in an attempt to rescue the 84 men who were floating on halves of the cracked and sinking oil tankers.”

It amazes me sometimes, the things that people will do in extreme circumstances to help people.

Disney Plans The Finest Hours
Disney has secured the rights to Michael J. Tougias and Casey Sherman's The Finest Hours , Deadline reports. Based on a true story, the 2009 best-seller is described as follows: In the winter of 1952, New England was battered by the most brutal nor'easter in years. As the weather wreaked havoc on land, the freezing Atlantic became a wind-whipped zone of peril, setting the stage for one of the most heroic rescue stories ever lived. In the early hours of Monday, February 18, while the storm raged, two oil tankers, the Pendleton and the Fort Mercer, found themselves in the same horrifying predicament. Built with "dirty steel," and not prepared to withstand such ferocious seas, both tankers split in two, leaving the dozens of men on board utterly at the Atlantic's...
