Steptoe and Son (1962)

FAQ

Steptoe and Son

FAQ

It depends. Originally he fought in Malaya during this time, but later (in the 1970s) he was "youthed" and given a 1930s birthdate. This may be so he doesn't feel so tied to his father and so will more likely to try and escape. He does become a veteran of the Malayan War though.

Well, they seemed to constantly perform together, it would seem that actors who truly loathed each other would stop working with each other after a while. It does seem to make good drama to suggest they didn't get on. Indeed a drama, THe Curse of Steptoe, was made out of their relationship.

Pater is ancient or posh term for father, taken from the Latin, as used by Harold. Totting is the correct term for being a rag and bone man.

In 2005 Steptoe creator Ray Galton co-wrote the play 'Murder in Oil Drum Lane' which brought the story to a close. In it Harold kills Albert in a fit of rage and then flees to live out his life in Rio de Janeiro. In his dying days he returns to his old home to find Albert's ghost still haunting it and needing his forgiveness to pass to the afterlife.
