The story revolves around Kizuna Red, a Sentai Ranger who is whisked away to another fantasy world after defeating the big bad of their season's show. Red becomes an adventurer in this fantasy world and works alongside Idora, Princess Teltina, and Lowji.

The anime series weaves together isekai genre tropes, such as gratuitous fan service, adventurer ranks, and fish-out-of-water moments, with tokusatsu tropes. But while this is a unique take on the isekai genre, its reliance on tokusatsu tropes makes one wonder why the series was an isekai anime rather than a traditional anime take/adaptation of tokusatsu properties. This is especially true, considering the central Sentai team is leaning heavily on these tropes.

In recent anime seasons, the Isekai genre has absolutely exploded in popularity. More popular series than can be easily counted have been Isekai series and it feels like there's at least one or two every new season these days. In fact, the genre has become so crowded that major publisher Kadokawa has banned Isekai stories from iterations of its story contests. Still, despite the popularity of the Isekai genre, non-anime fans may be unfamiliar with the genre, though the concept itself should be pretty familiar. Alice Hirson, who played a confidante of Barbara Bel Geddes’ Miss Ellie Ewing on Dallas and the mother of Ellen DeGeneres’ character on the comic’s groundbreaking ABC sitcom, has died. She was 95.

Hirson died Friday of natural causes at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, her son David Hirson told The Hollywood Reporter. She had been there for about a year.

From 1969-93, Hirson appeared on such daytime soap operas as CBS’ The Edge of Night as Stephanie Martin; on NBC’s Another World and its spinoff, Somerset, as Marsha Davis; on ABC’s One Life to Live as Eileen Siegel; on ABC’s General Hospital as Mrs. Van Gelder; and on ABC’s Loving as Dr. Lisa Helman.

Isekai is one of the many genres that anime can fall into. Usually, these series follow some sort of wish-fulfillment as characters are transported to another world they have to adapt to. While this has brought forth beloved anime like Sword Art Online and Log Horizon, not every isekai release is a success.

Unfortunately, some isekai anime have high hopes but simply couldn't stick the landing. Perhaps their characters were unlikable, or perhaps the plot was flawed from conception. These anime may have interesting concepts, but they fail in execution. At least there will always be more isekai anime to look forward to.

Soap operas are some of the oldest and most reliable institutions of television dramas. We all know the hallmarks. There's extreme melodrama, romance, overacting, implausible storylines, etc. They were some of the original guilty pleasure shows. Their daily airings, coupled with decades-long lifespans, mean that many of the big-name operas have aired thousands and thousands of episodes. In recent years, soap operas have mostly died out in popularity, with only a few remaining on the broadcast networks. As the last new entry debuted in 1999, it seemed unlikely that we'd ever see a debut title again.

But CBS still has faith in one of television's oldest hallmarks. On February 24, they will premiere the brand-new soap opera Beyond the Gates. It's set to run in the daytime alongside soap stalwarts The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful.

Crunchyroll has a fantastic selection of all sorts of anime, from shonen to shojo and everything in between. Anime with multiple seasons usually have their first season free, such as Solo Leveling and Re:Zero - Starting life in Another World, so viewers can get a glimpse of the anime to see if it's to their liking before committing to a subscription.

Although viewers do have to pay to enjoy the full experience of watching anime on Crunchyroll, there are plenty of amazing free-to-watch anime that are currently available for viewing. It's not limited to only one genre either, which lets viewers get to pick from a whole selection of unique anime to binge.

“So very sorry to report that Linda died at home Friday afternoon [January 17] at 3:15,” shared Laundra’s husband, David, in a post on Facebook. “I was holding her hand when she took her last breath. No more pain. At peace now and forever more.”
