Le Baiser du vampire (1963)

FAQ

Le Baiser du vampire

FAQ

While motoring through the German/Bavarian/S European???? countryside, English newlyweds Gerald (Edward de Souza) and Marianne (Jennifer Daniel) Harcourt run out of petrol and are forced to seek refuge at an inn in a small, remote village. The owners, Anna (Vera Cook) and Bruno (Peter Madden), try to make the newlyweds' stay a happy one, but they are obviously troubled by something and haven't had guests in a long time. That very evening, the Harcourts receive an invitation to dine at the chateau of Doctor Ravna (Noel Willman) and his two children, Sabena (Jacquie Wallis) and Carl (Barry Warren), not knowing that the Ravnas are leaders of a vampire cult. Only one person seems concerned...Professor Zimmer (Clifford Evans), the local drunk.

The screenplay for The Kiss of the Vampire was written by British Hammer screenwriter/producer Anthony Hinds.

Gerald and Zimmer grab the entranced Marianne and take her back to the inn. Zimmer has placed crosses drawn with distillation of garlic on all the entrances to the chateau, which seals the vampires inside. Tonight is the full moon, he says, and Capricorn is in conjunction with Saturn, a perfect night for performing a ritual that he's been working on to destroy the vampires. While Zimmer prepares a magic circle, Ravna summons Marianne, who starts walking back to the castle. When Gerald discovers that Marianne is gone, he and Father Xavier (Noel Howlett) pursue her and bring her back. Zimmer summons a scourge of bats that fly into the castle and bite all the vampires to death, which releases Marianne from her trance. The final scene shows the bats feeding on the dead vampires.

For US television, Universal-International re-edited the movie and filmed new footage involving a village family. It was lengthened to 1h34m to fill a 2 hour time slot. This edition was titled Kiss Of Evil.
