There is one reason to watch this and that is the legendary performance of Vanessa Redgrave often cited as the gold standard to which all Rosalinds must be compared to...She is so alive and vital that many performances of the role seem comatose by comparison. Her dad Michael told her to listen to Dame Edith Evans recorded performance which up till then was arguably the defining performance of Rosalind. On opening night Vanessa had a sudden block and forgot everything she had prepared so had to live each moment precariously and no doubt this gave the performance added electricity and the authenticity of living purely in the moment.
