Actor and director Narciso Busquets (1931-1988) dubbed the voice of Toshirô Mifune. Lips sync was so perfect that, since the movie was played for the first time, many people think it's the voice of Mifune. Mifune had to learn all his lines phonetically.
This is one of star Flor Silvestre's favorite films. She felt that working with Toshirô Mifune was a great honor and one of the best moments in her career.
Mexican gossip columnists invented a romance between Toshirô Mifune and Flor Silvestre. Flor, who was already married to the love of her life (and her other male co-star in the film) Antonio Aguilar, denied the rumor and simply stated that she and Mifune were friends. In 1961, she told a journalist: "Look, once and for all, I will set things straight: Mr. Mifune is a real gentleman. When he arrived on set for the first time, he gave Japanese gifts to all those who worked on the film, and I was lucky enough that he gave me, not three magnetic bracelets as it has been said, but a beautiful Japanese hand fan. But to say that he is wooing me is as big of a stretch as the length between Mexico and his country". When asked what she thought of him, she replied: "He is an extraordinary artist, very gentlemanly, very professional and he knows how to be a friend".
When asked why he chose to act in this film, Toshiro Mifune stated the following several reason; the director had convinced him to do so, he wanted to film in México, he felt the story was human and the title character to be strong and brave and finally in the honor of Pedro Infante who would have initially played the role of Animas Trujano.
