Sean Flynn (Robert Blood) was the real life son of Errol Flynn, who played Captain Peter Blood in Capitaine Blood (1935).
Pre-production press releases claimed Michael Curtiz, who had directed "Captain Blood," in the first starring film for Errol Flynn in 1935, was slated to direct this sequel, although his death from cancer precluded that.
The film was released as a double bill with Jerry souffre-douleur (1964) by Paramount in the United States.
