Supergirl: First look at Jason Momoa as Lobo unveiled
Image
The new DC Universe is continuing to grow, and 2026 will be no different as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will arrive in movie theaters as one of the franchise's upcoming installments. This year's Superman will pave the way for the Girl of Steel's arrival, but it's safe to say that fans are ready to keep up with the Kryptonians in the near-future. And that includes seeing them take on some of their greatest foes.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are overseeing the DC Studios franchise, which they have promised audiences will pay tribute to the DC Comics, providing faithful storylines that comic book fans will love. And given that Supergirl's subtitle comes from a beloved comic series, audiences are expecting a great deal from that one.

One character who we know will appear in the movie is Lobo, and he will be played by none other than Jason Momoa. Now,...

Discussion: What Is One Dceu Movie You Don’t Think Deserves The Hate?
Image
The Dceu had a fascinating history. It started out sort of strong with 2013's Man of Steel, which, despite critical difficulties, made a somewhat respectable amount of money at the box office. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there, with a series of critical failures like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2016's Suicide Squad and Justice League.

The franchise showed glimmers of hope every now and then with films like 2017's Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Shazam!, but their success wasn't enough to keep the ship afloat in the long run. Look, let's face it, the Dceu needs to be studied. It took hit after hit, but it kept going, to the point where it got many thinking, "Goddamn, what a champ. How many more hits can it take?"

Finally, following multiple financial and critical failures, the Dceu perished and the Dcu, a new live-action franchise overseen by DC Studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran,...

China’s Hollywood Ban Could Spell Trouble for James Gunn’s Superman
Image
Just when you thought the DC Universe was finally taking flight again, James Gunn’s Superman might be hitting turbulence overseas—and not the kind you fix with a cape and heat vision. DC Studios and Warner Bros. have placed all their bets on Superman to rescue the franchise from the ashes of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. But now, a sudden twist in global politics could clip Superman’s wings before takeoff—at least in China. On April 9, Donald Trump fired off a “reciprocal” tariff hike, slapping a 34% duty on Chinese imports (and threatening an extra 50% tariff on goods imported into the US). In response, Chinese state-affiliated bloggers leaked that China may retaliate by reducing—or flat-out banning—imports of U.S. films. That includes superhero flicks. Yes, even Superman. The blogs weren’t just rants. One came from Liu Hong,...

“We’re not the official story”: A Minecraft Movie Director Confirms Reason Why They Won’t Canonize Anything in the Film
Image
Minecraft enjoys a huge fan following, and now with the Minecraft movie, the anticipation of video game lovers is at an all-time high. But they are definitely in for a huge surprise, as there won’t be an official storyline that ties the movie to the game. This decision also raises a lot of questions, as the game was always known for its open-ended gameplay, where players could create their own adventures instead of following a fixed story.

And director Jared Hess as well as the creative team of the upcoming movie have decided to stick with the same idea. Instead of locking in one true story, they want the film to feel like just one of many possible adventures—just like the game itself.

Director Jared Hess detailed why he’s not trying to canonize anything...

Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow Star Jason Momoa Confirms Iconic Element Of Lobo Will Be Present In The Dcu
Image
Jason Momoa's time as the Dceu's Arthur Curry ended when Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was released at the end of 2023. That movie also marked the end of the Dceu itself, with the shared world's final moment showing Ocean Master eating a cockroach.

Even before the Aquaman sequel was released, there was chatter about Momoa taking on the role of Lobo in DC Studios' Dcu. Fans started losing hope as the months went by but James Gunn confirmed last December that the Minecraft star will transform into the Main Man for next summer's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Lobo is only expected to play a small supporting role in the movie but, talking to ComicBook.com, the actor confirmed that one iconic element of the character will remain when he makes the leap from the page to the big screen.

"We’ve been saying fraggin’ and bastich quite a bit," Momoa confirmed,...

James Gunn, Are You Watching This? DC Just Gave Aquaman a Forbidden ‘Avatar’ Power That the Dcu Cannot Ignore
Image
If you’ve ever argued with your friends about who the most underrated superhero is, chances are, you’ve had to defend Aquaman at some point. You know the drill, someone rolls their eyes and mutters, “Oh, the guy who talks to fish?”

Meanwhile, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman hog the spotlight like they’re the only ones doing any real work in the Justice League. But things are changing, and oh boy, is Aquaman about to make everyone regret their seafood-based slander.

Imagine you’re in the middle of a superhero showdown, fists flying, explosions everywhere, and suddenly, someone starts bending the blood inside their enemy’s body. Well, hold onto your tridents, folks, because that’s exactly what’s happening. Aquaman just unlocked a new power, and it’s the kind of...

The Dcu’s New Superman Movie Has A $872 Million Challenge To Beat
Image
Superman's debut in the Dcu reboot must clear a $872 million box office challenge to succeed in the revitalized cinematic universe. Henry Cavill's departure as Superman necessitates David Corenswet's fresh take on the titular hero in James Gunn's new DC universe. To establish itself separately from the Dceu, the Dcu must surpass expectations with Superman as the first step in the cinematic reinvention.

The Dcu reboot is set to launch with 2025's Superman, and the debut movie has a $872 challenge to clear. Following a string of financial bombs, the Dcu is set to reinvigorate DC's cinematic efforts with a new slate of interconnected movies set to look markedly different from the cinematic universe that began with 2013's Man of Steel. Superman will be the first to kick things off, with David Corenswet taking on the titular mantle as Henry Cavill's replacement in James Gunn's newly envisaged DC cinematic universe.

Jason Momoa’s Lobo Under James Gunn’s Dcu Already Has the Perfect Director Who Was Once Attached to the Project Years Back
Image
Stan Lee’s favorite DC character could find a place in James Gunn’s Dcu if one director were to helm the film. In the earlier Dceu, reports suggested that Michael Bay was attached to direct a movie featuring the character Lobo. The Transformers director has a knack for creating movies that gamble with absurd characters and produce amazing results. He might be the right fit to handle this character of an intergalactic bounty hunter.

The character of Lobo could still get a solo project in James Gunn’s Dcu

Interestingly, Jason Momoa pitched a solo Lobo film to Gunn during the promotion for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Momoa became a fan of the minor Superman villain of the ’80s who became popular in the ’90s as a parody of grim and gritty characters who defined comics in that decade.

One Director Could Do Justice To Jason Momoa’s...

Every DC Movie Max Just Removed From Its Streaming Service
Image
DC movies removed from Max this month may return soon, part of Warner Bros.' rotating content strategy. Iconic Batman movies like Mask of the Phantasm have been removed, but Dceu and Nolan's Batman films remain. Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern and Halle Berry's Catwoman among live-action movies off Max, may return elsewhere.

Max (formerly HBO Max) is the default home for DC movies and TV shows, but the service has just removed 31 projects as of April 1. Marvel and DC are still the two big names in the superhero media industry, and each is tied to some degree to one streaming service. Marvel movies and TV shows can be found on Disney+ with very few exceptions, and Warner Bros. is behind both Max and DC. However, while the streaming era makes watching more content easier than ever, it also has caveats.

While Disney+ has remained relatively consistent with its Marvel offerings,...

Batman Gets a Joaquin Phoenix Joker Makeover in Official DC Art
Image
Batman receives a Joker-inspired makeover in Detective Comics #1086, adding to the excitement for Joker: Folie à Deux. Sebastián Fiumara's variant cover of a graffitied Batman statue pays homage to Joaquin Phoenix's Joker portrayal. Ram V.'s upcoming Detective Comics #1086 promises a somber tone, hinting at a dark narrative for Batman in Gotham City.

Comics and cinema collide as Batman receives a Joaquin Phoenix Joker-inspired makeover for an upcoming comic. With the release of Joker: Folie à Deux fast approaching, it's understandable that references to the new movie are popping up in unrelated DC content, amplifying the excitement for it with artistic Easter eggs that are as enjoyable to discover as they are to dissect.

On June 25, 2024, Detective Comics #1086 by Ram V. and Javier Fernández will finally hit comic shelves. While this release date may still feel distant, the synopsis and accompanying art are sure to help tide fans over...

‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ Blu-ray Review
Image
Stars: Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Randall Park, Dolph Lundgren, Temuera Morrison, Martin Short, Nicole Kidman | Written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick | Directed by James Wan

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is both a direct sequel to 2018’s Aquaman (also directed by Wan) and also the fifteenth and final film in the Dceu (the DC Extended Universe). As such, it does the occasional bit of floundering, but it just about treads water, thanks to a mostly seaworthy plot and suitably salty character work.

The plot picks up a few years after the events of the first film, with Arthur Curry / Aquaman (Jason Momoa) now married to Mera (Amber Heard), raising a young son, Arthur Jr. and dividing his time between ruling as the King of Atlantis (complete with shiny orange armour), and fighting crime on the surface world. However, there’s an old enemy waiting in the wings,...

Despite The Flash Rewriting the Multiverse, Michael Keaton Hints He Can Still Return to Dcu as Batman: “Never say never”
Image
Michael Keaton is regarded as one of the finest actors in the entertainment industry who gained worldwide recognition when he starred as Bruce Wayne a.k.a., Batman in 1989’s Batman and later 1992’s Batman Returns. Directed by Tim Burton, the DC superhero movie was only given a green signal after Burton’s 1988 Beetlejuice was a success.

Keaton’s casting was considered a controversy at the time since the actor had been pigeonholed as a comic actor and fans along with critics weren’t sure if he could portray a serious character like Batman. The actor’s performance was highly lauded by the audience and the critics after the movie was released. The actor recently reprised the character for 2023’s The Flash and was later asked about the future of his Batman in Dcu.

John Travolta’s 44 Years Old Box Office Record Finally Broken- Timothée Chalamet Creates History With Dune: Part Two
Image
Actor John Travolta’s worldwide fame began when he starred in two cultural paradigm-shifting films: Saturday Night Fever, and Grease. The star achieved a rare feat that few actors had done: staying at the top two spots at the domestic box office within eight months. However, now that record seems to be broken by Timothée Chalamet.

Timothée Chalamet’s starring roles in Wonka and the recent Dune: Part Two have made him a star like no other. The films were at the top spot in their opening weeks and only slightly slowed down with new releases. While Wonka grossed $218 million domestically in its lifetime run, Dune: Part Two currently stands at over $494 million and is only expected to earn more in the coming weeks due to less competition.

‘The Color Purple’ Domestic Box Office Delivers Record-Breaking Debut
Image
While Warner Bros. Discovery held its breath as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom took its long-awaited plunge into theaters over the holiday weekend, the studio’s other fresh entry, The Color Purple, blew the competition out of the water at the box office on Christmas Day. Drumming up $18.15 million on its opening day, the musical drama earned itself bragging rights as the second-biggest Christmas Day opening of all time, falling just behind Warner Bros. 2009 feature, Sherlock Holmes, which raked in $24.6 million. The movie also delivered the biggest Christmas Day opening for a film since 2009, and was the number one movie of the day at the domestic box office.

Aquaman Nets a New Streaming Home as The Lost Kingdom Flounders
Image
The start of the new year will see Aquaman washing up on a new streaming service.

Currently, the first Aquaman movie is available to stream on Max, but it won't be long before it's streaming elsewhere. Per Collider, the film is set to start streaming on Netflix on Jan. 1, 2024, allowing the King of Atlantis to kick off the new year on the streaming platform. The film follows Netflix recently adding a slew of other DC movies, which had curiously omitted Aquaman. It was one of a small handful of movies that wasn't coming to Netflix, though the others were all notably films that were just released in 2023, including Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom Fails To Justify Why The Justice League Are Missing
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom disappoints viewers by not featuring the Justice League, leaving only Aquaman and his Atlantean allies to defeat the villain. The League's absence in the film is a plot hole, as their presence would be warranted given the global threat posed by Black Manta's actions. This is not the first time the Justice League has been absent from world-threatening conflicts in other Dceu films, making their absence in Lost Kingdom a missed opportunity for a final adventure.

The Justice League is nowhere to be found in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, ending the DC Extended Universe franchise with the latest instance of this problem. The Dceu timeline is set to be rebooted into the DC Universe, whose first properties will be 2024’s animated series Creature Commandos and 2025’ Superman: Legacy, making Lost Kingdom the franchise’s...

Aquaman Finally Addresses Batman's Justice League Insult 6 Years Later
Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom addresses Batman's joke about Aquaman talking to fish. The film includes a catch-up montage at the beginning, where Aquaman mentions his ability to talk to fish. Aquaman's son also displays the same power, adding an emotional element to the joke.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom addressed Batman's Justice League insult in the best way possible. With the Dceu now finally over, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's story serves as the final bow in the underwater movie franchise, and possibly Jason Momoa's time as the hero, as the actor is heavily rumored to play another character in the new DC Universe, with Momoa recently addressing his Lobo Dcu casting rumors. Momoa's Aquaman casting was a major deal, as it essentially reshaped how the character was seen by the general public.

Aquaman 2 Box Office Marks the End of DC’s Worst Year Since Batman & Robin
Image
Ho ho ho! Santa Claus came to town last night and when he stopped over at the Warner Bros. lot, he seemed to leave two sparkling new presents in shiny wrapping paper… and a lump of coal they call Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Indeed, the strangest thing about this year’s four-day Christmas weekend frame at the box office is that technically Warner Bros. is overall having a pretty happy Christmas. The studio’s all-ages and holiday appropriate release from last weekend, Wonka, is projected as having a respectable 52 percent drop over the three-day weekend, but that doesn’t account for the fact that the fourth day is Christmas, which means it should make $26 million over the holiday (or really a drop of only 33 percent). Meanwhile The Color Purple is expected to join Wonka in the top three when it opens today. But what of the number one film of the season?...

Aquaman 2 Worldwide Box Office Passes Two Marvel & DC 2023 Flops Despite Slow Domestic Start
Image
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom opened to a disappointing $27.6 million domestically. However, the film has performed well in international markets, earning $80.1 million and claiming the top spot worldwide. The movie's global opening weekend total is now $107.7 million, but it has not yet recouped its production budget of over $200 million.

Audiences have turned out for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in international markets. The movie, which follows the continuing adventures of DC character Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa), is a direct sequel to 2018's Aquaman, which is the highest-grossing movie in the DC Extended Universe, having earned $1.15 billion. However, the new movie has not shown as much potential, having opened to an estimated $27.6 million at the domestic box office on the weekend before Christmas, marking the fourth-worst debut of the 15-movie franchise.

Per Deadline, the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom box office has added an additional $80.1 million in 73 international markets, nearly tripling...

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's Opening Weekend Box Office Numbers Revealed
Image
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is staying afloat at the top of the box office, but it's still not great news for the Aquaman sequel.

Per Variety, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has debuted with $28 million for the weekend, and it's estimated to cap off the four-day holiday weekend at $40 million. It's a return that puts the film in the No. 1 spot for the weekend box office, respectively above Wonka ($17.7 million), Migration ($12.3 million), Anyone But You ($6.2 million), and Salaar: Part 1 Ceasefire ($5.4 million). However, $28 million is a very disappointing result for a film that cost upwards of $200 million to develop. It's also considerably lower than the McU's lowest-ever release, The Marvels, which opened to $47 million in November.

10 Best Superhero Movie Performances Of 2023
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Despite a disappointing year for superhero cinema, 2023 has featured some incredibly strong performances from Marvel and DC's dedicated actors. Michael Keaton, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson and Xolo Maridueña, among many others, all delivered powerful performances as their respective heroes in 2023. Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan and Bradley Cooper's Rocket Raccoon were two of the strongest elements of their respective MCU films in 2023.

2023 delivered a mixed bag of superhero movies from Marvel and DC, but despite a divided response to superhero cinema, 2023 also featured some powerful performances from actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC Extended Universe and Sony's Spider-Man franchises. Marvel and DC production studios collectively released eight feature films in 2023, spanning across the universes of the MCU and Dceu, while Sony expanded its Spider-Verse franchise. Unfortunately, most of 2023's superhero projects performed disappointingly at the global box office,...

10 DC Movie Villain Speeches That Were Genuinely Pretty Convincing
Image
A good DC villain requires more than just costumes and method acting; a compelling speech can establish motives and psyche. Iconic villain monologues like Bane's in The Dark Knight Rises resonate and convince with their messages of moral corruption and social inequality. Villain speeches can reveal deeper complexities, like Zod's passion to protect his planet or Waller's disdain for the weaknesses of metahumans.

The DC Universe has offered some compelling villains with convincing speeches, whether from Richard Donner's Superman movies or the Zack Snyder-fronted Dceu projects. The emphasis on villains in DC movies can be understood from how decorated actors have played antagonistic roles from the very start. For instance, Jack Nicholson received top billing to play the Joker in Batman, with his name appearing before Michael Keaton. Oscar-winner Gene Hackman was similarly the most established cast member in 1978's Superman when he was roped in to play Lex Luthor.

Box Office Update: Aquaman sinks with just $30 Million debut
Image
Numbers have begun rolling in for this Christmas weekend and as expected Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is pulling out a first place victory, however before we start celebrating, this final entry in the DC Extended Universe is pulling in just around $30 million for its 3 day haul, roughly $4 million shy of where we thought it could get to in our Thursday predictions, while its full 4 day outlook (including Christmas Day on Monday) is looking to be in the $40 million range.

That is quite the fall from grace when you consider that just 10 years ago the DC Extended Universe was launched to much fan fare when Man of Steel took in $116.6 million in its first 3 days ($128.6 million in its first 4 days). This opening comes in about $38 million shy of what the first Aquaman did back in 2018 and even worse than the notorious bombs Black Adam and The Flash ($67 million and $55 million respectively). The good news,...

Snyder's Dark Knight Returns Could Wrap Up 10 DC Missed Opportunities
Image
Zack Snyder would happily make an adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns if it was offered, allowing him to wrap up missed opportunities in his DC films. A Dark Knight Returns adaptation would provide closure for Ben Affleck's Batman character, allowing him to bow out of the role with a solo movie. The adaptation could redeem Jared Leto's Joker and give Joe Manganiello's Deathstroke a chance to shine, while also potentially bringing back Henry Cavill's Superman and giving Commissioner Gordon a larger role.

Zack Snyder has moved on from the DC movie adaptations, but one Batman movie would bring him back and allow him to wrap up several missed opportunities. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is the final installment of the DC Extended Universe before James Gunn and Peter Safran’s soft-reboot, the DC Universe, will supplant it. While Zack Snyder had many unrealized plans for his DC films,...

The DC Extended Universe is reaching a somewhat impromptu conclusion with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will see various characters from the record-breaking 2018 film return for what may be the last time. We say "may be the last time" as it's still unclear whether these characters, particularly Jason Momoa, the beloved hero, will have a place in James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC universe. Positive responses and teases from Momoa seem to indicate the answer is yes, but we still don't know for certain.

The Dceu Ends With Anticlimactic ‘Aquaman 2’ Post-Credits Scene. What’s Next for Jason Momoa and DC?
Image
Spoiler Warning: This article contains spoilers for “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” now playing in theaters.

After 10 years, 16 movies and some disappointing reviews and box office performances of late, the DC Extended Universe has officially come to an end with “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”

Jason Momoa stars as Aquaman for the seventh time in his career, after two solo movies, a “Justice League” team-up and a handful of cameos. His first standalone movie, 2018’s “Aquaman,” defied expectations and ended up making $1.15 billion at the worldwide box office, the highest-grossing DC movie ever.

But this is likely Momoa’s final time suiting up as Aquaman. New DC Studios CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran are rebooting the DC universe with 2025’s “Superman: Legacy,” with plans to recast most of the major roles. There isn’t an “Aquaman” movie on the DC slate they’ve revealed so far, meaning “Lost Kingdom...

How Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom Ends The Dceu As We Know It
Image
The DC Extended Universe is dead; long live the DC Universe. What has felt like a months-long inevitability has finally turned into reality with the release of "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," which technically functions as the last chapter of the superhero saga that began a little over 10 years ago with Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel." What comes next will be the beginning of a much different approach, shepherded by DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. But compared to the slate of high-profile projects that Warner Bros. confidently announced back in 2014, it's obvious that things didn't quite go according to plan -- and if ever there were a fitting eulogy for a franchise with plenty of unexpected highs and lows, well, that would be it.

To state the obvious, it was never the studio's intention to bring things to a conclusion with an "Aquaman" sequel, of all things.

DC Co-Chair Peter Safran Declares Jason Momoa ‘Is the Definitive Aquaman'
Image
DC Co-Chairman, Peter Safran, calls Jason Momoa "the definitive Aquaman." Despite poor critical reviews, the majority of fans are enjoying Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and giving it a respectable audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Safran hopes fans will support Momoa in his journey as Aquaman, regardless of whether future films will feature the King of Atlantis in the Dcu.

Jason Momoa is Aquaman. Since taking on the aquatic superhero for the first time in that Metahuman file-cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Momoa has completely redefined the much more demure, blonde-haired, blue-eyed version of the character who appears in DC Comics, television and animation. And whether Momoa appears as the King of Atlantis or Lobo in Peter Safran and James Gunn’s Dcu, the Game of Thrones alum will always embody Arthur Curry and his super-powered alter ego. Safran said while speaking about Aquaman and the Lost...

Goodbye DC Extended Universe: We Hardly Knew You (Yet We Knew You Too Well)
Image
In December 2018, Aquaman arrived with the amount of fanfare appropriate for the moment. It was the height of comic book culture, and one of its reigning kings, Jason Momoa, arrived at the movie’s blue carpet premiere with a golden trident. Full to the brim with bluster, he performed a ceremonial dance with members of the Maori community while wife Lisa Bonet and the couple’s kids stood in the wings. Stars Nicole Kidman and Amber Heard brought the glam and the shouts from photographers. After a raucous screening, the festivities then moved from the Chinese Theatre to the poolside afterparty at the Roosevelt Hotel.

The film would ultimately top $1 billion and stood as part of a zenith for comic book movies, in a year that included Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Five years later, things are much different. The sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,...

Aquaman 2 Review: The King of Atlantis Limply Buries Dceu at Sea
Image
One of the most amusing bits of the 2000s HBO sitcom Entourage was the fake movies that existed within the TV show. While protagonist Vincent Chase was fictional, the Hollywood he moved through was not. Real actors playing versions of themselves cameoed as they helped build Chase’s fictional movie star career, with each faux film working as a parody of some trend or fad at the time. The most infamously pointed of these was Aquaman, a phony superhero flick designed to poke fun at the recent Sam Raimi Spider-Man movie.

I thought about that gag for the first time in years while watching Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom this holiday weekend, and not just because it also revolved around DC’s most waterlogged superhero, Arthur Curry. Rather the uncanny, gnawing sensation that stalks Aquaman 2 like some bloodthirsty tuna is that you’re not watching a real movie. Something this soulless,...

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom's Most Talked About Moment Isn't In The Final Movie
Image
Major spoilers ahead for "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom."

Five years after the original "Aquaman" hit theaters and became an unexpectedly huge smash hit for DC, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" has arrived. Directed by James Wan, the sequel is another massive-scale adventure with Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry, who reluctantly teams up with Patrick Wilson's Orm to take on Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). Notably, however, Aquaman does not team up with a very important DC superhero in the film: Batman. Indeed, for all of the buzz about Batman appearing in the film, it turns out that any footage of the Caped Crusader wound up on the cutting room floor. What the heck happened?

"I shot with a couple different Batmans," Momoa told The Wrap earlier this year. That was backed by an Instagram post from July 2022, which featured Momoa showed with Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne. After all,...

Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom Post-Credits Scene Explained
Image
The post-credits scene in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is a humorous callback to an earlier joke in the movie. The scene does not set up anything for the future of the new DC Universe, allowing for a clean slate in the relaunch. Though there were potential story threads for a third Aquaman movie, it's unlikely to happen due to poor box office expectations.

For the final DC Extended Universe movie, we explain the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom post-credits scene. The sequel to 2018's Aquaman wasn't originally intended to close out the Dceu, but that's how things turned out. After many attempts to right their ship, Warner Bros. Discovery brought in James Gunn and Peter Safran to lead a new film division called DC Studios. In January, Gunn and Safran announced a relaunch of the Dceu as the new DC Universe, which will kick off on the big screen...

DC Studios Boss Says Jason Momoa “Will Always Have a Home at DC,” Even If It’s the “End of the Journey” for ‘Aquaman’
Image
Peter Safran, the co-head of DC Studios, has shared that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom could be Jason Momoa’s final appearance as the legendary comic book character.

His comment came after the actor also said that the future of the DC superhero franchise is “not looking too good.”

While recently speaking at the Aquaman sequel event at the Iwc Schaffhausen boutique in Beverly Hills, Safran responded to a question about Momoa’s future at DC Studios. “When I think of Jason in this role, he is the definitive Aquaman,” he responded. “He’s redefined it.… It’s really been an 11- or 12-year journey for him — a lot of the audience doesn’t realize that he was cast so long ago. It’s kind of redefined him. When he took this role he was known as Khal Drogo, and now he’s really Aquaman.”

The Dceu Just Ended After 10 Years With The Wildest Reference To A 15-Year-Old MCU Movie
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

The ending of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom references Iron Man's iconic "I am Iron Man" line, paying tribute to the success of the MCU. The reference emphasizes that there is no real rivalry between DC and Marvel movies, as filmmakers want both franchises to succeed. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's nod to the MCU concludes the Dceu on a positive note, bridging the gap between the two superhero universes.

The DC Extended Universe officially concludes with the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and the final installment ends with a surprising reference to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Dceu launched a decade ago with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, which first established the cinematic world that would expand to introduce the likes of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, Ben Affleck's Batman and Jason Momoa's Aquaman.

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom Ending Explained: Ocean To Ocean
Image
Warning: this post contains major spoilers for "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom."

After five years, the best superhero movie of 2018 that did not win an Oscar is finally back with a sequel. "Aquaman" remains a high point of the Dceu, a fantastical adventure movie with great worldbuilding, cool performances, an excellent horror scene, and some of the most bonkers moments in the superhero genre — like a drums-playing octopus, an army of crab people, and Julie Andrews playing an aquatic kaiju.

Now, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" doubles down on everything its predecessor did by letting James Wan go fully nuts. It expands the world of Aquaman by bringing in a mythical threat and introducing DC's answer to Mordor, it has a poignant story about the current threat to the environment, and it also gives us a fun road trip movie with Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson as bickering brothers that once fought to the death.

Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom's 10 Biggest Spoilers & Reveals
Image
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom delivers some suprises, including Vulko's off-screen death and Black Manta's apparent demise, Dr. Shin's redemption, and the reveal that the Lost Kingdom's King Kordax is Atlan's brother. Black Manta is mind-controlled by King Kordax, but the movie subverts expectations with his failure to kill Aquaman's baby son. In fact, none of Aquaman's family members or allies die in the movie. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom ends with Atlantis revealing itself to the world, Orm's life as a regular human, and Aquaman's unexpected nod to Marvel's Iron Man during a speech.

James Wan’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom delivers a few surprises in the King of Atlantis' last Dceu adventure. After joining the Justice League and taking the Atlantean throne from his brother Orm, Jason Momoa's Aquaman returns to face his biggest rival, David Kane a.k.a. Black Manta, who plans...

Warner Bros. Cancels Another DC Superhero Movie (Confirmed)
James Gunn
Another upcoming DC movie has been abandoned by Warner Bros.

Weeks before the studio hired James Gunn and Peter Safran to helm DC Studios and a franchise reboot, Emerald Fennell was tapped to write a solo film based on Zatanna, a magician from DC Comics with actual magical powers.

Now that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the final film of the former Dceu has arrived, and with fans looking forward to the debut of Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, Emerald Fennell has confirmed the fate of her own DC film.

Jason Momoa Calls Aquaman 2 a 'Really Great Movie' Despite Rocky Reviews
Image
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom leading man Jason Momoa spoke highly of the King of the Seven Seas' newest cinematic outing.

While speaking to Etalk, Momoa was asked what the most thrilling part about playing Aquaman was, replying that it was currently the finale. "I think [The Lost Kingdom is] a really great movie that sums it all up," Momoa added. You get to see where [Aquaman's] at, and it's a pretty cool journey. It's been 12 years, and the Dceu is at its end. I think this is one of those movies that you want to see it all get tied up, and I think it's a really good way to finish it all. Unless..."

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s Rotten Tomatoes Score Splats, Jason Momoa’s Film Sinks Amid Bad Reviews
Image
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is receiving poor reviews, with a 39% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics highlight issues with the film's story, special effects and editing — calling it a mess. However, some critics appreciate the movie's entertainment value and the performances of the cast.

So, it may not be Suicide Squad bad, but Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s Rotten Tomatoes score is in serious danger of splatting along with the other bottom feeders in the DC Extended Universe (Dceu). Jason Momoa’s final performance as Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the Dceu hits theaters later today for its Thursday preview screenings, and the critics are lambasting director James Wan’s follow-up to the billion-dollar success of 2018’s Aquaman.

At the time of this writing, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom registers a dismal 39% on the Tomatometer against 72 reviews. Fortunately, that’s not as terrible as Suicide Squad's record-setting low of 26%. Nonetheless,...

Box Office Predictions: Aquaman to end the Dceu in lackluster fashion
Image
It’s the most wonderful time of year, when movie studios release their big end of the year blockbuster films and their small prestige pictures vying for Oscar glory. Only problem is: this year Santa seems to be delivering a big lump of coal to the box office as the end of year box office relies heavily on a franchise that has completely crashed and burned throughout 2023.

That’s right, this year we don’t have any Avatar: The Way of Water or Spider-Man: No Way Home or Jumanji: the Next Level or Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. No, this years Holiday box office fate rides pretty heavily on the final film in the DC Extended Universe, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Granted, this is the DC film that has the biggest shot at success as the first film is the highest grossing DC film of all time with a worldwide take of $1.15 Billion.

You’ve read the stories. You’ve debated the casting announcements. You’ve watched a handful of artists try to do justice to a legacy of iconic characters that’s now just short of a century old. Maybe you even demanded that Warners release the Snyder Cut. (If so: Um, thanks?) By now, we don’t need to recount to you the long, storied history of the D.C.E.U., or remind you that because of a number of corporate decisions, scandals, disappointments, accusations, and outright Wtf head-scratchers, some...

Timothée Chalamet Spoils a Major Character’s Return in Dune: Messiah
Image
Oscar-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet casually spoiled the return of a major character in Dune: Messiah.

Ahead of Dune: Part Two’s theatrical release, Chalamet confirmed that Jason Momoa’s character Duncan Idaho would return for the potential third installment of Warner Bros.' sci-fi action franchise. Speaking with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, the Paul Atreides actor doesn’t really consider Momoa’s return as a spoiler, since fans of Frank Herbert’s original Dune novels have always known about it. "Momoa will be back," Chalamet revealed. "Not in this one, but in [Messiah]... It's weird because they're so secretive about the script and the trailer, but [the books] have been out there for 70 years."

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Review
Image
Plot: Aquaman (Jason Momoa) finds his peaceful reign as King of Atlantis cut short when his former enemy, Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), is imbued with the power of the evil Black Trident. Bent on destroying Aquaman’s family, our hero must turn to an unlikely ally, his half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson).

Review: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been a surprisingly controversial sequel. One would think that because it’s following up a billion-dollar smash and reuniting a well-loved director in James Wan with a well-loved leading man in Jason Momoa, it would have been a slam dunk. But, the film has faced a staggering amount of behind-the-scenes drama, including reshoots, release date delays, and lousy test screenings (which began two years ago). Plus, it’s been through no less than three studio regimes, and that’s not even counting the fact that one of the stars, Amber Heard,...

‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ Review
