It’s been decades since a new world order changed Earth forever, an alien invasion by creatures known as the Nonesuch forcing humanity underground. The old guard who survived remembers the war that drove them subterranean, memories of life on the surface and the beasts that present-day generations hope to never encounter. If any of them do want to risk their lives for a glimpse of the sun they’ve only heard about through stories, though, they can enlist in the military and become a soldier tasked with a one hundred day mission meant to find stragglers and point them towards sanctuary: Exilium. Battles still rage, but humanity has all but resigned itself to its defeat. Now it’s a matter of staying alive to save those who were left behind.

“Life…finds a way.” To commemorate Easter Sunday, Jurassic World 2 director Juan Antonio Bayona shared a very different kind of egg – think prehistoric, not chocolate.
Posted to Twitter, the picture harkens back to a classic (read: Steven Spielberg’s 1993 classic) in that it features more than half a dozen eggs resting in a cutting-edge incubator. It’s impossible to determine the nature of the dino eggs based on this photo alone, but judging by their size, they do appear awfully similar to those Velociraptor eggs that cropped up in the original Jurassic Park, leading to Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm uttering the famous line: “Life…finds a way.”
The technology within Universal’s blockbuster franchise has come an awful long way since – and we’re not just referring to the CGI on display. As evidenced in Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World, a franchise revival that reached $1.6 billion at the international box office,...

When I saw Moonlight, the first thing I said as the lights came up was “school sucks.” And it does.
I think this will be spoiler-free, but if you haven’t seen this magnificent movie, I hope you go as soon as you can. Like the best art, it showed me a new way of seeing the world and made me feel emotions that bound me to the characters. Although this is in no way real, for the two hours of that film, I was a self-loathing gay black man, unable to express my personal truth.
My life is privileged, however, and part of that privilege is comics.
Chiron, the boy/teenager/man who is the main character in the film, is not very articulate. This isn’t an unusual trait in a child. We all struggle to learn how to use our words. Unfortunately for him, none of the...

Welcome to an all-new feature, exclusive to Lrm: The Rumor Report Card.
For this recurring feature, I'll take a look at the week's biggest rumors, analyze them, break them down a bit, and then let you know whether or not you should believe them. Since there's constantly so much floating around out there and it can be hard to sift through what's real and what's shaky, I figured you could use the input of someone who's been dealing with this stuff every day for several years.
Today, we're going to tackle a numbers of rumors that are related to films like Wonder Woman, Green Lantern Corps, Deadpool II, and the Harry Potter franchise.
We'll be using the Bochinche Scale to grade these rumors. "Bochinche" is a Spanish slang term that means "gossip." The higher the grade, the more likely you should pay attention to this Bochinche; The lower the grade,...

In many ways, blockbuster culture is finally getting with the program and catering to an audience that’s changed since the days when it was mostly just white teenagers seeing these movies. The reboot of “Star Wars” was led by John Boyega and Daisy Ridley, the female-driven “Hunger Games” movies were bigger than most blockbusters, and […]

With filming currently taking place for F. Gary Gray’s installment of the long running action franchise, Universal have released a full cast photo for Fast and Furious 8 giving us a look at the old and new faces who will be pulling off the crazy stunts this time round. The old guard, namely Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, are of course making a come back (Lucas Black and Elena Pataky are also confirmed, but presumably weren’t around to get their picture taken), as are Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Kurt Russell, and Nathalie Emmanuel. The newcomers this time round are Scott Eastwood as protege to Russell’s Mr. Nobody, Charlize Theron as big bad Cipher, and newly announced Kristofer Hivju as one of her henchmen, making for a mini Game of Thrones reunion between him and Emmanuel. No word yet on what story will be...

This season of Game of Thrones has been ripe for the fan theory picking. After a five-year drought — A Dance With Dragons came out in July of 2011 — book readers have been gorging on the new reveals HBO is giving out week after week. From Bran’s involvement to why greyscale could be important and beyond, it’s been a great time to be a lore nerd. But after the visions in last week’s episode, “Blood of my Blood,” I feel like we’ve all been overlooking another war within the war. And it involves wildfire. Warning: Spoilers And Speculation For Game Of Thrones Beyond This Point. George R.R. Martin loves thematic layers. A Song of Ice And Fire is like an onion…or a parfait. There is the ground war between the Houses of Westeros, the war between the Faith and the nobility, and then there is the war with the White Walkers.

A massive and deadly winter storm swirled over the East Coast Friday into Saturday - leaving at least eight dead and stranding thousands on the roads and in airports - with more weather still on the way, CNN, USA Today and Reuters report. According to The Weather Channel, the storm system should move off the coast Sunday morning before sunrise, and as the skies clear, temperatures will rise above freezing. "We haven't turned the corner at all," Baltimore emergency management director Robert Maloney told CNN. "I wouldn't say we're even halfway there yet." The storm system is so big, in fact,...

Fallen Objects. Image: Courtesy of the artistHey Fernando, are you at a film right now? Sneaking away from the festival always feels so wrong, doesn't it? We're here to grind through, to fill every empty moment in our day with yet another film or another few dashed words of writing, and so stepping out of the multiplex to grab a leisurely meal with a friend or to explore a new neighborhood inspires in me nothing but guilt. Luckily, the festival has thought of such things and has given me reasons to get away from the festival center...more films! The Wavelengths section, which curates a more radical type of cinema than the rest of the fest, has often featured video art pieces installed both near and far during the festival (you may recall last year I reported on a wonderful piece in Future Projections, the old name of the Wavelengths...

Daredevil has surpassed even Agent Carter in the McU TV division stakes. Here are James' viewing notes for Rabbit In A Snowstorm...
With the whole series of Daredevil now available on Netflix, the race is on to reach the ending before someone spoils it for you. But that presents us with a problem. How do we approach reviews? It's not much use speculating about the future of the series when it's available at a moment's notice, but watching the whole thing in one go for a single review is impractical for anyone with a day job and personal relationships to maintain – to say nothing of how difficult it is to critically appraise 12 hours of television if you don't savour the instalments properly.
That's why, instead of traditional reviews, we're trying something new. An episode-by-episode unpicking of the show, looking at its techniques, characters and use of the source material. Call them annotations,...

In August 1955, George Devine, director of London’s Royal Court Theatre, ventured to meet a promising writer, living on a Thames houseboat. “I had to borrow a dinghy… wade out to it and row myself to my new playwright,” he recalled. Thus began a partnership between Devine, who sought to rescue the English stage from stale commercialism, and the 26 year old tyro, John Osborne. Together, they’d revolutionize modern theater.
Born in London but raised in Stoneleigh, Surrey, Osborne lost his father at age 12, resented his low-born mother and was expelled from school for striking a headmaster. While acting for Anthony Creighton’s repertory company, his mercurial temper and violent language appeared. In 1951 he wed actress Pamela Lane, only to divorce six years later. Osborne soon immortalized their marriage: their cramped apartment, with invasive friends and intruding in-laws, John and Pamela’s pet names and verbal abuse,...

Undeniably the highest profile film critic in the UK, Mark Kermode has managed the tricky feat of being both an insightful, erudite reviewer and a media personality with a colourfully engaging persona. He has also managed to become a respectable selling author in the era of collapsing print sales. In his latest book Hatchet Job: Love Movies, Hate Critics (www. picador.com), Kermode addresses the hot-button issue of the decline of film criticism, and the role of the internet and social networking in this perceived decline and in contemporary film marketing.
In his relaxed and witty conversational style, Kermode attempts to get to grips with the impact on his profession of the rise of the amateur film reviewer, whether they’re writers for blogs such as the one you are reading, cinema going tweeters, or Amazon reviewers. He is understandably somewhat dewy-eyed about the pre-internet era in which he first plied his trade,...

The number of films dealing with age is rising as older people take up more of the cinema-going audience
The world's population is ageing. Today, there are about 600 million older people around the world, three times more than 50 years ago – and by 2050 there should be three times more again. The effect of that is already apparent in almost every sector, including culture, which of course includes the cinema. In the early 20th century, the brand-new film industry symbolised glamour and eternal youth before being relegated to a largely teenage audience, and then being caught up by age in the following century: the age of its audience, its creators, its characters and its subject matter.
The cinema has always found ways of dealing with the subject. For many years it simply skirted the issue in two ways. One was by using farce, with truculent old rogues, as in Frank Capra's...

I don’t want to write this review.
This isn’t some general statement or some protest against reviewing this release. No, this is just me being a miserable prick on a Sunday afternoon. Feel free to blame it on the lack of alcohol to hand, next to no sleep, a hangover or woe just simply being me. Whatever the reason, I don’t want to be writing this right now.
Thankfully though, that feeling is being alleviated by the very subject matter of this review. Said subject matter being the (almost entirely) acoustic How To Throw A Successful Party by Mixtapes. For those not familiar with them, Mixtapes are a Cincinnati based pop-punk four piece who have been doing the rounds a wee while and offer up duelling male/female vocals.
Now, you may say pop-punk is dead but it’s more alive than you might think.

On top of their announcement of the "Walking Dead" season premiere date, AMC have released a full-length trailer for the upcoming batch of episodes. The old guard of Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon and the rest are all very present, plowing their way forward through the prison, what will hopefully become their new home.
But we also see Andrea on her own with Michonne, the sword-wielding warrior briefly glimpsed in the season two finale, as the two of them find their way to Woodbury, the small community owned and operated by the tyrannical Governor. Saying any more would be saying too much. Click below to check out the trailer for yourself.
