The Proposal star criticized Hollywood’s treatment of the genre and expressed the difficulties of getting a film of the genre made. She also mentioned how executives saw the genre and wanted to make it formulaic.

Ryan Reynolds thinks one of Eddie Murphy's comedic performances was overlooked by the Academy. During a recent appearance on Variety's Awards Circuit podcast, the Deadpool & Wolverine actor shared that Murphy not receiving an Oscar nod for his multi-character work on The Nutty Professor is one of the "greatest, most, greatest injustices." With 1992 set amid the uprising protests post-Rodney King verdict, the film’s tone is strong and has an unwavering message that is heartbreaking at its core.

However, Apple, who won the bidding war for the distribution rights, made a last minute decision to have a limited domestic theatrical release, and no international screenings, instead opting to make the film available for streaming on its platform.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, director Jon Watts, who is perhaps best known for helming Marvels Spider-Man trilogy, explained in a straightforward manner that he had created the film, Wolfs, for the big screen. "When we initially made the deal," explained the director, "when I was pitching it to everyone, that was before the last Spider-Man came out. So that was when the entire existential future of theatrical movie going was still up in the air.

Dont worry, Brad Pitt isnt done making movies quite yet, despite his last legs comment. While every movie fan knows John Wayne (True Grit is a milestone in American cultural literacy), A Big Hand for the Little Lady, starring Henry Fonda and Joanne Woodward, stands as a testament to the versatility of the Western genre. As if Matchstick Men met High Noon, or Oceans Eleven met Rio Bravo, the film is among the best of the Western and, more importantly, heist genres. Forgoing high noon for high hands, the film represents a departure from the common formulas, though, yielding a truly original story.

One day after Deadline revealed that Netflix beat out seven other bidders for an untitled international heist comedy package built around Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy has boarded as director and the 21 Laps principal has joined the roster of producers headed by Genre Films’ Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon, Reynolds through his Maximum Effort banner, and Dana Fox, the Lost City scribe who will write the script.

Levy is currently directing Reynolds in Deadpool 3, which Kinberg is producing. Levy and Reynolds also teamed on The Adam Project, which is the third most viewed Netflix film in the streamer of that history. Levy just directed all the episodes and was EP through his 21 Laps on the Netflix limited series All the Light We Cannot See, which just received a Golden Globe nomination.

There were eight buyers in the mix, and that whittled down to five and finally four before Netflix prevailed. Sources said Fox will be paid mid 7-figures to write it and the producing deals are high 7-figures.

2021 is nearly in the books and Hulu is celebrating by heading back to the past…like, the way past. With its list of new releases for December 2021, Hulu is going positive Medieval with two swords and shield original series arriving this month.

Animated comedy Crossing Swords premieres its second season on Dec. 10. This stop-motion style tale follows Patrick (Nicholas Hoult) as he works his way up the feudal latter of The Kingdom. This will be complemented by Dragons: The Nine Realms on Dec. 23. This series is set in the How to Train Your Dragon universe and takes place over 1,000 years after the events of the films. In it, a group of modern day kids uncover the secret truth about dragons.
