Define the genre "Romantic Comedy"

In my book ( and I have seen thousands of films ) there are only 2 movies which define the genre "Romantic Comedy" - Mumford and the rare German film "Heidelberg Romance". This DELIGHTFUL gem is so rare I cannot locate a copy anywhere, but I saw it over the 20 years ago and the feeling of delight is still vivid. Funny, rambunctious and takes on a thoroughly enjoyable ride. A movie to spark your love of cinema. Incurable! Get a copy and watch this. Absolutely brilliant. This is probably available on celluloid. Why can't they make movies like this any more? Wonderful, wonderful, most wonderful and yet again - WONDERFUL.

Heidelberg Romance

The Heimat genre during 1950s was popular due because Germany was in ruins and the general public needed an escape. This film provided an easy escape from the everyday life. It features the rural Germany that was unaffected by the war, and does not mention anything about the war. The interactions of the characters do not reflect on their social settings, thus leaving us in a state of confusion. In today's standards were every event requires an explanation, this film definitely do not keep the audience informed. However taken into context that the film was released 6 years after WWII; and that the German people were heavily burdened with guilt and tragedies of war, the film does provide a softer side of Germany. My opinion on this film is that it provides an unrealistic escape very well. If you'd like to experience the rural parts of Germany without a hint of conflict, this is your movie...a typical Heimat genre film.
