The standoff takes place at 13 13th Street, at the corner of Eerie Avenue, a play on the unlucky (or lucky) number 13. And as Pretty Boy Bagel leaves the dwelling, he passes an upside down horseshoe, indicating his luck has run out (horseshoes are traditionally hung with the points facing up for just that reason).
Prissy is seen reading The Egg and I, published in 1945. It was made into a film two years later. Both were about the adventures of a married pair of chicken ranchers.
Hammond eggs is a play on the breakfast dish ham and eggs.
