For me, this western is my favourite for the Randolph Scott - Edwin Marin collaboration, the best, xanks to the terrific Zacharay Scott's character performance. He has never been better as a villain for me. For a plot not so far from WINCHESTER 73, Scott outperforms Dan Duryea concerning the Anthony Mann's western. Scott, for me, steals the show. The audiences will remind him ten times more than the wooden and predictable Randolph Scott. But the latest is OK, just as usual, when Z Scott, still a villain, is above than usual, awesome. I highly recommend this western, one of the best from Scott before the R Scott - Boetticher's collaboration several years later for Columbia pictures and also Warner - SEVEN MEN FROM NOW.

- TriviaTo avoid confusing it with its TV series of the same name, Colt .45 (1957), Warner Bros. changed the film's title to "Chief Thundercloud". It has subsequently reverted back to its original title.
- GoofsThe firearm in the title and in use in the movie isn't a Colt .45. Colt never made an open-top revolver in .45 caliber, as it was too much gun for that configuration. The biggest it could be is a .44, like the Dragoon or Walker. The .45 caliber didn't show up until Colt made his Single Action Army model in 1872.
- Quotes
Prologue: A gun, like any other source of power, is a force for either good or evil, being neither in itself, but dependent upon those who possess it.
