Bowery Bugs (1949)

FAQ

Bowery Bugs

    Merrie Melodies.

What's the difference? See this FAQ entry

Swami Rabbitina. "Knows all. Tells all." That's according to his card.

"Oh, you kid!" "23 skidoo!" "Chicken inspector!" These were all outdated catchphrases in 1949, meant to evoke an earlier era.

"Look at the life rabbits lead," Bugs says. "Dogs, hunters, hasenpfeffer." Hasenpfeffer is a traditional German stew made from marinated rabbit or hare.

Yes. He was famous for jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge in 1886 and surviving. In Bowery Bugs, we see a plaque on the bridge that misspells his name as "Steve Brody." See: the Wikipedia page for Steve Brodie.

It's a reference to the fabled scam about "selling" the Brooklyn Bridge to any gullible tourist. In this case, the old man bought the bridge after being impressed by Bugs's story of why Steve Brody jumped off it.

The following scenes were shortened in some TV prints:

Bugs Bunny hits Brody on the head seven times. (In the censored version he hits him once.)

The policeman hits Brody several times on the head. (In the censored version he hits him fewer times.)

    See: The Censored Cartoons Page

Yes, it's included in Looney Tunes Golden Collection, Volume Three (2005) (V) Disc 1.
