Paramount Lands ‘Guys With No Friends’ Comedy Script From Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont After Bidding War (Exclusive)
Image
Following a highly competitive, multi-studio bidding war, Paramount Pictures has purchased “Guys with No Friends,” a spec script from Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont, in a seven-figure deal. Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold are producing, with Matt Schwartz executive producing for Safehouse Pictures, while Kaplan and Elfont are executive producing.

Kaplan and Elfont, the writer-director duo behind films such as “Can’t Hardly Wait” and “Josie and the Pussycats,” have spent the past few years focused on television, creating the series “Mary+Jane” for MTV and the Streamy Award-winning “Liza on Demand” for YouTube Originals. Other writing credits include “Made of Honor” and “Leap Year.”

The R-rated “Guys With No Friends” underscores Paramount’s ongoing effort to revitalize the theatrical comedies, with other upcoming films including the Liam Neeson-led “Naked Gun” reboot, a new “Scary Movie” with the Wayans Brothers, an untitled feature from Kendrick Lamar, Trey Parker and Matt Stone,...

Mara Corday, Star of ‘Tarantula’ and Lots of Westerns, Dies at 95
Image
Mara Corday, who was menaced by a huge hairy spider in the cult horror film Tarantula and appeared in several films thanks to Clint Eastwood, whom she called a “godsend,” has died. She was 95.

Corday died Feb. 9 at her home in Valencia, California, according to a death certificate filed with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health that was obtained by The Washington Post. The cause was arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

A onetime contract player at Universal-International, Corday also worked in many Westerns, among them Drums Across the River (1954), starring Audie Murphy; King Vidor’s Man Without a Star (1955), starring Kirk Douglas; and The Quiet Gun (1957), starring Forrest Tucker.

She said she was especially proud of her turn as a fun-loving French girl in the Technicolor romantic musical comedy So This Is Paris (1954), directed by Richard Quine and starring Tony Curtis and Gloria DeHaven.

Corday was married to actor Richard Long (Bourbon Street Beat,...

The Baltimore Ravens Spoofed ‘Severance’ for Their Schedule Reveal. They Just Forgot to Make It Funny
Image
I’ve been writing a lot lately about my lengthy Zoom with The Naked Gun! and Airplane! creator David Zucker. Our interview was ostensibly set up to discuss his upcoming web series MasterCrash, a more-sincere-than-usual sendup of MasterClass, and to provide space for him to gripe about being left out of Seth MacFarlane and Akiva Schaffer’s new Naked Gun movie — a classic win-win media & PR collab! The residual impact has been how much I’ve since thought about parody, and how not everybody knows how to do it right.

Time will tell if MacFarlane and Schaffer’s take starring Liam Neeson as the new Lt. Frank Drebin, son of the old one (Leslie Nielsen), strikes the right tone. Considering the IP and talent attached — and even factoring in the talent not attached — Naked Gun (August 1, 2025) has a shot. The big Baltimore Ravens short film released this week, on the other hand,...

David Zucker Is Launching His Own MasterClass Because the Real One Turned Him Down
Image
If you can’t join ‘em, spoof ‘em.

That’s what David Zucker has made a career out of, and it’s what he is still doing with new instructional-video web series, MasterCrash, a play on MasterClass. In the first episode of MasterCrash, coming out in July, Zucker (Airplane! The Naked Gun! movies) will teach viewers his 15 rules of writing parody. The writer/director’s motivation isn’t (solely) money or fame, nor is it really about teaching a new generation of comedy writers. It is, to some degree at least, about revenge.

“My manager, about three years ago, tried to enter me in MasterClass,” Zucker told The Hollywood Reporter. He was rejected. (MasterClass did not respond to requests for comment.)

Zucker is used to rejection these days. His script with Pat Proft (Hot Shots!) for Naked Gun 4!, which they titled Naked: Impossible!, was passed over in favor of giving Akiva Schaffer (Saturday Night Live,...

The Naked Gun 33 1/3: Was It Always Supposed to End the Franchise?
Image
When the great Leslie Nielsen made the media rounds in 1996, promoting his James Bond spoof, Spy Hard, everyone wanted to know one thing. Was he shocked when O.J. Simpson was arrested for murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and Ron Goldman, and did he think he was guilty? Ever the Canadian gent, Nielsen retired the ever-present fart machine he enjoyed using in interviews, and tried to give a thoughtful answer. Basically, he said that the Oj he knew on set from the three Naked Gun movies they did together never gave him an inkling that he would be capable of murder, although, to read between the lines of his answer, it was clear Nielsen likely had serious doubts as to his innocence.

Indeed, when The Naked Gun 33 1/3rd came out on March 18th 1994, no one who went to see it – and I was one of them – would have ever thought that three months later,...

David Zucker slams new Naked Gun
David Zucker at an event for Y a-t-il un pilote dans l'avion ? (1980)
Sometimes a torch is tough to pass up, especially when your name is so tied to it. But David Zucker made the attempt to lend a hand at sprucing up the script for the upcoming sequel The Naked Gun. After he was turned away, he was offered nothing more than a producer credit. This was all more than a decade ago — and Zucker is still miffed that there’s even another Naked Gun hitting the streets.

David Zucker — who co-wrote the original Naked Gun trilogy and directed the first two (not to mention co-creating the original Police Squad! series) recalled that those moving forward without him may have wanted nothing to do with him at his age. “I read the script, and I politely told them I wasn’t going to put my name on it. They wanted nothing from me except my name. They assume I’m old and...

The Naked Gun Reboot Unveils First Look at Pamela Anderson's Character (Who Liam Neeson's in Love With)
Image
2025 will continue the legacy sequels trend, with new additions to beloved fan-favorite franchises like I Know What You Did Last Summer and Final Destination. The Naked Gun franchise would also benefit from the same treatment.

The upcoming action comedy serves as a legacy sequel to 1994's Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult and marks the fourth entry in the franchise. The sequel will have Liam Neeson in the leading role, and he will be joined by Pamela Anderson. Ahead of the film's release this summer on Aug. 1, Entertainment Weekly revealed the first look at Anderson's character, Beth, who teased her "professionally romantic" relationship with Neeson.

The Naked Gun marks Anderson's first role after the success of her critically acclaimed film The Last Showgirl, her career's renaissance film. This year, she will return to the big screen with a different role in the action comedy.

Pamela Anderson Is an "Electric" Femme Fatale in 'Naked Gun' Reboot Image
Image
Pamela Anderson is trading emotional drama for high-octane absurdity this summer, stepping into the spoof spotlight as a new femme fatale in Paramount’s reboot of The Naked Gun. Hot off a career-defining performance in The Last Showgirl, the former Baywatch star is swinging hard in the opposite direction — and from the sounds of it, having the time of her life.

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Anderson opened up about her role in the reboot, working with Liam Neeson, and how the slapstick comedy might just be one of her most cathartic projects yet. "It is the same depth of process for a high comedy as it is for a drama," Anderson said. "I worked hard on the role, another cathartic experience. Every film, it seems, tackles a deep-seated issue that needs to be expressed and surfaced in ways other than anything else."

In the first look at the film,...

'Deep Cover' Trailer Finds Bryce Dallas Howard & Orlando Bloom as Unlikely Spies in Prime Video Action Comedy
Image
Some people take improv classes to be better public speakers, others love the community and the unpredictable nature of the performance. In Deep Cover starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Nick Mohammed, the comedy format is deployed to infiltrate London's criminal underworld. The film released first-look images last year, but Amazon has just released a trailer for the comedy, which is coming to Prime Video on June 1st.

The film will adhere to the comedy rule of threes, teaming up a trio for the criminal mayhem. Bryce Dallas Howard plays Kat, an improv teacher who fears she may have missed her shot at fame. Orlando Bloom's character is an intense method actor who uses improv as a tool to hone his craft and stay immersed in a role, while Nick Mohammed is the window character and the audience's surrogate into the world of improv as a down-on-his-luck everyman who wants to find his confidence.

The Original ‘Naked Gun’ Director Says ‘Just Being a Fan’ Like Seth MacFarlane Doesn’t Mean You Can Make a Reboot
Image
One of this year’s most highly-anticipated summer movies is the reboot of The Naked Gun, starring Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin’s son, who was canonically born in 1994. While the recently-released teaser trailer didn’t address Frank Jr.’s age, it did feature Neeson brutally murdering a gang of crooks, Taken-style, followed by an admittedly pretty funny O.J. joke.

One person who definitely isn’t looking forward to the new movie is David Zucker. The director and co-writer of the original Naked Gun told TMZ that the teaser trailer called to mind a notoriously revolting X-rated video, because he “can’t unsee it.” And he was somehow even harsher during a recent interview with Fox News.

Zucker noted that director Akiva Schaffer and producer Seth MacFarlane seem very “sincere,” about their love of The Naked Gun and “aren’t bad people.” But he’s clearly annoyed that they...

Mel Brooks Was Proudest of A Scene From One of His Least Popular Comedies
Image
Mel Brooks wrote and directed three of the greatest movie comedies of all time: The Producers, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. But when Brooks was asked about his favorite scene that he ever directed, he named a comedy bit that wouldn’t come up on most fans’ top 10 lists.

“Let me give you one of my movies that I love. I’m really proud, for sure, of this insane comedy I made called Dracula: Dead and Loving It,” Brooks boasted to the Daily Beast, via Far Out.

The scene in question? “Steven Weber is driving a stake through Lysette Anthony’s heart. Mel Brooks is playing Van Helsing. I say to him, ‘Drive the stake through her heart! Hit her hard.’ So he drives the stake through her heart.”

What happens next is Python-esque in terms of gross-out physical comedy. “There’s an incredible gush, an incredible fountain of blood that sprays him.

The Naked Gun: Release Date, Cast, Plot, and All You Need to Know About Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson’s Action Comedy
Image
1988’s The Naked Gun is making a comeback, but will it capture the same magic as the original? Most comedies now feel the need to sneak in a life lesson, and silliness, wordplay, or casual gags have largely been pushed aside. The Naked Gun, however, worked because it didn’t particularly care too much about those things. It just wanted to be funny.

With Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson stepping into the franchise as fresh faces, the 2025 Naked Gun reboot is officially set to hit theaters on August 1, 2025. Originally scheduled for July 18, 2025, the release date was shifted by a couple of weeks, likely to accommodate studio scheduling conflicts, including the rescheduling of Vicious, another Paramount project. Here’s everything we know so far about the new Naked Gun.

'Naked Gun' Director David Zucker Slams Liam Neeson Reboot
Image
When days ago Liam Neeson took off his pants and revealed a set of ladies' underwear in the trailer for The Naked Gun, fans got a glimpse at what could be coming in the remake of the beloved comedy classic. They are excited, but others remain skeptical about bringing back the iconic franchise. Among those, there's David Zucker, the director of the first two Naked Gun movies and part of the creative trio of writers behind parody classics like Top Secret! and Airplane! Zucker has previously stated his opinion about the upcoming reboot, but now he's sharing his scorn for Neeson's casting and the studio's decision to not consult any of them for the remake.

In a conversation with Fox News, Zucker opened up about the Naked Gun remake, which is set to premiere in theaters on August 1, 2025. The Naked Gun is based on the 1982 television series Police Squad! starring Leslie Nielsen,...

The Naked Gun | Liam Neeson stars, first trailer lands, international trailer’s different
Liam Neeson
Liam Neeson stars as Frank Drebin Jr in the new The Naked Gun film – and the first teaser trailer has gone down well.

When Liam Neeson first revealed that he was in line to head up a new take on The Naked Gun he seemed resigned to the fact that it could go badly, stating back in 2021 that “It’ll either finish my career or bring it in another direction. I honestly don’t know.”

Here in 2025, we’re not too far from finding out if that’s the case given that Neeson’s new spin on the beloved cop spoof series – made famous by the late Leslie Nielsen’s wonderful comic talents – is just a few months away. 2025’s The Naked Gun is headed to cinemas on August 1st, courtesy of Paramount.

The studio’s marketing team have even got in on the fun sense of faux doomed resignation...

The Naked Gun Reboot: Release Date, Cast, Plot And More Details
Image
If you were to compile a list of the best parody movies ever made, you would be hard pressed to find one that doesn't include "The Naked Gun" on it. The hilarious riff on procedural cop shows initially started out as "Police Squad!," a hilarious six-episode television comedy series from David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker whose only crime was being ahead of its time. Although the triage had no such luck making it play to audiences on the small screen, the short-lived series proved to be incredibly successful in movie theaters in the form of 1988's "The Naked Gun," which brought back Leslie Nielsen to reprise his role as the bumbling Detective Lt. Frank Drebin.

The David Zucker-directed film not only jumpstarted Nielsen's comedy career after his memorable role in "Airplane!," but it also led to two sequels: "The Naked Gun 2 ½: The Smell of Fear...

Liam Neeson Once Starred In A Thrilling War Movie With Squid Game's Lee Jung-Jae
Image
If I were to ask what Liam Neeson has been up to lately, pretty much everyone would be able to answer, "He's been starring in the same movie for the last 20 years." The gruff, beleaguered badass dad is basically a creation of the actor himself at this point. Ever since the French gave Neeson the star an action movie makeover with "Taken" back in 2008, the Irish actor has been suspended in a time loop that has him playing the same aggrieved dad who's really good at shooting people over and over again.

"Unknown," "Non-Stop," "Run All Night," "Honest Thief," "The Commuter," "Cold Pursuit" — the "Taken" clones just kept coming, which wasn't necessarily all that bad. Neeson had long since proven his acting skills, and while his new action persona wasn't necessarily going to produce any of the best Liam Neeson movies, it did give us a new genre of...

Liam Neeson’s ‘The Naked Gun’ Trailer Slammed by David Zucker’s involvement With Porn Comparison
Image
David Zucker has made it clear that he is not thrilled about the upcoming reboot of The Naked Gun being a thing. Having reportedly been shut out of the new movie, Zucker became known for not only The Naked Gun franchise, but movies such as Airplane, which also starred rubber-faced Leslie Neilsen in the lead role. With a new teaser having just been released for the upcoming movie, which puts Liam Neeson in the role of Nielsen's character's son, Zucker shared his response to the first look at the film with a less than complimentary comparison.

Many fans of The Naked Gun have been quite happy with the idea of a new film in the franchise, and while Neeson has become known for his rough, tough action roles, that perhaps makes him the perfect choice to send up his action persona with a more comedic approach. While the first footage,...

'Naked Gun' Star Shares How Liam Neeson Made Him Break Character

It's been 15 years since legendary actor and comedian Leslie Nielsen passed away, and Hollywood is set to pay tribute to his on-screen legacy this year with a highly anticipated new movie, which dropped its teaser trailer today. Hauser also shared his experience working on The Naked Gun with the Taken man himself, Liam Neeson.

One of the Last Great Parodies and One of Chris Evans’ First Leading Roles Is Leaving Netflix Soon
Image
If you go on Letterboxd or visit the film-focused corners of social media, sooner or later you're bound to encounter a post that goes: "They don't make movies like this anymore." This line of thinking is debatable, but there's one genre of film that seems to be virtually extinct — the parody. Long gone are the days of films like Airplane!, the Naked Gun series, or the works of Mel Brooks; it's become hard to find a film that's a genuine parody nowadays. More to the point, it's hard to find a good parody film nowadays. It also doesn't help that one of the last good parodies ever made, Not Another Teen Movie, is slated to leave Netflix by January 31.

Every Liam Neeson Movie Streaming On Netflix
Image
Actor Liam Neeson continues to be one of the most prolific movie stars in Hollywood, having starred in several films across different genres that are understandably plentiful on Netflix. Neeson made a name for himself as an actor by starring in serious drama films. Specifically, he became a household name after giving an Oscar-nominated performance as the lead in Steven Spielberg's 1993 film Schindler's List. Over thirty years later, Neeson remains a bankable movie icon, having appeared in several action movies following his iconic role in the highly successful film Taken.

Due to Neeson's incredible acting talents, his filmography continues to grow, with his name most notably being attached to the upcoming reboot of Naked Gun, despite announcing his retirement from action movies. Since Neeson has starred in projects that fall into multiple genres, his films are perfect for those looking for an exciting movie night or an artistic slice of cinema.

The Invisible Raptor definitely feels like a love letter to 80s and 90s classics. What were some of your foundational films from that era?

His other projects released in 2024, including Absolution and Wildcat, are awaiting worldwide releases following a limited theatrical run in the United States.

The Last Showgirl | Trailer released for Pamela Anderson comeback film
Pamela Anderson
Pamela Anderson returns to the screen in The Last Showgirl, and the trailer for the film has landed. Right here.

Pamela Anderson will always be indelibly intertwined with Baywatch, the campy drama in which she starred for five series between between 1992 and 1997, returning for a cameo in the 2017 feature film.

But she also ventured into other films too. She starred in cult superhero film Barb Wire in 1996, and she also had a memorable cameo in Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat. In fact, she was one of the few actors in on the gag where the titular character attempts to marry her by ensconcing her in a sack and carrying her out of her book signing.

She has made only sporadic appearances onscreen in recent years though, but now Pamela Anderson is getting awards buzz for her leading performance in The Last Showgirl.

In the film, Anderson stars alongside Jamie Lee Curtis,...

Fans Only Have Two Weeks to Watch An Underrated Peacock Show
Image
One of the best shows on Peacock is about to disappear -- so viewers need to check out Code 404 while they still can. The streaming service has quietly announced that the cop comedy, starring Daniel Mays and Stephen Graham as a pair of hard-boiled detectives, will be removed in two weeks. And when it goes, Peacock will lose one of its funniest and most unique shows.

Code 404 is one of several British TV series that Peacock acquired and debuted in the U.S. as Peacock originals. It wound up becoming one of the best Peacock shows, because of its recognizable cast and their total commitment to an off-the-wall world. Anyone who hasn't seen this wild parody of policing has just two weeks to fall over laughing while enjoying some great performances. Between its spot-on parody of crime dramas and its cast going for broke, this is a series...

Liam Neeson's Taken is Now Streaming on Max
Image
Liam Neesons action blockbuster Taken could have been another inconsequential throwback to action movies of the 1980s, but instead the film completely changed the actors career path. Neeson had been mostly known for his role in dramas such as Schindlers List, the comedy Love, Actually, and, of course, his venture into the Star Wars universe as Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace, but Taken changed all that overnight. After being available to rent or buy on various platforms, the movie has now found a streaming home on Max.

Taken stars Neeson as Bryan Mills, a former CIA agent whose daughter is kidnapped by human traffickers, leading him to make an often parodied speech to her captors, and embark on a brutal mission to save her. The movie, directed by Pierre Morel, combined its emotional father/daughter story with plenty of action sequences that appealed to audiences on a huge scale.

The 50 Greatest Meta Jokes in Movie History
Image
We’re obviously completely self-aware that we’re publishing this list the Monday after Deadpool & Wolverine made $205 million at the box office. That’s the whole point of being meta, right? Or if you want to get Merriam-Webster involved, something that “shows or suggests an explicit awareness of itself or oneself as a member of its category: cleverly self-referential.”

That said, when it comes to movies, this kind of self-awareness can cover a wide range of narrative devices. A character quietly acknowledging the audience can be meta. Other times, meta scenes can intentionally break apart a film’s reality. Meta doesn’t even necessarily need to be done for the sake of humor either, as plenty of movies — from Frederico Fellini’s 8½ to the horror thriller Funny Games — get meta without much humorous intention.

But for the purposes of this list, which Cracked writers Tim Grierson and Matt Solomon and...

Pamela Anderson Signs With CAA
Image
Exclusive: Pamela Anderson, the actress whose turn as C.J. Parker on the hit series Baywatch made her a leading figure in ’90s television, has signed with CAA for representation.

During her time on Baywatch at Fox, the series was the most viewed show with over a billion views per week, and there became a ‘Pamela clause’ that international buyers would only buy episodes she was in.

Anderson will next be seen playing the title role in Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl, a film that is set to make its world premiere in the Special Presentations section of the Toronto Film Festival. Written by Kate Gersten, the film follows a seasoned showgirl who must plan for her future when her show abruptly closes after a 30-year run. As a dancer in her 50s, she struggles with what to do next. As a mother, she strives to repair a strained relationship with her daughter,...

Paul Walter Hauser Has Been Practicing His 'Entire Life' to Play Chris Farley in Biopic
Image
Paul Walter Hauser has drawn some very high acclaim for his film and TV roles. He may be taking on his biggest role yet as the star of an upcoming Chris Farley biopic, but the actor feels this is a part he's spent his life preparing for.

In an interview with Variety, Hauser addressed his role in the untitled biopic. As a longtime fan of the late Saturday Night Live star, Hauser noted that he's "been practicing to play Chris Farley my entire life." With that noted, the Richard Jewell star admitted that it will still be difficult to turn in a well-received performance, given how people may be much more judgmental with someone playing such a beloved celebrity as opposed to another original character.

‘My Spy the Eternal City’ Review: Dave Bautista and Chloe Coleman Discover the Real Enemy Is a Shoddy Sequel
Image
If most sequels tend to feel like hastily rewritten versions of the original, why can’t the same rules apply to reviews of said sequels? In preparation for viewing and critiquing Peter Segal’s “My Spy the Eternal City,” this critic returned to her own review of the first film, the spring 2020 streaming hit “My Spy.” Within that review: a number of ideas, thoughts, and opinions that could easily transfer over to this first sequel, with minimal edits.

For instance, in “My Spy,” star Dave “Bautista and a genuinely cute kid co-star can’t enliven this predictable and humorless entry into a micro-genre long due for a refresher.” Still true. Co-star Chloe Coleman and “Bautista are wonderful together — appealing, warm, and well-matched — but ‘My Spy’ just can’t capitalize on that chemistry.” We did ask for it. The plot? The “only clear plot points being the ones already done to...

Paul Walter Hauser has a busy couple of years ahead, with an untitled Chris Farley biopic, the Naked Gun reboot, Mark Wahlberg action-comedy Balls Up and the Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere just some of the projects currently on his schedule.

He is also set to play a supporting role in Marvel Studios' upcoming The Fantastic Four reboot, but details on his character are still under wraps.

Hauser was asked about his role during an interview with Variety, but declined to spill any details aside from delving into how he's been preparing for the movie, which is set to begin filming before the end of the month.

"Pre-production for me has been reading comic books and reading the screenplay. A lot of it is assessing where I fit into that story and how to best utilize my time in it. You don’t want to make choices or...

Jeannette Charles, Famed Queen Elizabeth II Look-Alike, Dies at 96
Image
Jeannette Charles, the Queen Elizabeth II look-alike who played the British monarch for laughs in National Lampoon’s European Vacation, in the first Naked Gun movie and in the last Austin Powers film, has died. She was 96.

Charles died Sunday at a hospice facility in Great Baddow, Essex, England, her daughter, Carol Christophi, announced. “Mum was a real character and a force of nature. She had an amazing life,” she said. “She was always respectful of the queen and adored the royal family.”

Queen Elizabeth II died in September 2022, also at age 96.

Charles spent more than four decades doubling for the head of state before she wound down her career in 2014.

“I think the first time I was recognized [as the queen] was on a trip [in 1971] to Capri in Italy, with my Italian pen friend Florence,” she recalled in a 2012 interview. “Someone shouted ‘Princess Elizabeth’ in Italian, my friend explained her majesty had...

Jeanette Charles, Queen Elizabeth Lookalike Actress From The Naked Gun and Austin Powers, Dead at 96
Image
Jeanette Charles, a British actress famous for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in countless films and television series including The Naked Gun, National Lampoon’s European Vacation, and Austin Powers in Goldmember, has died at the age of 96.

Hailing from Essex, Charles ironically had trouble obtaining roles in her early days due to her resemblance to the Queen of England. However, when she began to receive lucrative offers to portray the Queen both in advertisements and in film, she began to embrace her role as an impersonator.

Charles’ most notable on-screen appearances as Queen Elizabeth came in 1985’s National Lampoon’s European Vacation, where she appeared in Ellen Griswold’s dreams; in 1988’s The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, where she was the target of an assassination plot at an Anaheim Angels baseball game — and also threw a screwball; and in 2002’s Austin Powers in Goldmember, where she honored Austin with knighthood.

Paul Walter Hauser Admits Past ‘Fantastic Four’ Missteps Weighed on Him Before Joining New Movie
Image
It was not lost on Paul Walter Hauser that previous film representations of the Fantastic Four did not exactly set the world on fire.

During a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, the in-demand actor reveals that those poorly received movie adaptations of Marvel’s superhero team made him give some extra thought before joining director Matt Shakman’s Disney film that is set to hit theaters July 25, 2025. Hauser, who recently earned an Emmy for his role in Black Bird, will play a not-yet-disclosed role in the project that features Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing).

“Don’t think that didn’t weigh in as I was deciding whether or not to take the job,” Hauser says of the property’s checkered Hollywood past. “That movie has not fully been nailed just yet.”

He continues, “But I really do think the combination of the screenplay,...
