Following a highly competitive, multi-studio bidding war, Paramount Pictures has purchased “Guys with No Friends,” a spec script from Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont, in a seven-figure deal. Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold are producing, with Matt Schwartz executive producing for Safehouse Pictures, while Kaplan and Elfont are executive producing.

Kaplan and Elfont, the writer-director duo behind films such as “Can’t Hardly Wait” and “Josie and the Pussycats,” have spent the past few years focused on television, creating the series “Mary+Jane” for MTV and the Streamy Award-winning “Liza on Demand” for YouTube Originals. Other writing credits include “Made of Honor” and “Leap Year.”

Mara Corday, who was menaced by a huge hairy spider in the cult horror film Tarantula and appeared in several films thanks to Clint Eastwood, whom she called a “godsend,” has died. She was 95.

Corday died Feb. 9 at her home in Valencia, California, according to a death certificate filed with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health that was obtained by The Washington Post. The cause was arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

A onetime contract player at Universal-International, Corday also worked in many Westerns, among them Drums Across the River (1954), starring Audie Murphy; King Vidor’s Man Without a Star (1955), starring Kirk Douglas; and The Quiet Gun (1957), starring Forrest Tucker.

That’s what David Zucker has made a career out of, and it’s what he is still doing with new instructional-video web series, MasterCrash, a play on MasterClass. In the first episode of MasterCrash, coming out in July, Zucker (Airplane! The Naked Gun! movies) will teach viewers his 15 rules of writing parody. The writer/director’s motivation isn’t (solely) money or fame, nor is it really about teaching a new generation of comedy writers. It is, to some degree at least, about revenge.

“My manager, about three years ago, tried to enter me in MasterClass,” Zucker told The Hollywood Reporter. He was rejected. (MasterClass did not respond to requests for comment.)

Liam Neeson's $493M mythological epic is moving to a new streaming home come December. For Neeson, 2024 was a busy year chock-full of new projects, including filming the Seth MacFarlane-developed Naked Gun reboot set for release in August 2025. His other projects released in 2024, including Absolution and Wildcat, are awaiting worldwide releases following a limited theatrical run in the United States.

Neeson has built a formidable career with a balance of dramatic gravitas and commanding action roles, from his Oscar-nominated role as Oskar Schindler in Schindlers List to redefining the modern action hero of Bryan Mills in Taken. Neesons ability to captivate viewers across a multitude of genres is impressive. Throughout the 2000s, Neeson added mythological epics to his repertoire, playing larger-than-life roles in films such as Clash of the Titans and Ra's al Ghul in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, among others.

Pamela Anderson will always be indelibly intertwined with Baywatch, the campy drama in which she starred for five series between between 1992 and 1997, returning for a cameo in the 2017 feature film.

But she also ventured into other films too. She starred in cult superhero film Barb Wire in 1996, and she also had a memorable cameo in Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat. In fact, she was one of the few actors in on the gag where the titular character attempts to marry her by ensconcing her in a sack and carrying her out of her book signing.

She has made only sporadic appearances onscreen in recent years though, but now Pamela Anderson is getting awards buzz for her leading performance in The Last Showgirl.

Liam Neesons action blockbuster Taken could have been another inconsequential throwback to action movies of the 1980s, but instead the film completely changed the actors career path. Paul Walter Hauser has drawn some very high acclaim for his film and TV roles. He may be taking on his biggest role yet as the star of an upcoming Chris Farley biopic, but the actor feels this is a part he's spent his life preparing for.

In an interview with Variety, Hauser addressed his role in the untitled biopic. As a longtime fan of the late Saturday Night Live star, Hauser noted that he's "been practicing to play Chris Farley my entire life." With that noted, the Richard Jewell star admitted that it will still be difficult to turn in a well-received performance, given how people may be much more judgmental with someone playing such a beloved celebrity as opposed to another original character.

Jeannette Charles, the British actor best known for her striking resemblance of Queen Elizabeth II that landed her roles in Naked Gun and Austin Powers, has died at the age of 96.

On Wednesday the actor’s daughter, Carol Christophi, announced her mother died on 2 June in a care home in Great Baddow, Essex.

Jeannette Charles, the Queen Elizabeth II look-alike who played the British monarch for laughs in National Lampoon’s European Vacation, in the first Naked Gun movie and in the last Austin Powers film, has died. She was 96.

Charles died Sunday at a hospice facility in Great Baddow, Essex, England, her daughter, Carol Christophi, announced. “Mum was a real character and a force of nature. She had an amazing life,” she said. “She was always respectful of the queen and adored the royal family.”

Queen Elizabeth II died in September 2022, also at age 96.

Charles spent more than four decades doubling for the head of state before she wound down her career in 2014.

Jeanette Charles, a British actress famous for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in countless films and television series including The Naked Gun, National Lampoon’s European Vacation, and Austin Powers in Goldmember, has died at the age of 96.

Hailing from Essex, Charles ironically had trouble obtaining roles in her early days due to her resemblance to the Queen of England. However, when she began to receive lucrative offers to portray the Queen both in advertisements and in film, she began to embrace her role as an impersonator.

Charles’ most notable on-screen appearances as Queen Elizabeth came in 1985’s National Lampoon’s European Vacation, where she appeared in Ellen Griswold’s dreams; in 1988’s The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, where she was the target of an assassination plot at an Anaheim Angels baseball game — and also threw a screwball; and in 2002’s Austin Powers in Goldmember, where she honored Austin with knighthood.

During a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, the in-demand actor reveals that those poorly received movie adaptations of Marvel’s superhero team made him give some extra thought before joining director Matt Shakman’s Disney film that is set to hit theaters July 25, 2025.
