Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
HBO Max New Releases: December 2020
Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Time and time again during this year’s pandemic, movie studios have had to make the best of a bad situation. HBO Max’s list of new releases for December 2020 comes along with the most extreme example yet.

WarnerMedia undoubtedly had big plans for Wonder Woman 1984 when it scheduled it for a holiday release last year. After moving it to the summer, however, the conglomerate had to delay its theatrical release time and time again. Now HBO Max is the lucky winner of the saga, as it gets to premiere the long-awaited sequel on its servers on Dec. 25.

While Wonder Woman 1984 is definitely the headline this month, there are some other intriguing streaming options for HBO Max in December. The month plays host to a whole host of high-powered documentaries like Heaven’s Gate: The Cult of Cults (Dec. 3), Alabama Snake (Dec. 9), and the Tiger Woods documentary Tiger (Dec.

A Tribute to Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds
2016 claimed a long list of entertainers, but the grim reaper’s most unexpected one-two punch came between the final two holidays with the death of movie icons Carrie Fisher on December 12 and her mother Debbie Reynolds a mere 36 hours later. With the premiere of the documentary about the pair, “Bright Lights” on HBO this weekend, we at the Geeks site thought we should take a look at their considerable contributions to film.

Let’s start with Carrie, who was born in Hollywood, USA on October 21, 1956, the daughter of Debbie and singer/actor Eddie Fisher. She appeared on stage with her mother throughout the late 60’s and early 70’s, even getting her first small screen credit in the 1969 TV movie “Debbie Reynolds and the Sound of Children”. It wasn’t until 1975, when she would make her big screen debut opposite Warren Beatty (quite an arrival) in Hal Ashby’s hit Shampoo.

The Best Film Scores of 2015 (So Far)
Either I’ve been staying on top of my homework or 2015 has been an exceptionally strong year for film scores already. From blockbuster disappointments to indie oddities and mindless action sequels, film music has once again shown it can transcend its respective dreck just as much as it can enhance the cinematic experience. With film festival season on the horizon, let’s check in with the best movie music of the year:

8. Chappie — Hans Zimmer, Steve Mazzaro, Andrew Kawczynski

Neil Blomkamp’s movies seem to be getting worse, but Hans Zimmer’s sensibilities are getting more exotic and daring. Course-correcting from the massive publicity stunt that was The Amazing Spider-man 2, the master of bombast continues to experiment with digital textures, recruiting pupils Kawczyksnki and Mazzaro for a score that humanizes and contextualizes the childish perspective of its Robocop with a heart of gold.

The Big C Review: Getting Juicy
Well, that was certainly a twist.

For most of "How Bazaar," I found myself once again hating on Cathy and feeling like the show - which started two seasons ago as grounded in the idea of a woman struggling with her cancer diagnosis - was continuing to branch off in a number of absurd directions.

Paul with a sponsorship? Sean in an open threesome... err, thruple? As I wrote about last week, I'm all for funny, unique storylines. But The Big C has just been really out there over the last few episodes, focusing more on the ridiculous actions of its characters than on the characters themselves.

That changed a bit here, fortunately, as both Paul and Cathy got close to other members of the opposite sex, which - unfortunately for their marriage - does seem consistent with what we witnessed earlier in the season.

Remember when Cathy chose chocolate...

The Big C Review: Bundles of Joy
It takes a lot to overshadow an Oscar winner, but Cathy Jamison's announcement to conclude the latest episode of The Big C almost made me forget that Susan Sarandon even appeared on "Bundle of Joy."

Another baby? Really?!?

It can't be said that Cathy isn't embracing the joyful lessons espoused by Ms. Joy Kleinman, especially the part about leaving your baggage behind and focusing on the future, but I'll ask again: a baby? Really?!?

We're obviously a long way from greeting the actual tyke, but even entertaining such a notion seems a bit selfish on Cathy's part. She isn't 100% cancer-free, Paul isn't even permitted to jump while dancing. It's hard to see these two being model parents these days - or, to be brutally honest, it's hard to even see them both being around until the child's middle school graduation.

Still, it's an interesting direction for the show to go...

'The Big C': Susan Sarandon as a 'joyologist' pictures
"The Big C" is continuing its tradition of welcoming big name guest stars. Susan Sarandon is the latest Hollywood A-lister to join the Showtime dramedy. She debuts in the third episode of Season 3, titled, "Bundle of Joy," for a multi-episode arc.

The episode sees Cathy (Laura Linney) meeting Sarandon's character, the aptly named Joy the joyologist, at a creative retreat. Joy is a cancer survivor whom Cathy ends up befriending. Joy uses her cancer experience to inspire others and motivates Cathy to get more out of her cancer experience.

We hope that means Cathy stops with the day drinking. Drunk, belligerent Cathy isn't that much fun. And we bet Sarandon is just a hoot in this role. "The Big C" airs Sunday nights on Showtime.

Eddie Fisher obituary
American crooner and one of the husbands of Elizabeth Taylor, his heyday was the 50s

Eddie Fisher, who has died aged 82 of complications from hip surgery, deserves to be remembered as one of the sweetest popular singers of the pre-rock'n'roll era, with 32 hits selling millions of copies. Instead, it was as one of the many husbands of Elizabeth Taylor that he etched himself a place in show business history. And further to that, "I came from the streets of Philadelphia to the White House – Harry Truman loved me, Ike loved me, Jack Kennedy and I shared drugs and women," he later said of himself.

It was a reputation that he did not need. Numbers such as I'm Walking Behind You, Wish You Were Here and Oh, My Pa-Pa got young women screaming and music aficionados admiring the sheer strength and beauty of his voice – a most unusual combination. Yet when...

Eddie Fisher c. 1966
R.I.P. Eddie Fisher
Eddie Fisher c. 1966
Reliable sources tell me that Eddie Fisher has died. He was 82. The singer and entertainer and TV star of his own show and co-star of films Bundle Of Joy and Butterfield 8 had his heyday in the 1950s. In 1953 Fisher was given his own 15-minute TV show called Coke Time, sponsored by the Coca-Cola company; it was so popular that Coke then offered Eddie an unprecedented $1 million contract to be their national spokesperson. But Fisher is best known for having been married to Debbie Reynolds, Elizabeth Taylor, and Connie Stevens and for fathering multitalent Carrie Fisher and TV actress Joely Fisher. He created quite the worldwide scandal when he dumped his first wife, America's sweetheart Reynolds, to marry his best friend's widow, America's sex symbol Taylor, who then dumped him for Richard Burton. Fisher became reviled and his career never recovered. (The two women later mocked Fisher in a thinly...
