Is Millie Bobby Brown Dropping Hints About Playing Britney Spears?
Image
Millie Bobby Brownreally wants to play Britney Spears in the upcoming Jon M. Chu adaptation of her memoir, The Woman In Me. The Stranger Things actress has not been shy about her adoration and respect for the beleaguered pop star — one time saying during an interview that "I want to play a real person and I think for me, [it's] Britney Spears," adding that "her story ... resonates with me" — and now fans are taking note of what looks to be an attempt to show the world that she's ready to tackle the early aughts' biggest pop star.

Thanks to a series of new interviews, plus the debut of some seriously blonde locks and Y2K-inspired looks, fans of both Spears and Brown are taking note — but don't get your hopes up yet, as there's yet to be any sort of confirmation about who might dance their way into the spotlight. (But...

Ryan Gosling’s Wild ‘Drive’ To Cult Classic Status
Ryan Gosling at an event for Lost River (2014)
Image Source: Sony Pictures Ryan Gosling may have started his career in the wholesome spotlight of Disney Channel’s The Mickey Mouse Club, where he charmed audiences at just 12 years old. From there, he continued the clean-cut trend with roles in teen-friendly shows like Breaker High and Young Hercules. For years, he carried the squeaky-clean image of a child star—but hidden under that polished exterior was a shadowy, untapped side of Ryan Gosling, waiting for the right moment to break out. That moment arrived with Drive. Released in 2011, this neo-noir thriller gave the actor the kind of role he craved—a chance to step into the shoes of a brooding, violent anti-hero. Gosling plays a mysterious getaway driver, a man of few words but many secrets, who is pulled into a spiral of crime and chaos. At the time of the film’s release, Gosling explained his excited motivation for taking on the role,...

Disney Adding New Disclaimer Ahead of Dumbo, Peter Pan, and More Old Titles
Image
Disney is one of the biggest studios, with experience of over 100 years in the film industry. Not all productions aged well, and the studio wants to acknowledge that.

Disney has created some of the most beloved animated films but not all of them honor the same values the studio tries to embody in present times. Per a new letter to leadership from Disney's chief human resources officer Sonia Coleman, obtained by Variety, the studio is looking to make some changes during a Dei strategy shift. That involves a brand new content warning for some old titles, like Dumbo, Peter Pan, and Aristocats.

Did Michelle Williams & Ryan Gosling Live Together For A Month To Make Blue Valentine Feel Real?
Image
Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams lived together for Blue Valentine ( Photo Credit – Prime Video )

Director Derek Cianfrance took it to the next level, telling Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling to move in together for a month in the same house where their characters lived. Yeah, you heard that right. They spent a whole month playing house, doing the everyday stuff—except it wasn’t just pretend. It was about making their broken marriage feel as accurate as possible.

The movie charts the rise and fall of a relationship, and Cianfrance split the shoot into three parts. First, the love. Then came the chaos. And in between, he told Williams and Gosling to move in together (with the young actress who played their daughter). The catch? They had to live in the same house where their characters lived. During the day, they played house—shopping for groceries, decorating for fake holidays,...

Disney & Oz Part I: Why Walt's dreams of an Oz movie never came to be
Image
As Wicked hit theaters, it's interesting to see Disney's surprisingly long history with the Oz books!

The world of Oz is about to see a new spark in popularity. After two decades as one of the biggest musical hits in the world, Wicked is about to hit the big screen in part one of a two-part epic. It's a revisionist take on the property showing how Elphaba aka the Wicked Witch of the West, wasn't that bad a person and her friendship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North.

The movie is from Universal and seems set to become a major box office hit. Yet there was a time when it looked like Disney might get their toes into the property and the history of Disney and Oz is fascinating to see!

The early Oz foray

The early days of moviemaking were tricky, yet was always interested in adapting some beloved books.

The 14 Earliest Animated TV Series Ever Aired
Image
The path to Rick and Morty started with Crusader Rabbit and ran through Winky Dink.

14 ‘The Woody Woodpecker Show’ (1957)

Besides the classic animated shorts, they also filled time with live-action footage of Disney animators in their glorified sweatshops, and a voice actor riffing over newsreel footage, in character as Woody Woodpecker.

13 ‘The Ruff and Reddy Show’ (1957)

Named after 19th century Whig Party star Zachary Taylor, aka “Old Rough and Ready,” this show was about a smart cat and a dumb dog who never met a woman because the studio would only pay for two voice actors. It was the first-ever Hanna-Barbera series.

12 ‘Tom Terrific’ (1957)

Tom Terrific was a child superhero who could turn into any animal or vehicle he wanted. He lived alone in a treehouse (with his sentient but stupid dog), and didn’t fight crime, per se, but rather raged against the adults in his life. Sounds pretty bleak!

Keri Russell Reveals Controversial “Aging Out” Practice in ‘The Mickey Mouse Club’

Former Disney star Keri Russell recently got real about her time on The Mickey Mouse Club when she was a teen. Speaking on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s podcast, Russell revealed there was a double standard – girls seen as “sexually active” often got cut from the show.

She explained they’d say “she’s out” if a girl looked like she was doing stuff. Meanwhile, Russell noticed the boys stayed til they were almost 20! Can you say unfair?

The actress, who’s now 47, was only 15 when she joined the show. She pointed out how weird it was that the female cast members faced stricter rules. Russell even hinted she knew firsthand about castmates having relationships. #Awkward

With 19 kids on set, Russell said the adults running things were invisible. Maybe that separation helped guard them from the pressures child stars can face. These days, she looks back feeling the least talented compared...

‘The Notebook’ 20th anniversary: Remembering the Rachel McAdams/Ryan Gosling love story
Image
It’s the film that has made many a woman swoon, and solidified Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling as romantic leads. “The Notebook” made its national debut on June 25, 2004, and has become a favorite love story for many movie fans. On this 20th anniversary, let’s look back two decades to see how Nicholas Sparks‘ novel came to the big screen.

Sparks was inspired by the six-decade marriage of his wife’s grandparents, and wanted to write a book capturing a longtime romance. “The Notebook” is a tender story of young forbidden love, heartbreaking separation and passionate reunion, mostly set in 1940s South Carolina, as told by Noah to his beloved Allie, who has been robbed of her memories by Alzheimer’s disease. The best-selling novel was published in 1996, and the film rights were sold not long after, but it would be nearly a decade before the production came together,...

Ryan Gosling movies: 17 greatest films ranked worst to best
Image
Full disclosure. Many years ago, I worked at the Disney Channel at the time producers were casting a revival of the kids show “The Mickey Mouse Club.” I don’t know who did the selection of the cast members, but among the then-unknown pre-teens they chose were Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Keri Russell and a gawky 13 year-old Canadian kid named Ryan Gosling. What a cast! All have gone on to great success as adults, but Gosling especially chose his own path to become one of the most respected film actors working today.

In the course of such films as “Barbie,” “Half Nelson” and “Blue Valentine,” Gosling has been nominated for three Academy Awards and two BAFTAs, as well as six nominations from both the Screen Actors Guild and the Golden Globes, which includes a Globe win for his performance in the Damien Chazelle musical “La La Land.”

“I’ll guarantee that no one ever wants to kiss you”: Margot Robbie’s Most Embarrassing Moment is Nothing Compared to What Ryan Gosling Went Through as a Child Actor
Image
Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, in all its pink glory, concomitantly managed to blow patriarchal standards to smithereens and make audiences double down with laughter thanks to the comically genius duo of Ryan Gosling’s himbo Ken and Margot Robbie’s eponymous Mattel doll with an existential crisis.

Barbie (2023) | Warner Bros.

Hilarious as the pair was, however, in their utopian Barbieland, it was nowhere nearly as mortifying as some of the shoes the Barbie co-stars had been in as child actors.

Ryan Gosling’s Most Embarrassing Moment Takes the Cake Over Margot Robbie’s

If you think Ryan Gosling in all those ludicrously goofy Ken outfits (remember the Western cowboy ensemble and rollerblading getup?) was embarrassingly funny, think again.

That’s right, The Mickey Mouse Club was the opening gambit of Gosling’s ascent toward stardom. But over the years, the Canadian actor has come to form a mercurial relationship with Disney for a rather peculiar reason that may or may not be true.

The 16 Best Ryan Gosling Movies, from ‘The Fall Guy’ and ‘Drive’ to ‘Barbie’ and ‘Blade Runner 2049’
Image
[Editor’s note: this list was originally published in July 2023, and has since been updated.]

Ryan Gosling has that Ken-ergy. He’s Ken out of Ken. He’s Kendlessly Kentertaining. He’s the Kend all, be all. He’s the Kenvy of other actors. He’s impossible to not Kenjoy. He’s more, much more, than Kenough.

Gosling has had a long, fruitful career, but it’s safe to say that he’s never committed to a role as hard as he’s committed to the bit that was the “Barbie” press tour. Every interview and soundbite the Canadian actor gave in the publicity run for Greta Gerwig’s take on the iconic Mattel toy line has launched meme after meme, as he’s spoken about the importance of telling the tragic story of Barbie’s beau Ken. Please Netflix, Don't Mess Up Ryan Gosling's Hot Streak With This $200 Million Movie Sequel

Ryan Gosling's hot streak faces a challenge with The Gray Man 2. The project is a sequel to his first movie since 2017 to receive a low Rotten Tomatoes score. Netflix's promise to focus on quality over quantity with their tentpole franchises could potentially benefit The Gray Man 2.

Disneyland Ride Concept Art For Attractions That Were Never Built Auctioned In Beverly Hills
Image
A rare collection of artwork featuring concepts for Disneyland rides and areas that never were built has been sold at auction. Heritage Auctions handled the sales earlier this month in Beverly Hills, California.

The event spotlighted hand-drawn sketches from the Bradley/Bushman Early Disneyland Archives, which conceptualized rides and themed lands for the Disney theme park in Anaheim.

Among the theme park plans and concepts was an “Anything Can Happen” land, and plans for underwater aquariums. In the latter, guests would have walked into the mouths of the crocodile from Peter Pan or Monstro, the whale from Pinocchio, to view marine life.

Another concept detailed an 80-foot-tall statue of Goofy dressed as a clown. The colossus would have been located where the theme park’s Sleeping Beauty Castle now stands.

The “Anything Can Happen” land would’ve been based on “Anything Can Happen Day,” a weekly theme on The Mickey Mouse Club television series,...

Ryan Gosling's New Sci-Fi Movie Can Redeem His $105.7M Box Office Letdown From 6 Years Ago
Image
Ryan Gosling's new sci-fi movie, "Project Hail Mary," shares similar themes with "First Man." "First Man" was a box office failure despite positive reviews, potentially due to fierce competition and controversy. "Project Hail Mary" has the advantage of being a full-on sci-fi story and is based on a successful novel, which may help it succeed where "First Man" failed.

Ryan Gosling already has a couple of projects lined up after the success of Barbie, among them a new sci-fi movie with which he can redeem one of his most recent box office letdowns. Ryan Gosling is now regarded as one of the biggest stars in Hollywood thanks to his acting skills, charisma, and sense of humor, and he has shown his talents in movies of various genres. Gosling’s acting career started in The Mickey Mouse Club in 1993, and he made his big screen debut in 1997 in Frankenstein and Me.

Ryan Gosling: Playing a Hamster on ‘Mickey Mouse Club’ Helped Me Relate to Ken in ‘Barbie’

Receiving an Oscar nomination for playing an iconic Mattel toy might not have been on Ryan Gosling’s career bingo card a few years ago, but his performance as Ken in Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” has nevertheless turned into one of the most acclaimed roles in his filmography. By turning Ken into a himbo undergoing an identity crisis, Gosling managed to provide some of the film’s funniest moments while serving as a key piece of its emotional core.

Finding all of that in a famously neglected doll was no easy task, so Gosling looked to his own life story for inspiration. In a recent interview with Variety, Gosling explained that his background as a child actor helped him find common ground with Ken. He said that he could relate to the experience of trying on different looks and personalities on the quest to finding your true self — and pointed...

Barbie 2 Would Be A Major Career First For Ryan Gosling After 25 Years
Image
Ryan Gosling has never returned for a sequel or spin-off film in his 25-year-long career. His role as Ken in Barbie was a career-defining performance and a highlight of the film. While a sequel or spin-off might be fun, it is not necessary and probably shouldn't happen, despite the success of the first Barbie film.

If it actually happens, Barbie 2 — or even a Ken-centered spin-off — would mark a major career first for Barbie movie actor Ryan Gosling and his over 25-year-long career. The Oscar-nominated actor got his start on the Disney Channel's The Mickey Mouse Club during the mid-90s, and landed a few TV roles before starring in Sundance Film Festival's 2001 Grand Jury Prize-winner The Believer. From there, Gosling became a household name after appearing opposite Rachel McAdams in 2004's romantic drama The Notebook. The actor earned his first Academy Award nomination for 2006's indie drama Half Nelson.

Image

Carli stated that she remembered standing up for Spears when her team attempted to make her work 18-hour shifts each day of production.

“She was super busy,” Carli said. “One of the things that I thought was really important was that she had time to rehearse with the other actors.”

Carli mentioned that “the day before she was shooting, they had a giant Pepsi commercial. It was crazy.”

According to Carli, Spears’ team, at one point during the shoot, “wanted her to be recording at night after she did a full day’s work on the set.

The 17 Biggest Revelations From Britney Spears's "The Woman in Me" Memoir
Image
Britney Spears's memoir, "The Woman in Me," is one of the year's most highly anticipated book releases. Few public figures have been more scrutinized than Spears over the years. In spite of that, she's inspired much devotion from fans and fascination from the world at large.

"The Woman in Me" is a sad story, detailing how other people have controlled Spears's life since she was young. Most of us know the individual fragments of her story from tabloids - from the time she shaved her head to her release from her 13-year conservatorship in 2021 - but seeing it all laid out together makes her journey much more clear and still a bit disturbing.

In the book, Britney paints the picture of a hard-working woman who loves to sing and dance and just wants to be good, but was heavily taken advantage of throughout her life, even as she raked in millions of dollars.

Britney Spears Says Father Jamie Repeatedly Told Her She “Looked Fat,” “Infantilized” Her in Conservatorship
Image
Britney Spears says her father belittled and degraded her while in her 13-year conservatorship, which ended in 2021 but had left her feeling robot-like.

In a new cover story for People, Britney Spears briefly speaks to the magazine about her reason for doing her memoir The Woman in Me, which arrives Oct. 24. The rare interview runs alongside an extensive excerpt that traces her childhood days in The Mickey Mouse Club to making her first album to her infamous head-shaving incident and eventual 13-year conservatorship. Much of the excerpt focuses on control — how much she once had over herself and the result of having that taken away — and the way she was objectified by the industry and her father.

“I’d been eyeballed so much growing up. I’d been looked up and down, had people telling me what they thought of my body, since I was a teenager. Shaving my head...

U.S. Rep Barbara Lee on Strikes, Senate Campaign and Dissent: “I Was Called a Traitor”
Image
Of the thousands of members of Congress who have served throughout history, few will be remembered, with rare exceptions. Those who become presidents, or Speaker of the House, or have buildings named after them are less likely to be forgotten. Then there are those whose policy stands solidify their legacies. When California Representative Barbara Lee became the lone member of Congress to vote against the war in Iraq in 2001, she became a target of nonstop hate mail and death threats. Now, decades later, as she strives to become just the third Black woman in American history elected to the United States Senate, her willingness to take a stand in the face of such adversity years ago has emerged as a political asset, landing her high-profile endorsements from colleagues like Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.). In the latest THR “Power Watch” column, Lee — who was the subject of the 2020 Starz documentary Barbara...

Image
While Gary Larson's The Far Side is known for its surreal sensibilities and bizarre insights into nature, it also takes its fair share of shots at pop culture - including Disney. Starting in 1980, some of its references - such as the talking-horse sitcom Mister Ed - are now dated, but Disney's longevity means Larson's strip still has plenty to say about the movies and shows that fans know and love.

Here, then, are the ten funniest The Far Side strips which take a swipe at Disney, including everything from Dumbo to The Mickey Mouse Club, and a surprise bonus inclusion that puts a genuinely weird spin on Disney and The Far Side's relationship.

Jiminy Cricket

Gary Larson is particularly beloved by scientists, as his fascination with the natural world and the scientific process can be surprisingly deep. Larson has had multiple insects named in his honor, and his...

Simu Liu Addresses Seemingly Awkward Red Carpet Exchange With Ryan Gosling
Image
Simu Liu is clearing the air about his relationship with Ryan Gosling. On July 26, the actor addressed a tense-looking red carpet encounter with his "Barbie" costar that went viral on social media this week. Though fans were quick to assume there's some sort of beef between the actors, it appears all is well in Barbieland.

"I'd beach off with this Kenadian again in a heartbeat," Liu wrote on Instagram Stories alongside a photo of him and Gosling smiling together in pastel suits on the red carpet. "He is the best human in every way, especially when he jokes around with us on the carpet and on set, infecting all of us with his kenergy." Liu concluded his message with a note about the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, which began a few weeks after their exchange took place. "Now let's get back to the issues that matter, like supporting our striking actors...

How Barbie Could Influence the Rest of Ryan Gosling's Career
Image
Ryan Gosling has been earning rave reviews for his 100 percent committed performance as Ken in Greta Gerwig's subversive comedic hit, Barbie. The notices have been so good that many believe Gosling is likely guaranteed an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. It should come as no surprise that the actor is good, given the fact that he already has a Golden Globe Award and two Academy Award nominations, but it does prove that Gosling is an accomplished comedic performer that should play things for humor a bit more moving forward.

Gosling's career began on the more lighthearted side at the age of 13 on Disney Channel's The Mickey Mouse Club. Running from 1993-1995, the variety television allowed the actor to showcase his sense of humor along with his musical skills alongside future mega performers that included Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Justin Timberlake.

Even though the series was canceled...

Ryan Gosling Is A True Movie Star, Whatever The Box Office Says
Image
Ryan Gosling became a household name after The Notebook was released in 2004. However, despite his popularity following the hit film based on the Nicholas Sparks book of the same name, most of Gosling's movies have failed to make over $300 million at the box office. Gosling got his start as a child actor when he appeared in The Mickey Mouse Club at 13 years old. He continued booking parts in prominent television shows and films such as Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Remember the Titans before landing the role that would change his career — Noah Calhoun in The Notebook.

Following The Notebook, Gosling appeared in films such as Blue Valentine, Drive, The Big Short, La La Land, Blade Runner 2049, and First Man. Some of these movies have reached varying degrees of success, but the only one to make over $300 million was La La Land. There is no arguing with...

Ryan Gosling's Leading Man Potential Was Questioned For Breakout Role
Image
Despite being considered one of the biggest stars in the industry, Ryan Gosling reveals The Notebook director Nick Cassavetes doubted his leading man potential. The 2004 romantic drama chronicled the lives of poor lumber mill worker Noah and wealthy heiress Allie as they fall in love one summer but struggle to overcome her parents' reservations in the years that follow. Though garnering mixed reviews for its cliched writing, Gosling and Rachel McAdams' performances were praised and it has remained a fan-favorite in the near-20-years since its release.

Ahead of his role in this summer's Barbie, Gosling sat down with GQ for a career-spanning profile interview. When exploring his breakout role in The Notebook, the actor recalled that the movie's director, Nick Cassavetes, had a bizarre reason for hiring him, feeling he was not a conventional leading man. See what Gosling shared below:
