‘The Price Is Right’ Gets its Glam On With Porsche Car Prize, Shirtless Model & More
Image
The Price is Right got its glam on during the Wednesday, February 19, episode. The show had a car-azy number of cars to give away, including a Porsche. Then a model went shirtless to show off a watercraft prize during a fun episode of the show. The first game of the day was Golden Road. Contestant Jennifer was given the price of Jalapeno poppers in cents, which was $0.92. She had to guess which digit in that price was the missing digit in the coffee-making package. She guessed that it was $263, but it was $963. Jennifer had the chance to win a home office and an $80,000 Porsche but lost in the first round, which caused host Drew Carey to chuckle and usher her off the stage. Luck turned around on the game show when Aidan played Pushover and correctly guessed the price of a trip to Sweden, resulting in him winning it. During the next game,...

‘The Price Is Right’ Episode Branded ‘Stupidest Ever’ After ‘Bizarre’ Mistakes
Image
The Price Is Right viewers were left stunned after Thursday’s (December 12) episode when multiple contestants made incredible errors that cost them big prizes. Despite long-time host Drew Carey explaining the rules throughout the episode, several contestants made mistakes that some fans couldn’t believe. This included two contestants on Bidder’s Row bidding the same amount and another contestant bidding “ten-hundred.” The contestants who made it up to the stage didn’t fare much better. One contestant took on Safe Crackers yet didn’t understand that the numbers could only be used once each. Even after he won a TV, the contestant seemed surprised, telling Carey, “Oh, I did? Where is it?” Another contestant played Push Over, where the player must push the blocks until the correct price is shown in the window. This contestant continued to push all the blocks to the end, ruining any chance of winning the game.

Everything Coming to The Criterion Channel as it Launches This Month
The Criterion Channel launches Monday, replacing that void left in cinephile hearts everywhere after the shuttering of FilmStruck just four months ago.

Subscribers can expect very little difference on the new service that wasn’t previously available on the Criterion Collection’s home at FilmStruck.

The service’s core, permanent library available on launch day is the over 1,000 movies, 350 shorts and 3500 supplemental materials that make up the Janus Film library. These are the classic arthouse films that for decades have been a mainstay in DVD restorations as part of the Criterion Collection.

Also Read: Why the New Criterion Channel Streaming Service Won't Be a 'Netflix Killer'

Criterion President Peter Becker referred to The Criterion Channel as “an art house at your house,” adding that the library is made up of the “last name” filmmakers that any movie buff should know well: (Michelangelo) Antonioni, (Jean-Luc) Godard, (François) Truffaut, (Akira) Kurosawa,...

Out of the ashes of FilmStruck comes the Criterion Channel, which is launching April 8 and has announced an exciting first slate of new programming being added onto the streaming platform throughout its first month. Original series that aired on FilmStruck will be back on the Criterion Channel, including “Adventures in Moviegoing,” “Meet the Filmmakers,” and “Observations on Film Art.”

In addition to its extensive library, Criterion Channel will be adding new films daily. The first new addition to the service on April 8 will be a spotlight on Columbia Pictures’ history of film noir through 11 movies: “My Name Is Julia Ross”; “So Dark the Night” (Joseph H. Lewis, 1946); “The Big Heat” (Fritz Lang, 1953); “Human Desire” (Fritz Lang, 1954); “Drive a Crooked Road” (Richard Quine,...

All-American Dad at His Movie Best as the All-American Crook
Fred MacMurray movies: ‘Double Indemnity,’ ‘There’s Always Tomorrow’ Fred MacMurray is Turner Classic Movies’ "Summer Under the Stars" today, Thursday, August 7, 2013. Although perhaps best remembered as the insufferable All-American Dad on the long-running TV show My Three Sons and in several highly popular Disney movies from 1959 to 1967, e.g., The Absent-Minded Professor, Son of Flubber, Boy Voyage!, MacMurray was immeasurably more interesting as the All-American Jerk. (Photo: Fred MacMurray ca. 1940.) Someone once wrote that Fred MacMurray would have been an ideal choice to star in a biopic of disgraced Republican president Richard Nixon. Who knows, the (coincidentally Republican) MacMurray might have given Anthony Hopkins a run for his Best Actor Academy Award nomination. After all, MacMurray’s most admired movie performances are those in which he plays a scheming, conniving asshole: Billy Wilder’s classic film noir Double Indemnity (1944), in which he’s seduced by Barbara Stanwyck, and Wilder...

Dorothy Malone on TCM: The Last Voyage, Pushover, Warlock
Stop the presses and/or the tweets! Dorothy Malone is on tonight on Turner Classic Movies. TCM is showing six movies featuring Dorothy Malone, an actress who should have become a major movie star but inexplicably didn't. Malone had the right amount of talent, lips, ass, bosom, eyelashes, and Oscar (supporting, for Written on the Wind) — even so, she remained a (however popular) "leading lady." Check her out tonight. The TCM movies are former Hollywood Ten blacklistee-turned-informer Edward Dmytryk's Western Warlock (1959), Andrew L. Stone's disaster movie The Last Voyage (1960), actor-turned-director John Ireland's crime thriller The Fast and the Furious (1954), Henry Levin's crime drama Convicted (1950), Charles Marquis Warren's Western Tension at Table Rock (1956), and Richard Quine's crime drama Pushover (1954), which also features Kim Novak. Schedule (Pt) and synopses from the TCM website: 5:00pm [Western] Warlock (1959) A Western town hires a famous gunman to rid it...

Panique (1946)
"A Town Called Panic" and Loads of Noir on DVD
Panique (1946)
There seems to be no exhausting the raw eyeball pleasure to be had from old-fashioned handmade (or semi-handmade, or whatever) animation, and we may be well living through a pop renaissance of it.

The eruptions below the Pixar/Dreamworks budget tier have been spectacular and international, beginning perhaps with 2003's "The Triplets of Belleville," learning from Miyazaki, Oshii, Aardman and the Quays, moving on to Kim Moon-saeng's "Sky Blue," machinima, "The Corpse Bride," "A Scanner Darkly," "Persepolis," "Coraline," "Waltz with Bashir," "Fantastic Mr. Fox," "Mary & Max," "Sita Sings the Blues," "Fear(s) in the Dark," "The Secret of Kells," and now the Belgian nonpareil "A Town Called Panic."

The variety of toolboxes and styles at work seem limitless (the seductive but uniform look of pure 3D computer animation is getting tiresome just as other approaches proliferate), but it's the personal engagement that makes most of the films sing.

Many of...
