Mindy Newell: Bend Over
“I won’t be ig-nored, Dan,” said Alex Forest (Glenn Close) to her illicit lover Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas) in Fatal Attraction. And so said a large enough number of disconcerted people who were fed up with being ig-nored by the political elite gathered around the Potomac basin to swing the Electoral College vote in favor of Donald Trump. Go fuck yourselves, they said. Bend over, said Trump.

It’s been one lie after another, one alternative fact after another, and one tweet after another since the inauguration, all to assuage the ego of the malignant narcissist who sits in the oval office. His sickophants trip over each other in their eagerness to obfuscate the truth and stay in their own bubbles of power. Erstwhile enemies, thugs, and bullies are welcomed and coddled and credit is taken where it is not due. Everything is upside down and inside out. And...

A Kiss Before Dying
Robert Wagner as a social climbing psycho killer? I knew it! 'Mr. CinemaScope Smile' grins only once or twice in this movie, and then only to fool an unsuspecting woman. A great cast brings tension to Ira Levin's outrageous tale of murder. Joanne Woodward has a powerful role, but my heartthrob this time out is lovely Virginia Leith. A Kiss Before Dying Blu-ray Kl Studio Classics 1956 / Color / 2:35 widescreen / 95 min. / Street Date May 3, 2016 / available through Kino Lorber / 29.95 Starring Robert Wagner, Jeffrey Hunter, Virginia Leith, Joanne Woodward, Mary Astor, George Macready, Robert Quarry. 50 Best Comic Book Movie Adaptations
20. Story of Ricky (Lik wong) – Starring Siu-Wong Fan as the titular character, Riki Oh, based on a manga series which eventually became an anime, marks the end of an era of Japanese exploitation flicks, before the new generation of filmmakers such as Takashi Miike took over. Unlike Miike’s movies, or other recent entries such as Tokyo Gore Police, Riki Oh’s tone borders on comedy, played up by bad voice dubbing, foolish plot lines, cartoonish gore and eccentric characters (including a one-eyed assistant warden with a hook for a hand). For a prison film, the movie never seems mean-spirited, and if anything it masquerades as a bizarre superhero flick. The effects are the main draw – Riki Oh exists simply to showcase several outlandish set pieces, ramping up the level of violence, gore and action with each new scene. Made before the days of CGI, director Lam relies simply on practical effects,...

The Surprisingly Prolific Comic Book Actors
Hugh Jackman has played Logan aka Wolverine in seven different films. It’s an impressive number that will shortly increase with a third solo Wolverine film and possibly X-Men:Apocalypse, although at the time of writing he has yet to be officially cast. A few other names are snapping at the heels of Jackman, notably the cast of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If you include the forthcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron, Chris Evans has played Captain America four times (five if you include his appearance as Loki using magic to look like the first Avenger in Thor: The Dark World), Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth have portrayed Black Widow and Thor respectively four times each whilst the King of the McU, Robert Downey Jr. has made an impressive six appearances as Iron Man/Tony Stark (including his post-credit appearance in The Incredible Hulk).

Unfortunately for Hugh Jackman, as far as this article is concerned,...

CoF Presents: 15 Movies To See In 2015
The year 2015 is shaping up to be a very exciting time at the movies. Blockbuster sequels like Star Wars and Avengers plus exciting new adventures from Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese are arriving over the next year. Here is a list of the highly anticipated movies I’m looking forward to in 2015.

Please share with us the movies your most looking forward to by reaching out to us on Twitter and Facebook.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

The assembled team of superheroes return featuring Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk and two new additions, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The trailer showed a rather dark side that is sure to accompany a bigger and louder sequel. I enjoyed the first movie, but something tells me this one will top it.

Outrage Watch: Diane Warren slams Rita Ora for 'Grateful' non-promotion
Diane Warren
Welcome to the February 2 edition of Outrage Watch, HitFix's daily rundown of everything people are peeved about in entertainment. Today's top story? Diane Warren is far from "Grateful" for a certain British pop singer's non-promotion of their Oscar-nominated song. "Outraged" may be a bit of an overstatement here, but the blockbuster songwriter certainly isn't happy with "Black Widow" songstress Rita Ora, who she claims fell down in promoting the pair's Oscar-nominated song from "Beyond the Lights." "I have to be really honest, I don't want to be a jerk or anything, but had I known about this lack of support [from Ora], there are other artists I'm working with that -- if it had been up to me -- I would have gone with," Warren told The Huffington Post, noting that Ora also never responded to she and director Gina Prince-Blythewood's request to shoot a music video for the song. 50 bizarre examples of movie tie-ins and merchandise
Movie merchandise is big business. But some people will try and slap the name of The Avengers or Batman on anything...

Cool film stuff can be almost as fun as actually going to the movies. Think of a Batman cape, an Arnold Schwarzenegger action figure, or Goldeneye on the N64. Hell, the merchandising can often be more enjoyable than the actual film – remember how much fun the first few months of 1999 were before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was actually released?

Yet, in the chase to make a quick buck out of devoted fans, some... let's just say less relevant, movie merchandise is churned out and flogged to the public.

Here then are 50 of the strangest (not ranked in order!) – expect action figures of obscure henchmen, 16-carat gold Twilight jewellery and some truly vomit-inducing burgers…

1. Spider-Man 3 / The Dark Knight – Burger King’s Dark Whopper

13 Actors Who Almost Played Superheroes
There are a lot of "what ifs" in the movie business. There are so many options when it comes to casting actors to play characters in movies. Superhero films are huge right now, and I love most of the actors that studios have cast to play these badass characters. Christian Bale as Batman, Andrew Garfield aa Spider-Man, Henry Cavill as Superman, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man are just a few of many. But these characters could have easily been played by other actors. It's hard to imagine that now since we're already invested in what's in front of our eyes.

I've come up with a list of actors who almost played some of these superheroes. You may already know about some of the close calls on the list, you may not, but when I was researching for this article there were a few things I didn't know before,...

The James Clayton Column: Questions for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's future
Feature James Clayton 21 Mar 2014 - 06:02

As Captain America: The Winter Soldier arrives, James considers the future phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe...

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is imminent, and it's only a matter of days until the movie lands at your local multiplex. It will be a massive hit. After the second Steve Rogers solo outing, the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Two will continue later in the summer with Guardians Of The Galaxy. That will also be a massive hit.

Phase Two finishes with Avengers: Age Of Ultron and that's going to arrive on May Day 2015. That will be a massive hit, as will Ant-Man - directed by Edgar Wright - which will follow a couple of months later to get Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (the McU if you're into the whole brevity thing) underway.

Meanwhile, a string of upcoming live-action Netflix series will join...

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to finally have this book out in front of readers. Moon Knight is one the most fascinating characters in the Marvel library and the depths that Warren, Declan and colorist Jordie Bellaire are taking him to will...

Avengers: Endless Wartime Review
We all know Marvel rule the superhero box office at the moment – this year Iron Man 3 did really well and Thor 2 looks like it’ll be another hit for the studio, while their TV series, Agents of Shield, had a huge number of viewers tuning in when the pilot episode aired recently. And while Marvel are also the biggest comics publisher in the world, the difference between Marvel comics readers and Marvel movie/TV viewers is sizeable to say the least. So how to nab some of the fans of the movies and get them into their printed product, who don’t want to mess around with the monthly single issues? Marvel Original Graphic Novels seem to be the answer – self-contained, book-length stories that are written for this format rather than monthly issues, that don’t require an extensive knowledge of comics continuity and star the familiar movie characters.

The no-killing rule in comic book movies
Feature Mark Harrison 7 May 2013 - 07:00

Is Iron Man a cold-blooded murderer? Mark explores the eroding no-killing rule in recent comic book blockbusters...

Note: this article contains minor spoilers for Iron Man 3.

With Shane Black at the helm, Iron Man 3 is arguably the 80s action movie of the Marvel cinematic universe. It's an approach that suits Iron Man surprisingly well, and though the poetic profanity of a Lethal Weapon or Last Boy Scout hasn't been carried over to this family-friendly flick, the laissez-faire attitude to killing was already present in Marvel Studios' films.

In one scene, Tony Stark has to improvise some weaponry out of bits and bobs from a hardware store for an assault on a villain's lair. The film is set at Christmas, so one of the most memorable tools in his slap-dash arsenal is a bauble bomb, which explodes like a grenade. At one point,...

Comics: Preview Marvel Ogn Avengers: Endless Wartime

In an article over at Entertainment Weekly, it's revealed that Avengers: Endless Wartime will be the first of many original graphic novels to come from Marvel, which hasn't made any serious forays into Ogn territory since the '80s. Top 10: Comic Book Series of 2012
Like last year’s Top 10 Comics of 2011, quite a few series that were in the Top 10 New Comics of 2011 have migrated over to this list, but to my surprise many of my favourite comics of 2012 were my favourites of 2011. My criteria for selection were based on how quickly I read the comics after picking up my standing order.

1: Uncanny X-Force | Marvel | W: Rick Remender | A: Phil Noto

For the third year running – The Best X-men Series, and still my favourite comic, the inclusion of Phil Noto replacing Opena on art has done nothing to harm this comic, I’ve always been a big Noto fan ? Perfect writing, amazing artwork, it’s a shame it had to end.

2: Secret Avengers | Marvel | W: Rick Remender | A: Matteo Scalera

Started in 2010 by Ed Brubaker and Mike Deodato, Secret Avengers told the tales of Steve Rodger’s black-ops Avengers team. A bit...

The Avengers Behind-the-Scenes New Featurette
Here’s the featurette showing the digital effects work of Ilm — the lead vendor who shared responsibility for creating many of the film’s key effects, on the major battle sequence in The Avengers.

For over thirty years, Industrial Light & Magic (Ilm) is a division of Lucasfilm Ltd., which was recently purchased by Disney for $4.05 billion.

The video focuses on the battle in New York at the end of the film, how this final battle scene was constructed and how difficult it was to have all the superheroes together on one screen finally. Everything we see in the battle is simulated and computer generated like New York itself is a digital panoramic or virtual New York so that the actors can perform their duties anywhere within the city.

The third-largest box office hit of all time, Marvel’s The Avengers is written and directed by Joss Whedon and stars Robert Downey Jr.,...

Women of Whedonverse - T-Shirt Art
Joss Whedon always comes up with great strong female characters in the stories he tells, and here's a cool t-shirt design that displays most of them. The only character that doesn't really belong here is Black Widow, because she's technically not really one of Whedon's characters. Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer should be included instead. Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch

If you liked Avengers, then you’ll undoubtedly love this: Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch’s 26-issue epic which re-imagines the formation of the Avengers and directly inspired many of the movie’s elements, from Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury to the naming of the Chitauri. Hitch’s...

‘Sin City’; ‘Mr. Toad’; ‘Muppets 2′; New Pixar films & ‘Battle Angel’ update
Dimension Films has announced that deals have been made and casting is underway on a sequel to Sin City –the film on which director Robert Rodriguez exited the DGA because they would not let creator Frank Miller share directorial credit.

Since Disney has had a huge success in turning their Pirates of the Caribbean ride into four movies (and counting), they’ve decided to adapt Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride -one their longest-running attractions- into a live action/CGI feature film. By the way, elements of Kenneth Grahame’s 1908 classic children’s book The Wind in the Willows have been adapted before by Disney, in particular the 1949 film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. And the ride is one of the few attractions that are still running at park since it opened in 1955. Pete Candeland, a commercial and video helmer, has been hired to direct, but the project is still seeking a writer.

Guy Pearce All Aboard On The ‘Iron Man 3′ Train As ‘Extremis’ Storyline Takes Shape
As audiences are bracing themselves for The Avengers to be released on May 4, pre-production is moving briskly for Iron Man 3. Guy Pearce has just been cast to play Aldrich Killian, a geneticist seen in the story, Iron Man: Extremis, one of the more essential, modern-day stories told in the Iron Man comics, written by fan-favorite scribe Warren Ellis and stunning art by Adi Granov.

Pearce, who can currently be seen in Lockout and in Prometheus this summer, will fit perfectly in this role and finally make his Marvel Studios film debut. It was always my dream casting that Pearce would play Daredevil one day. He has the acting chops and slender but muscular build that Matt Murdock exhibits in the comics. He was offered the role for the 2003 film because it “wasn’t his cup of tea” and turned it down. The role eventually went to Ben Affleck...

Guy Pearce Joins the Cast of Iron Man 3
More news on the Iron Man 3 casting front this week, although if you are hoping for something that might shed some light on Ben Kingsley's mysterious role, you're in for a disappointment. Guy Pearce has landed a role in the upcoming comic book flick, and it would appear that he won't have superpowers or wear a mechanical suit. According to Variety, he will play a geneticist by the name of Aldrich Killian. In the comics, Killian worked for Futurepharm and was the creator of Extremis, a nanotech virus that grants enhanced healing and immunity. The first subject to be injected with Extremis was Mallen, a terrorist who ended up becoming the main villain of the story arc. It's becoming quite clear that Iron Man 3 will draw heavily from Warren Ellis' Extremis story, but it's still not clear who the primary villain will be. Ben Kingsley was cast as an unnamed villain,...

Guy Pearce Joins Iron Man 3 As Dr. Aldrich Killian
Iron Man 3 is gearing up to start filming next month in North Carolina and casting news is coming in thick and fast now.

On the back of the news a fortnight ago that Ben Kingsley will play the villain, comes news from Variety that Guy Pearce is close to taking a role in the next chapter of Marvel’s ever-expanding filmic universe.

Pearce would play Dr. Aldrich Killian in the film, a genius scientist who was a key player in the Warren Ellis 2005 comic book storyline “Extremis”, which is all but confirmed as being the blueprint for Iron Man 3.

Killian works at Futurepharm with Maya Hansen where the Extremis virus is developed through nanobots and forces the human brain to re-work the healing center and become stronger. The virus was developed for the military but they instead hand it over to terrorists.

So it’s a baddie part...

'Iron Man 3' Casting Call Announced In North Carolina
With Ben Kingsley in talks to play a villain in "Iron Man 3," the casting crew on the flick is looking to fill out some smaller roles. A casting call has been posted for the shoot, which is going under the alias "Caged Head," and some lucky extras who live in the Raleigh area are going to have a chance to join the flick.

So far Kingsley is the only new name attached to the project. Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson are all set to return to "Iron Man 3," which Shane Black is directing. Filming is set to start later this month, so the extras are going to be cast over the weekend.

The full casting call as it was posted by the "Caged Heat" Facebook page reads as follows:

Ben Kingsley Makes 'Iron Man 3' Even Better
Apparently, "Iron Man 3" is going to be one big glorious apology for "Iron Man 2."

"Iron Man 2" wasn't a bad film. It just … wasn't particularly very good. It felt rushed (it was) and underloved, a movie that no one but Marvel Studios wanted so hot on the heels of the first (and excellent) "Iron Man." Sam Rockwell stole the show as the villainous Justin Hammer and Scarlett Johansson looked hot as Black Widow, but Mickey Rourke flailed about in an underwritten (and severely underdirected) role, and the overall plot was just … eh.

"Iron Man 3," however, is shaping up nicely now that Marvel is taking its time with Tony Stark's third adventure (or is just too distracted by the impending mega-hit that is "The Avengers," opening May 4). Jon Favreau has (understandably) left the director's chair and been replaced by Shane Black, who helped pave the way for Robert Downey Jr....

Ben Kingsley To Play Villain in Iron Man 3
Ben Kingsley is always game to play a big screen villain. Who can forget his Oscar nominated tough but utterly bonkers hardman Don Logan in the excellent Brit gangster Sexy Beast? Or his gusto portrayals of menacing foes Nizam in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time or The Hood in Thunderbirds, performances which were a thousand times better than the films they lived in?

And now in a long overdue move, Sir Ben is close to joining the Marvel Universe’s cast of fearsome baddies with Variety reporting that the seasoned these has entered talks to play an unnamed villain in Shane Black’s (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) soon to be shooting Iron Man 3.

Before your brain gets carried away, the word from insiders is he ain’t playing the Mandarin, which is a shame as he would be perfect for the role. Instead Marvel have confirmed that...

Ben Kingsley to Play Villain in Iron Man 3!
It looks like Ben Kingsley is going to be taking on the role of the main villain in Shane Black's Iron Man 3! How awesome is that! The actor is in final negotiations for the role which has yet to be revealed, but Variety makes a point to say that it will not be Tony Stark's arch nemesis the Mandarine. The go on to say that "Kingsley’s character is involved in the spread of a virus through nanobots." This makes perfect sense as we've previously heard that this next Iron Man movie is loosely based on Warren Ellis’ Extremis comicbook series.

Kingsley is an amazing actor that's going to be perfect in this film. I guess there's two possible characters that he could end up playing. I guess it depends on what they end up taking from the Extremis storyline. He could end up playing a modified version...

SXSW '12: Joss Whedon Talks Challenges of The 'Avengers,' Potentially Resurrecting Old Horror Epic 'Goners,' And How 'Cabin In The Woods' Came To Be
Today at South by Southwest, there was a panel with "Cabin in the Woods" director Joss Whedon (the screening the night before brought the house down – Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford were still talking about it today!), wherein the fan favorite writer/director talked about his intentions for the film, why he fled the Hollywood system (or at the very least distanced himself to the point that he's working parallel to it), the state of his big-budget horror movie "Goners," the pluses and minuses of working with an inflated budget, and his personal little art film, "The Avengers."

On "Cabin in the Woods," Whedon noted that he had written the story in a fit with co-writer/director Drew Goddard, "before 'Dr. Horrible;' we wrote and sold it just before the writer's strike." The two locked themselves in a hotel room where Whedon says he cranked out 26 pages in a...

SXSW: Joss Whedon says 'The Avengers' villains are Not the Skrulls or the Kree
One of the most tantalizing mysteries about Marvel Studios’ The Avengers has been the identity of the mysterious creatures at the heart of the film’s world invasion plot. Are they the Skrulls? The Kree? The reptilian baddies from Galaxy Quest?

Turns out, it’s none of the above. At “A Conversation with Joss Whedon” at the SXSW festival, I asked the Avengers’ writer-director to identify finally who these rogues are. “It’s the Vulcans,” Whedon joked. “I don’t know a lot about the Marvel universe, and I thought there were Vulcans. I know we’re going to get...

Top 10: Comic Book Series of 2011
A lot of last year’s Top 10 New Series have made it over to this year’s Top 10 Comics of 2011. Placement is really down to how quickly I read the comic once I’ve bought it; I think I’ve read more issues of Uncanny X-Force either standing in the comic shop or on the train home than anything else.

1: Uncanny X-Force | Marvel | W: Rick Remender | A: Jerome Opena

I said it last year and will say it again – The Best X-men Series, despite stiff competition from Uncanny X-Men, X-Men Legacy and Generation Hope. 19 issues in and still my favourite comic from Marvel. I love how Remender incorporates work done by other Marvel creative teams like Deathlok from Aaron’s Weapon X, and the Age of Apocalypse crossovers from back in the day. Uncanny X-Force is visually one of the most striking comics on the racks due to the work of Jerome Opena,...

What we know so far about Iron Man 3
Iron Man 3 may still be two years away, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make a few predictions about what to expect. Here’s James’ list of what we know so far…

The trailer for The Avengers might have brought together the likes of Samuel L Jackson, and the Chrises Evans and Hemsworth (aka Nick Fury, Captain America and Thor), but the star of the trailer – the one with the best lines, the best suits and the most awe-inspiring action shots – was undoubtedly Robert Downey Jr, whose performance as Tony Stark in Iron Man is still the benchmark for Marvel movies.

It was in the Iron Man movies that the prospect of Avengers was first floated. It was the first in which we saw Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury, and in its sequel, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow. Indeed, despite close links between Thor and Captain America’s continuity,...

Avengers (1999)
Ten Avengers who won't be getting their own Marvel movies any time soon
Avengers (1999)
"The Avengers" hits theaters next year, bringing some of Marvel Comics' most popular superheroes together on one screen. Not only will the film feature solo stars Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and Hulk, but it will also include characters like Black Widow and Hawkeye whose presence in Marvel's cinematic universe have been relegated to cameos thus far.

However, those are far from the only members of the Avengers roster that Hollywood can chose from. As one of Marvel's oldest superhero teams, it's almost easier to name the Marvel Comics characters who haven't held an Avengers ID at one point or another.

And while some of the names on the Avengers roster could certainly factor into the upcoming film and future Marvel movies, there are quite a few characters who it's safe to assume will never make the leap to page to screen.

From a bikini-clad tigress to a time-traveling gunslinger,...
