Gilliatt, a fisherman-turned-smuggler on Guernsey is offered a pardon if he agrees to sail to France on his ship the Sea Devil, to rescue Droucette, an English agent whose cover has been blown, and who has now been jailed.

Gilliatt, a fisherman-turned-smuggler on the isle of Guernsey, agrees to transport a beautiful woman to the French coast in the year 1800. She tells him she hopes to rescue her brother from the guillotine. Gilliatt finds himself falling in love and so feels betrayed when he later learns this woman is a countess helping Napoleon plan an invasion of England. In reality, however, the "countess" is an English agent working to thwart this invasion. after Gilliatt finds this out, he returns to France to rescue the woman whose true purpose has been discovered by the French.—dinky-4 of Minneapolis

In 1800, fishermen Gilliatt and Willie are working as smugglers and stop for a rest on the Channel Island of Guernsey. There they are surprised by a beautiful woman who is looking for an aristocrat named Lethierry. They lead the woman to him, unaware that she is an English spy. Her name is Droucette, and she is supposed to help prevent Napoleon from invading Great Britain. When Gilliatt is supposed to take her away from the island on his boat, he falls in love with Droucette and becomes part of the political intrigues between England and France.—Arte
