There’s no denying that platformers have played a major role in gaming history, but it’s also true that good ones are few and far between. That’s especially true these days, where first-person shooters and large scale action-adventure games have stolen the limelight from the genre that Mario defined. Perhaps it’s because it’s so hard to make a great one, what with the need for precise controls, near flawless jumping mechanics and a unique draw to set it apart from the many others out there. Or, maybe it’s just a sign of the times.
Like Nintendo and Ubisoft, to an extent, Flying Wild Hog and Nordic Games aren’t willing to let the sidescrolling dream die. Their latest — a PS3, Xbox 360 and PC digital download bearing the strange name of Juju — harkens back to the platformers of yesteryear, while mixing together mechanics that borrow from both the past and present.

Bandai Namco has unveiled a new trailer for 90s-inspired romp Shadow Warrior, which is due to launch across PlayStation 4 and Xbox One next Tuesday, September 23rd.
Billed as the next-gen release of the game’s PC debut last year, Flying Wild Hogs will look to bring series protagonist Lo Wang to the next generation of consoles with aplomb. And, in a post through PlayStation Blog, Artur Maksara — the studio’s level designer — hinted at the kind of bombastic action that fans can expect come release.
“Shadow Warrior is a bold reimagining of the classic 3D Realms’ shooter from independent developer Flying Wild Hog starring the legendary and quick-witted warrior Lo Wang. Combine the brute force of overwhelming firepower with the elegant precision of a katana to annihilate the merciless armies of the shadow realm in an exhilarating and visually stunning transformation of the classic first-person shooter.”

Flying Wild Hogs’ bombastic reboot of 3D Realms’ ultra-violent shooter, Shadow Warrior, is getting the next-gen treatment, as Majesco Entertainment announced plans to bring the cult classic to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this September.
Teaming up with Devolver Digital — publisher behind a litany of indie titles, including Hotline Miami — the distributing duo will shepherd the game onto current-gen consoles, where it will be priced at $39.99 in the States. As for other territories, it’s unclear whether Shadow Warrior will launch at a similar price point.
Nevertheless, in a statement, Jesse Sutton, CEO of Majesco trumpeted the rerelease as the perfect experience for fans of the 90s romp:
“Shadow Warrior turns the 90s nostalgia meter way up, delivering big guns, big blades and big attitude laced with humour. This is a must have title for every kind of fan: those who loved the original game, Fps enthusiasts and players looking for...

Reviving a 2.5D shooter franchise into the modern day is difficult. Making a comedic game with humor that doesn’t get stale is even more difficult. Shadow Warrior, a remake of 3D Realms Duke Nukem 3D protege, manages to succeed where other remakes have failed.
Both the gameplay and premise are simple enough to quickly grasp.
Play-wise, it’s similar to Flying Wild Hog’s Hard Reset and other strafe and shoot games like Serious Sam and Painkiller. Rather than your ducking for cover and waiting to restore health like so many other games, Shadow Warrior has the classic run and gun affair with a variety of weapons and plenty of sword play.
Just like the gameplay itself, the story is a modern update of the classic Fps genre. You play Lo Wang, a ninja-like mercenary who must deliver a mystical sword to his employer, Zilla. Suffice to say you...

The 90s Fps classic is back in rebooted form, but should you still not mess with Lo Wang?
Back in the 90s the first person shooter was galvanised by a selection of critically important titles that spearheaded the genre's rise into the massively popular slice of gaming it is today. Without these titles there'd be no Call of Duty, Battlefield or even Half Life, and we owe a lot to these ground-breaking releases.
We all know the importance of the likes of Doom and Quake, as well as the excellent Duke Nukem 3D, which took the genre into a less serious, but also more technically proficient place, but there were other, arguably less well known titles that also graced the Fps genre. Rise of the Triad was one such title, which has recently been brought back into the fold (see our review), and another is Shadow Warrior.

The reboot of classic Fps Shadow Warrior is now open for pre-orders, and Lo Wang comes with benefits...
Most gamers will remember, or at least be aware of classic Fps stars such as the Doom guy and Duke Nukem, but how many remember wise-cracking racial stereotype, Lo Wang of Shadow Warrior fame? I'm willing to bet not a lot of younger gamers. This is a shame, as 3D Realms' Shadow Warrior was every bit as impressive in its day as Duke Nukem 3D, and it packed in ridiculous and crude one-liners, sanguinary melee combat and some great, unique weapons. Who could forget the mini nuke, complete with a countdown that terrified opponents in multiplayer matches? One thing was for sure, you no mess with Lo Wang!

If you’ve hunted around for movie bargains, you’ve probably seen some of Mill Creek Entertainment’s 50-Movie Packs on DVD. Apart from other great releases by Mill Creek, these packs are phenomenal boons to cinephiles looking to collect older titles.
There are three new packs available, and I want to not only let you in on a discount code, but I have one of the packs available for you to win.
I know a lot of people may be quick to overlook these packs, and not every movie included stands out as a major value, but there are some great titles in each of them, and fans of the genres will be pleasantly surprised by what they get out of the deal. I have to admit that there is something about seeing a 50-movie pack, especially when it doesn’t cost a couple of hundred dollars, or more,...

Flying Wild Hog. That's the bizarre name – how do they come up with these? – of a recently formed Polish game studio. You may not recognize the name right away, but you'll definitely recognize the prior work of the developers behind the group. The studio is comprised of former People Can Fly ("Bulletstorm") and CD Projekt ("The Witcher 2") team members, hoping to apply their knowledge to a new sci-fi game, "Hard Reset." The game was vaguely mentioned a month back, but today we get our first glimpse at a short teaser trailer.
At first glance, "Hard Reset" definitely has me thinking "Blade Runner." Something about those neon-lit streets, the ominous skyscrapers, and flying vehicles immediately invoke thoughts of replicants. There's not much else to discern from the new trailer posted on the game's site, but according to the "Hard Reset" Facebook page, it turns out the game definitely doesn't have anything...

Two cable shows delivered impressive premiere numbers for their respective networks: Syfy’s Being Human and Discovery Channel’s Flying Wild Alaska both spiked high for their first airings.
Flying Wild delivered 2.6 million viewers for its first episode at 9 p.m. on Friday and an even better 3.5 million for its second hour at 10 p.m. In some demos, this marks Discovery’s best series launch yet. By comparison, the premiere of another recent series, Gold Rush Alaska, opened with 2.9 million viewers.
