La Couronne de fer (1941)

Trivia

La Couronne de fer

Edit
Massimo Girotti plays two different roles in the film: Licinio and Arminio. His voice is dubbed over for both parts, as Licinio by Augusto Marcacci and as Arminio by Gualtiero De Angelis.
Renowned cinephile Elliot Stein listed this as one of his top ten or twelve films.
Is regarded as the third in a tetralogy of films by director Alessandro Blasetti deleting with mythological films, following Ettore Fieramosca (1938) and Une aventure de Salvator Rosa (1939) and preceding La farce tragique (1942).
Produced during World War 2, under the auspices of Benito Mussolini's fascist regime. Two of the film's actors, a pregnant Luisa Ferida and her partner Osvaldo Valenti, were arrested by the Italian resistance upon the liberation of Milan on 25 April 1945 and executed 5 days later due to their proximity with the regime. They were later the subject of the film Une histoire italienne (2008).
Was one of the most expensive Italian films ever made at the time of release, and an unusually large scale production for director Alessandro Blasetti, best known for working on location with non-professional actors rather than on massive sets with thousands of extras.
