South of Suez (1940)

Trivia

South of Suez

Edit
According to contemporary articles in The Hollywood Reporter, George Raft was originally cast as John Gamble, but he turned down the role because he didn't like the story. Warner Bros. then assigned Dennis Morgan, but RKO objected because Morgan was to be loaned out for Kitty Foyle (1940). Warner Bros. then suspended Raft and the production was delayed to re-write the role to suit George Brent.
Two cast members in studio records/casting call lists did not appear or were not identifiable in the movie. These were (with their character names): Charles C. Wilson (Guard) and Frank Hagney (Miner). In addition Abner Biberman was listed as a cast member in copyright records, but he wasn't seen in the movie either.
Unusually for the era, the film has a brief cold open before the opening credits appear.
According to a contemporary article in The Hollywood Reporter, Lee Patrick replaced Geraldine Fitzgerald in the role of Delia.
The East African home of the Snedekers is also used as the Crosbies' Malayan plantation home in "The Letter", made the same year by Warner Brothers.
