    Barbara's Jaunt Costly

    by Sheila Graham

Hollywood, April 24--Barbara Stanbwyck's jaunt to Nebraska for the premiere of Cecil B. De Mille's "Union Pacific" will cost Paramount all of $8,000. Barbara is currently making "Golden Boy" for Columbia. The latter studio said "nothing doing" when Paramount wanted them to stop shooting so that the "Union Pacific" star could make the trip with the other members of the company.. A little pressure was brouight to bear from the theater exhibitors in Nebraska--in the shape of a boycott of the Columbia product--unlessBarvbara was given leave of absence. This, added to Paramount's promise to pay the entire cost of the "Golden Boy" stoppage, resulted in an "okay" from Columbia.

Barbara will travel on a fast train with Joel McCrea, Betty Grable and Judith Barrett. The rest of the cavalcade--De Mille, George Raft, Robert Preston and many other top stars--will make the journey on the train featured in the picture, which has a top speed of 28 miles an hour. Paramount is still trying to persuade Barbara to crown the publicity event by marrying Robert Taylor at the height of the premiere's festivities.
