    Woefulty Shirley Temple imitation

Apparently Binkie Stuart was discovered by Monty Banks as England's answer to Shirley Temple.Well he could have chosen a speak your weight machine and it would have it over Stuartd. She can't act, speaking every valuable slowly almost in a Salem like voice. Her curly hair is a copy of that worn by Temple. She can't sing. She can dance a little but seems a bit distracted. She looks off camera, maybe she is being coached by the director.Maureet O Had a makes an early appearance in her illustrious career. The story involved a tug of war over the child because someone is foolish enough to pay her money to perform.I would have paid money not to see her perform.

    Crude but charming

The raw ingenuousness of this primitive film makes it a charmer in my book. Child actress Binky Stuart is adorable. The wildly illogical plot is a fairytale that allows the characters to leave Ireland's poverty (for reasons that don't stand up to scrutiny), experience the luxury of New York City (a, and then return to the beauty and simplicity of their previous lives, happier and wiser. There is the wicked aunt threatening the happiness of cute child, the lovely colleen (almost unrecognizable young Maureen O'Hara)pledged to one man but loving another, etc. etc. Much fun!

    poor

A vain attempt to find another Shirley Temple. Not even Maureen O'Hara,in her days before Hollywood stardom, could save this film from being embarrassingly bad.
