The title is a parody of the international movement of Boy Scouts started by Lord Robert Baden-Powell in 1908, a few months after the first scout encampment at Brownsea Island Scout camp in 1907.
This short was nominated for an Academy Award, alongside other Disney cartoons "Brave Little Tailor" and "Mother Goose Goes Hollywood". All three lost to another Disney short, "Ferdinand the Bull".
The original title card to this short, for unknown reasons, was replaced with a more generic card in reissues, making it one of the handful of cartoons to have suffered this situation (others include "Symphony Hour", "How to Play Football", and "Rugged Bear").
A number of scenes from the short were cut when it was broadcast in the "Have A Laugh!" segment on Disney Channel due to time constraints.
This short was the first Academy Award nomination for the Donald Duck series.
