Several of the characters' names are spoofs on the names of Disney staff members. H.U. Hennesy is a spoof on Disney artist Hugh Hennesy, J. Harold King probably refers to director Jack King, and Leslie J. Clark is a play on the name of another Disney artist, Les Clark.
It's possible that this short was inspired by the MGM Cartoons short, Qui a tué qui? (1943), as it shares some similarities in addition to differences with it.
Ajax the Gorilla from Donald Duck and the Gorilla (1944) makes a cameo.
Pauline bears a resemblance to the MGM cartoon character, Red Hot Riding Hood.
