- Jack Higgins: [Blackie and Higgins are discussing the $50,000 and Higgins is in disguise] Keep guessing Blackie, I never admit anything
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: And I don't give up 50 grand just because someone knows I'm Blackie
- Jack Higgins: How about a guy who's wanted for murder. You know Blackie when I was in school I was head man in my clique club
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: No
- Jack Higgins: Mmm. And I can sing louder than an operatic soprano
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: When you were in school did the teacher call you Higgins?
- Jack Higgins: [Anxiously] Higgins?
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Yes Jack Higgins forger and safecracker. Alias Dewey Turner, alias Waldo Hubbard, alias Joe Manning and alias a lot others
- Jack Higgins: Hey you're crazy
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Well maybe but not near-sighted. You know that's a very phony looking moustache you're wearing
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Arthur? Arthur?
- Constance Gloria Mannard: [Gloria holds Blackie at gun point] Put 'em up Blackie
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Gloria.
- [Jack Higgins comes over]
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Well what a charming combination. Constance Gloria Mannard and Jack Higgins. The Lady and the Lug.
- Jack Higgins: Save your breath
- Constance Gloria Mannard: I said put 'em up.
- [Blackie puts his hands up]
- Constance Gloria Mannard: And remember I haven't the slightest hesitation about firing
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: The way you fired at Steve Cubacker?
- Constance Gloria Mannard: Wouldn't you like to know.
- [Police sirens blare outside]
- Constance Gloria Mannard: Police! Step back.
- [Blackie steps back]
- Constance Gloria Mannard: . Jack get out quickly the back way
- Jack Higgins: How about you?
- Constance Gloria Mannard: Don't worry about me I'll take care of myself now get out
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Yeah run along you big hero she'll attend to everything she has the brains.
- [Higgins turns around and is about to punch Blackie]
- Constance Gloria Mannard: Jack! Get out
- [Higgins leaves]
- Constance Gloria Mannard: Blackie just left. He had to go somewhere with the 50 thousand dollars
- The Runt: [In a clever tone] Uh uh you're just saying that to get rid of me. I know Blackie didn't have a cent on him
- Constance Gloria Mannard: Oh yes he did. It was in an envelope. I saw him put it in his pocket
- The Runt: Did he tell you that?
- Constance Gloria Mannard: Mmm-hmm
- The Runt: [Chuckles] That's Blackie he's always clowning
- [continues chuckling]
- Constance Gloria Mannard: [Concerned] Well it didn't seem to me like he was clowning
- The Runt: That's why Mr Manleder wants to see Blackie today. He's getting very fidgety about that cabbage in the apartment. He wants to get in the bank.
- [Gloria is not amused]
- The Runt: You think I'm kidding don't you. Well I saw Mr Manleder put that money in the safe himself just before I left
- Constance Gloria Mannard: [Gloria pretends to be relieved] Well I'm glad Blackie was only joking
- The Runt: Well of course you don't think Blackie's crazy enough to carry a bank roll like that around with him do you? Well so long I'll be seeing you
- [the Runt leaves]
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: [Having pretended to be Mr Kittredge] Well if I fooled you I guess I can fool your customers
- Arthur Manleder: Customers? You mean to say you want to take Kittrege's place?
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Why not it's just for the auction?
- The Runt: Oh but Blackie you don't know anything about books
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Oh but the beautiful blonde in the shop knows everything about books
- The Runt: Uh - huh
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: So I'll let her in on the gag, conduct the auction and nobody will be the wiser
- Arthur Manleder: Oh Blackie if you can do this you'll solve all my problems
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Well I'll do it on one condition; that you stay out of the shop. If I ever see you I'll laugh
- The Runt: And Mr Manleder I'm going to keep you company cause if I see this I'm going to laugh
- [the Runt and Blackie laugh]
- Arthur Manleder: Oh good heavens don't you laugh
- [they all laugh]
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: [Blackie has just arrived at Jack Higgins's hide out and is greeted by Diz] Is Higgins in?
- [Blackie is invited in]
- Jack Higgins: [Higgins appears from behind a door with a gun] Put 'em up Blackie and keep 'em there.
- [Blackie puts his hands up]
- Jack Higgins: Frisk him
- Diz: [Diz gets Blackie's gun] Here
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: I was under the impression we were going to talk business
- Jack Higgins: It's business alright only I'm doing the talking. Smart guy huh? So you didn't bring the money with you
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: How did you find that out?
- Jack Higgins: You'd like to know wouldn't you. I also know where it is. How do you like that?
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: I think you're a very smart young man. Why don't you go and get it?
- Jack Higgins: Maybe I will. Sit down. Go to work
- [Blackie sits down]
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Very comfortable little place you have here
- Jack Higgins: Glad you like it, 'cause you're going to be with us quite a while
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: You're wasting your time. If the police don't here from me in a few minutes this joint will be hotter than a firecracker
- Jack Higgins: [laughs] You make me laugh Blackie. The cops want you worse than they want me
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Perhaps I can offer you a little deal?
- Jack Higgins: I'm through making deals with you Blackie
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: You're no nearer that cash than you ever were. I might be able to help
- Jack Higgins: You can help, by sitting there and being a good boy. After I get what I want maybe Diz will let you off the leash. So long sucker
- [Higgins leaves]
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Mind if I smoke?
- Diz: You got any?
- [Diz gets excited]
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Yes right here in the pocket
- [Diz takes a cigar and tries it]
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: One of them's for me
- Diz: Oh excuse me
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: That's alright. Thank you
- [Diz doesn't light Blackie's cigar]
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: . You light them you know
- Diz: Oh my error
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: That's alright
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: [Blackie has just pretended to shoot Jack Higgins dead in front of Gloria much to her shock but really The Runt has just knocked him out. Blackie is forcing Gloria to write a confession] I Killed Steven Cubacker otherwise known as Porter Hadley. Cubacker and I were involved in a counterfeiting swindle which involved a rare edition of Dickens' Pickwick Papers. That's good.
- [while Blackie is getting Gloria to write the confession Higgins has regained consciousness and is slowly untying himself]
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Boston Blackie had no connection to this affair. I alone am responsible for Cubacker's death. Now sign it.
- [Gloria initially refuses but Blackie points his gun at her]
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: . Sign it! Thank you.
- Jack Higgins: [Higgins has fully untied himself and has grabbed a gun from a nearby drawer and holds Blackie at gunpoint] Up Blackie.
- Constance Gloria Mannard: [Shocked] Jack! Alright Blackie give me the confession.
- [Blackie hands over the confession]
- Constance Gloria Mannard: And drop the gun too
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: I don't see why theres nothing in it but blank cartridges
- [Blackie fires the gun distracting Higgins and the two of them get into a fight. Higgins initially gets the upperhand but is soon overpowered. Gloria also burns the confession she wrote]
- Insp. John Farraday: [Farraday, Matthews and two other police officers burst in just as Blackie punches Higgins into them] Well Jack Higgins, we've been looking for you. Get him out of here.
- [Higgins is lead away by the two officers]
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: You surprised Inspector?
- Insp. John Farraday: Yeah a little. Blackie you're not only wanted for murder but you've got yourself mixed up with a cheap jail breaker
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: You don't want me Inspector. There's the real killer; Gloria Mannard, Kittredge's assistant in the book shop
- Constance Gloria Mannard: [Acting innocently] Oh Inspector this is the second time I have to thank you for arriving just in time. I was in the kitchen when I heard the commotion and found the two men fighting
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Inspector this girl happens to be the wife of Jack Higgins, she killed Cubacker. She signed a confession
- Constance Gloria Mannard: [Pretending to be confused] A confession?
- Insp. John Farraday: Where is the confession Blackie?
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Well she thinks she burned it
- [Blackie hands Farraday a piece of paper]
- Constance Gloria Mannard: Cubacker was a double-crosser that's why!
- Insp. John Farraday: Is that why you shot him? Oh so that's it.
- [He opens the paper to find it blank]
- Insp. John Farraday: Why you.
- Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Now you've got your confession Inspector and Matthews heard it. Unfortunately Ms Mannard burned the real one
- Constance Gloria Mannard: [She sees the blank paper and tried to attack Blackie] What are you?
- Insp. John Farraday: Get her out of here Mattthews
- Constance Gloria Mannard: Get your hands off me flatfoot!
- [Gloria is taken away by Matthews]
