Story based on the Kelley Roos novel If the Shroud Fits (1941); in Roos's book series the main characters are named Jeff and Haila Troy. They are the same characters who appear in Une nuit inoubliable (1942) with Brian Aherne and Loretta Young playing mystery writer Jeff and his wife Nancy Troy.
Working titles: "Restless Lady" and "The Case of the Dangerous Blondes."
The following year, stars Allyn Joslyn and Evelyn Keyes made a film considered an unofficial sequel: Strange Affair (1944). Their characters have different names, and they are a comic strip artist and his wife who investigate a murder.
Evelyn Keyes' character laments "four points!" for a tiny pot roast in the oven, reflecting WWII U.S. rationing, where a small roast (1-2 lbs) cost about 4 ration points, as beef required 7-12 points per pound.
