This is the seventh and last of the Michael Shayne mysteries produced by Fox with Lloyd Nolan as the Brett Halliday gumshoe.
Fox paid Raymond Chandler $3500 for the screen rights to "The High Window," which was remade five years later as "The Brasher Doubloon."
The film was approved by the Code, because there was nothing to be censored. The members of the Code thought the 1947 remake with George Montgomery and Nancy Guild would be the same and they approved, However, that version included talking about rape, lots of sexual innuendos, girl would like to stay in his house alone with a man, kiss more than 10 seconds, sexual caress, etc...
Final film of Clara Horton.
