Johnny Depp Plays Gibberish-Speaking Puffin in Next Film
Image
Johnny Depp continues to explore a path to a comeback since his 2022 defamation suit victory against ex-wife Amber Heard. Next up: playing a gibberish-speaking puffin.

No, it’s not a return to Pirates of the Caribbean, the franchise that made him one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars. Nor does another spin in Captain Jack Sparrow’s hat look to be in the cards — despite producer Jerry Bruckheimer voicing a desire to reboot the series.

Depp, 61, did headline a 2023 feature — the period drama Jeanne du Barry, in which he played Louis Xv. It premiered at Cannes that year and was met with middling reviews.

Next, Depp returns to feature animation, a format that served him well in films like 2005’s Corpse Bride and 2011’s Rango. In Johnny Puff: Secret Mission, Depp plays a fedora-wearing puffin living in a town in the arctic who goes to battle with the evil Otto von Walrus.

‘Wonder Woman’ Bonus Scene: Etta Candy Recruits Steve Trevor’s Crew for a Top-Secret Mission
David Thewlis, Saïd Taghmaoui, and Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman (2017)
If there was anything truly wrong about Wonder Woman, it’s that there wasn’t nearly enough Etta Candy. Lucy Davis‘ scene-stealing performance as the buoyant and bullish secretary was delightful every time she was on screen, and provided much of the levity for the film. And she’s back in action, this time recruiting Steve Trevor’s band of […]

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Graces Vanity Fair With Four Different Covers!
As of this writing, we’re less than seven months away from the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. This is a big deal not just because it’s a Star Wars film, and not just because it’ll be following up 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but because it will act as a sign off for Princess Leia. This adds an already-ungodly amount of pressure on the flick, but that’s not to say it isn’t up to the task.

In order to truly create something worth making, the emphasis will always be on the characters. From Rey, to Luke, to Poe, and Finn, the first film did a great job of setting the foundation of things to come. With The Last Jedi, we will be seeing these characters move apart forward, and in a new set of covers for Vanity fair, we’re seeing...

Recommended New Books on Filmmaking: Princess Leia, Alfred Hitchcock, Going Rogue, and More
The world of film-related books has been dominated by Star Wars for the last two years, and that’s not a bad thing. With insightful authors like Pablo Hidalgo and gorgeous efforts like Star Wars: Galactic Maps, there has never been a better time to be force-crazed. This month is no exception, but you’ll also find new releases about Hitchcock, the Marx Brothers, and even two involving X-Files prequels. Let’s start with a book that took on new relevance just weeks after its release.

The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher (Blue Rider Press)

Carrie Fisher’s The Princess Diarist, a hilarious and touching look at her life as Star Wars icon Princess Leia, was a must-read even before the sudden, shocking passing of its author in December. It is even more poignant now. While the book earned pre-release buzz over its revelation of an on-set affair with Harrison Ford,...
