The Miniver family -- father Clem (Walter Pidgeon), mother Kay (Greer Garson), eldest son Vincent 'Vin' (Richard Ney), and younger children Judy (Clare Sandars) and Toby (Christopher Severn) -- live an idyllic life in a quaint English village... until September 1939, when England is forced to declare war on Germany. Still life goes on even when the bombs start to hit, and the Minivers are forced to adapt in order to survive.

Mrs Miniver is based on a 1940 novel by English author Jan Struther. The novel was adapted for the film by a variety of writers, including Arthur Wimperis, George Froeschel, James Hildon, and Claudine West. The film won the 1943 Academy Award for Best Picture. It was followed by L'histoire des Miniver (1950).

    It's a 1936 Lagonda LG 45.

A German-savvy viewer reports that the soldier says, "Wir werden euch vernichten alle!", meaning "We will destroy all of you!"

After dropping off Vin at the airbase, Kay and Vin's wife Carol Beldon (Teresa Wright) head back home with their headlights off. With bombs dropping and bullets flying around them, Kay pulls off the road to wait out the deluge. Suddenly, the car is hit by several stray bullets, and Kay realizes that Carol has been shot. Kay races home and calls an ambulance, but Carol dies before the ambulance gets there. Devastated by his wife's death, Vin returns home. Her funeral, actually a mass funeral for many others who were killed in the attack, is held in a bombed-out church. After a stirring speech by the vicar in an attempt to explain that all who love freedom are the soldiers of this war, Vin joins Lady Beldon (May Whitty) and the congregation sings 'Onward Christian Soldiers' as fighter planes fly over the church.
