Coup de barre

This film had had mixed reactions on the critics at the time of its release. But Colpi Di Timone is not to be spit at. It's elegant comedy, tongue in cheek, and very beautifully laid out for the viewer. And today, it even looks more charming than it was back in the day it came out.

A man of sea, owner of a sailing boat company in a Genoa of the 1940s, hears from a doctor that he hasn't got much time to live, after he takes a hit in the chest on the boat. Knowing ha hasn't got anything left to lose, he decides to take out skeletons from the closet and let all his cunning enemies who were plotting against his company, have theirs. But he dares a little too much...

Gilberto Govi's first out of four Cinematic appearances is in my opinion his best, although he might look a bit at unease as he was used to the theater, having made over 70 plays in his career. But still, his mimicry, his expressions, his deep eyes, his tongue in cheek way of delivering every single joke give a neo-realistic edge to Colpi Di Timone.

Suitable English title for Colpi Di Timone would have been 'The Sea Lion Takes on the th Organisation'.
